Abstract

Methods, systems, and devices may assist in power saving in new radio. For example, enable power savings during the connected mode discontinuous reception cycle of the RRC_CONNECTED state of a user equipment.

Claims (49)

1. An apparatus that performs wireless communication, the apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled with the processor, the memory comprising executable instructions stored thereon that when executed by the processor cause the processor to effectuate operations comprising:

monitoring for a power savings signal in a monitoring occasion prior to an OnDuration of a discontinuous reception cycle on a first cell;

detecting the power savings signal in the monitoring occasion, wherein the apparatus is configured to monitor for physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle on condition that the power savings signal is not detected;

receiving an indication to sleep during active time of the discontinuous reception cycle; and

switching to a lower power state of operation until a next monitoring occasion of the power savings signal.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , the operations further comprising when the power savings signal comprises an indication to sleep, sleeping until a next monitoring period for the power savings signal.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

monitoring for the power savings signal in a first bandwidth part; and

switching to a second bandwidth part to monitor for the PDCCH transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the power savings signal is indicated through a downlink control signal.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the power savings signal is indicated through a downlink control signal, wherein the downlink control signal is configured in an apparatus-specific manner, wherein the apparatus is a user equipment.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the power savings signal is indicated through a downlink control signal, wherein the downlink control signal is configured in a multi-cast manner, received by multiple UEs.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the power savings signal is indicated through a downlink control signal, wherein the downlink control signal is identified through an identifier of microsleep-radio network temporary identification that is configured to the apparatus through radio resource control signaling.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

based on the power savings signal, determining whether to monitor a subsequent OnDuration, wherein the determining comprises:

when the power savings signal comprises an indication to wake-up, monitoring the subsequent OnDuration on the first cell,

when the power savings signal comprises an indication to sleep, not monitoring the subsequent OnDuration on the first cell; and

determining, based on a command received on the first cell, a behavior to activate, deactivate, wake-up, or sleep on a second cell monitored by the apparatus.

9. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the power savings signal is monitored on resources exclusively allocated through radio resource control signaling for the power savings signal.

10. A method for wireless communication, the method comprising:

monitoring for a power savings signal in a radio resource control-configured monitoring occasion prior to an OnDuration of a discontinuous reception cycle on a first cell;

determining whether the power savings signal is detected in the monitoring occasion;

on condition that the power savings signal is not detected in the monitoring occasion, monitoring for physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle;

on condition that the power savings signal is detected in the monitoring occasion and that the power savings signal comprises a wake-up indication, monitoring for the PDCCH transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle;

on condition that the power savings signal is detected in the monitoring occasion and that the power savings signal comprises a sleep indication, refraining from monitoring for the PDCCH transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle;

receiving an indication to sleep in active time of at least one discontinuous reception cycle; and

switching to a lower power state of operation until a next monitoring occasion of the power savings signal.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

monitoring for the power savings signal in a first bandwidth part; and

switching to a second bandwidth part to monitor for the PDCCH transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle.

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

determining, based on a command received on the first cell, a behavior to activate, deactivate, wake-up, or sleep on a second cell monitored by an apparatus.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the power savings signal is indicated through a downlink control signal, wherein the downlink control signal is configured in an apparatus-specific manner, wherein the apparatus is a user equipment.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the power savings signal is indicated through a downlink control signal, wherein the downlink control signal is configured in a multi-cast manner, received by multiple UEs.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the power savings signal is indicated through a downlink control signal, wherein the downlink control signal is identified through an identifier of microsleep-radio network temporary identification that is configured to an apparatus through the radio resource control signaling.

16. The method of claim 12 , wherein the power savings signal is monitored on resources exclusively allocated for the power savings signal.

17. A user equipment comprising a processor and memory, the processor and memory configured to:

monitor for a power savings signal in a monitoring occasion prior to an OnDuration of a discontinuous reception cycle;

determine whether the power savings signal is detected in the monitoring occasion;

on condition that the power savings signal is not detected in the monitoring occasion, monitor for physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle;

on condition that the power savings signal is detected in the monitoring occasion and that the power savings signal comprises a wake-up indication, monitor for the PDCCH transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle;

on condition that the power savings signal is detected in the monitoring occasion and that the power savings signal comprises a sleep indication, refrain from monitoring for the PDCCH transmissions during the OnDuration of the discontinuous reception cycle;

receive an indication to sleep during active time of at least one discontinuous reception cycle; and

switch to a lower power state of operation until a next monitoring occasion of the power savings signal.

18. The user equipment of claim 17 , wherein the indication to sleep is received while a discontinuous reception inactivity timer is running.

19. The user equipment of claim 17 , wherein the power savings signal corresponds to a downlink control channel message.

20. The user equipment of claim 17 , wherein the power savings signal corresponds to a downlink control channel message received in a common search space.
