Abstract

There is disclosed in one example a computing apparatus, including: a hardware platform including a processor and a memory; and instructions encoded within the memory to instruct the processor to: provide a data exchange layer (DXL) software interface, the DXL software interface to communicatively couple to an enterprise service bus (ESB) and to provide DXL messaging services via the ESB; communicatively couple to a DXL broker via the DXL software interface; via the DXL broker, subscribe to a DXL location services topic; receive via the DXL broker a location services query; and responsive the location services query, provide logical location data for one or more network devices.

Claims (35)

1. A computing apparatus, comprising:

a hardware platform comprising a processor and a memory; and

instructions encoded within the memory to instruct the processor to:

provide a data exchange layer (DXL) software interface, the DXL software interface to communicatively couple to an enterprise service bus (ESB) and to provide DXL messaging services via the ESB;

communicatively couple to a DXL broker via the DXL software interface;

via the DXL broker, subscribe to a DXL location services topic;

receive via the DXL broker a location services query; and

responsive the location services query, provide logical location data for one or more network devices.

2. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises reporting a geographic network scope.

3. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises reporting geographic locations and network locations according to a plurality of zones.

4. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises ensuring that a network location operation is complete.

5. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises reporting a network location or locations that a security appliance does not protect.

6. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises providing a location-dependent product configuration.

7. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises resolving a conflict of IP addresses.

8. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises providing network-based services according to geographical location.

9. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises providing network-based services according to a logical location.

10. The computing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein providing logical location data comprises providing a framework for products operating in a shared geographic location to form a collaboration.

11. One or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage media having stored thereon executable instructions to:

communicatively couple to an enterprise bus;

communicatively couple to a broker device via the enterprise bus, wherein communicatively coupling to the broker device comprises self-reporting information about a local host, and subscribing to one or more brokered topics, including a location services topic;

receiving via the location services topic a request for enterprise location services; and

responsive to the request, providing a logical location service for an enterprise.

12. The one or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein providing logical location data comprises reporting a geographic network scope.

13. The one or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein providing logical location data comprises reporting geographic locations and network locations according to a plurality of zones.

14. The one or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein providing logical location data comprises ensuring that a network location operation is complete.

15. The one or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein providing logical location data comprises reporting a network location or locations that a security appliance does not protect.

16. The one or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein providing logical location data comprises providing a location-dependent product configuration.

17. The one or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein providing logical location data comprises resolving a conflict of IP addresses.

18. The one or more tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein providing logical location data comprises providing a framework for products operating in a shared geographic location to form a collaboration.

19. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

establishing a brokered connection to an enterprise service bus (ESB), wherein the brokered connection comprises communicating with remote hosts via the ESB layered on top of a traditional transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) stack to enable communication via topics without reference to addresses of the remote hosts;

subscribing, via the brokered connection, to a location services topic;

receiving, via the brokered connection, a location services request having a header correlating the location services request to the location services topic; and

responsive to the location services request, providing for an enterprise a logical location service.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein providing logical location data comprises reporting a geographic network scope.
