Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods, apparatus, systems, computing devices, and computing entities for displaying content found in technical documentation for an item via an IETM viewer. In accordance with one embodiment, a method is provided comprising: providing a window for display via the IETM viewer, the window displaying the content found in the technical documentation; receiving a focus of a first portion of the content received based at least in part on the user performing a first action; and in response, causing the first portion to be conveyed using a first enhancing format; and thereafter: receiving a focus of a second portion of the content received based at least in part on the user performing a second action; and in response: causing the first portion to no longer be conveyed using the first enhancing format; and causing the second portion to be conveyed using a second enhancing format.

Claims (57)

1 . A method for displaying content found in technical documentation for an item via an interactive electronic technical manual system (IETM) configured to provide electronic and credentialed access to the technical documentation via an IETM viewer, the method comprising:

providing a sign-in window for display via the IETM viewer being executed on a user computing entity, wherein (a) a user provides, before being signed in and authenticated for access to the IETM, (i) input of a selection of a dataset corresponding to the technical documentation via the sign-in window, (ii) input of a selection of a unit displayed for a selectable unit field via the sign-in window, (iii) input of a selection of an object displayed for a selectable object field via the sign-in window, and (iv) input of a user credential comprising a username and a password via the sign-in window, and (b) a sign-in mechanism authenticates for access to the IETM and signs the user into the IETM using the user credential comprising the username and the password, the dataset, the selection of the unit displayed, and the selection of the object displayed that were provided by the sign-in window via one or more messages;

after authenticating and signing in the user into the IETM, providing a window for display via the IETM viewer, the window displaying the content found in the technical documentation;

receiving a focus of a first portion of the content, wherein the focus of the first portion of the content is received based at least in part on the user performing a first action via the IETM viewer;

responsive to receiving the focus of the first portion of the content, causing, via one or more processors, the first portion of the content to be conveyed using a first enhancing format; and

after causing the first portion of the content to be conveyed using the first enhancing format:

receiving a focus of a second portion of the content, wherein the focus of the second portion of the content is received based at least in part on the user performing a second action via the IETM viewer; and

responsive to receiving the focus of the second portion of the content:

causing, via the one or more processors, the first portion of the content to no longer be conveyed using the first enhancing format; and

causing, via the one or more processors, the second portion of the content to be conveyed using a second enhancing format.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first action comprises the user selecting the first portion of the content via the IETM viewer and the second action comprises the user selecting the second portion of the content via the IETM viewer.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the content comprises a plurality of sequential portions of the content and the second portion of the content immediately follows the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the content comprises a plurality of sequential portions of the content, the second portion of the content immediately follows the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content, the first action comprises the user indicating via the IETM viewer a completion of a portion of the content immediately before the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content, and the second action comprises the user indicating via the IETM viewer a completion of the first portion of the content.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the content and the second portion of the content comprise text and the first enhancing format and the second enhancing format comprise at least one of enlarging a font size of the text, changing a font color of the text, changing a font case of the text, adding a border around the text, adding a background to the text, or causing an audio reading of the text.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the content and the second portion of the content comprise media content and the first enhancing format and the second enhancing format comprise at least one of magnifying the media content or enhancing a resolution of the media content.

The method of claim 1 , wherein (i) the first portion of the content comprises text, (ii) the second portion of the content comprises media content, (iii) the first enhancing format comprises at least one of enlarging a font size of the text, changing a font color of the text, changing a font case of the text, adding a border around the text, adding a background to the text, or causing an audio reading of the text, and (iv) the second enhancing format comprises at least one of magnifying the media content or enhancing a resolution of the media content.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the content comprises a first type of content and the second portion of the content comprises a second type of content, and the method further comprising, prior to receiving the focus of the first portion of the content:

receiving from the user via the IETM viewer a first indication of the first enhancing format to use for the first type of content; and

receiving from the user via the IETM viewer a second indication of the second enhancing format to use for the second type of content.

A system for displaying content found in technical documentation for an item via an interactive electronic technical manual system (IETM) configured to provide electronic and credentialed access to the technical documentation via an IETM viewer, the system comprising at least one processor and at least one memory including a computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the system to:

provide a sign-in window for display via the IETM viewer being executed on a user computing entity, wherein (a) a user provides, before being signed in and authenticated for access to the IETM, (i) input of a selection of a dataset corresponding to the technical documentation via the sign-in window, (ii) input of a selection of a unit displayed for a selectable unit field via the sign-in window, (iii) input of a selection of an object displayed for a selectable object field via the sign-in window, and (iv) input of a user credential comprising a username and a password via the sign-in window, and (b) a sign-in mechanism authenticates for access to the IETM and signs the user into the IETM using the user credential comprising the username and the password, the dataset, the selection of the unit displayed, and the selection of the object displayed that were provided by the sign-in window via one or more messages;

after authenticating and signing in the user into the IETM, providing a window for display via the IETM viewer, the window displaying the content found in the technical documentation;

receive a focus of a first portion of the content, wherein the focus of the first portion of the content is received based at least in part on the user performing a first action via the IETM viewer;

responsive to receiving the focus of the second portion of the content, cause the first portion of the content to no longer be conveyed using the first enhancing format; and

after causing the first portion of the content to be conveyed using a first enhancing format:

receive a focus of a second portion of the content, wherein the focus of the second portion of the content is received based at least in part on the user performing a second action via the IETM viewer; and

responsive to receiving the focus of the second portion of the content:

cause the first portion of the content to no longer be conveyed using the first enhancing format; and

cause the second portion of the content to be conveyed using a second enhancing format.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the first action comprises the user selecting the first portion of the content via the IETM viewer and the second action comprises the user selecting the second portion of the content via the IETM viewer.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the content comprises a plurality of sequential portions of the content and the second portion of the content immediately follows the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content.

The system of claim 9 , wherein the content comprises a plurality of sequential portions of the content, the second portion of the content immediately follows the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content, the first action comprises the user indicating via the IETM viewer a completion of a portion of the content immediately before the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content, and the second action comprises the user indicating via the IETM viewer a completion of the first portion of the content.

The system of claim 9 , wherein the first portion of the content and the second portion of the content comprise text and the first enhancing format and the second enhancing format comprise at least one of enlarging a font size of the text, changing a font color of the text, changing a font case of the text, adding a border around the text, adding a background to the text, or causing an audio reading of the text.

14 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the first portion of the content and the second portion of the content comprise media content and the first enhancing format and the second enhancing format comprise at least one of magnifying the media content or enhancing a resolution of the media content.

The system of claim 9 , wherein (i) the first portion of the content comprises text, (ii) the second portion of the content comprises media content, (iii) the first enhancing format comprises at least one of enlarging a font size of the text, changing a font color of the text, changing a font case of the text, adding a border around the text, adding a background to the text, or causing an audio reading of the text, and (iv) the second enhancing format comprises at least one of magnifying the media content or enhancing a resolution of the media content.

The system of claim 9 , wherein the first portion of the content comprises a first type of content and the second portion of the content comprises a second type of content, and the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the system to, prior to receiving the focus of the first portion of the content:

receive from the user via the IETM viewer a first indication of the first enhancing format to use for the first type of content; and

receive from the user via the IETM viewer a second indication of the second enhancing format to use for the second type of content.

A non-transitory computer storage medium comprising instructions for displaying content found in technical documentation for an item via an interactive electronic technical manual system (IETM) configured to provide electronic and credentialed access to the technical documentation via an IETM viewer, the instructions being configured to cause one or more processors to at least perform operations configured to:

provide a sign-in window for display via the IETM viewer being executed on a user computing entity, wherein (a) a user provides, before being signed in and authenticated for access to the IETM, (i) input of a selection of a dataset corresponding to the technical documentation via the sign-in window, (ii) input of a selection of a unit displayed for a selectable unit field via the sign-in window, (iii) input of a selection of an object displayed for a selectable object field via the sign-in window, and (iv) input of a user credential comprising a username and a password via the sign-in window, and (b) a sign-in mechanism authenticates for access to the IETM and signs the user into the IETM using the user credential comprising the username and the password, the dataset, the selection of the unit displayed, and the selection of the object displayed that were provided by the sign-in window via one or more messages;

after authenticating and signing in the user into the IETM, providing a window for display via the IETM viewer, the window displaying the content found in the technical documentation;

receive a focus of a first portion of the content, wherein the focus of the first portion of the content is received based at least in part on the user performing a first action via the IETM viewer;

responsive to receiving the focus of the first portion of the content, cause the first portion of the content to be conveyed using a first enhancing format; and

after causing the first portion of the content to be conveyed using the first enhancing format:

receive a focus of a second portion of the content, wherein the focus of the second portion of the content is received based at least in part on the user performing a second action via the IETM viewer; and

responsive to receiving the focus of the second portion of the content:

cause the first portion of the content to no longer be conveyed using the first enhancing format; and

cause the second portion of the content to be conveyed using a second enhancing format.

18 . The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the first action comprises the user selecting the first portion of the content via the IETM viewer and the second action comprises the user selecting the second portion of the content via the IETM viewer.

19 . The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the content comprises a plurality of sequential portions of the content and the second portion of the content immediately follows the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content.

The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the content comprises a plurality of sequential portions of the content, the second portion of the content immediately follows the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content, the first action comprises the user indicating via the IETM viewer a completion of a portion of the content immediately before the first portion of the content in the plurality of sequential portions of the content, and the second action comprises the user indicating via the IETM viewer a completion of the first portion of the content.

The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the first portion of the content and the second portion of the content comprise text and the first enhancing format and the second enhancing format comprise at least one of enlarging a font size of the text, changing a font color of the text, changing a font case of the text, adding a border around the text, adding a background to the text, or causing an audio reading of the text.

The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the first portion of the content and the second portion of the content comprise media content and the first enhancing format and the second enhancing format comprise at least one of magnifying the media content or enhancing a resolution of the media content.

The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 17 , wherein (i) the first portion of the content comprises text, (ii) the second portion of the content comprises media content, (iii) the first enhancing format comprises at least one of enlarging a font size of the text, changing a font color of the text, changing a font case of the text, adding a border around the text, adding a background to the text, or causing an audio reading of the text, and (iv) the second enhancing format comprises at least one of magnifying the media content or enhancing a resolution of the media content.

24 . The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the first portion of the content comprises a first type of content and the second portion of the content comprises a second type of content, and the instructions are configured to cause the one or more processors to at least perform operations configured to, prior to receiving the focus of the first portion of the content:

receive from the user via the IETM viewer a first indication of the first enhancing format to use for the first type of content; and

receive from the user via the IETM viewer a second indication of the second enhancing format to use for the second type of content.
