Abstract

Example methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture for media metering are disclosed. An example apparatus disclosed herein includes at least one memory, instructions in the apparatus, and at least one processor installed in a media presentation device to execute the instructions to at least: cause a video decoder to generate video display rasterizing information, present the video display rasterizing information via an output device of the media presentation device, and in response to monitoring being enabled, generate metering information corresponding to media presented in association with the video display rasterizing information presented via the output device.

Claims (26)

1. An apparatus comprising:

at least one memory;

instructions; and

a processor to execute the instructions to, in response to monitoring being enabled, at least:

download an application to be executed by the processor; and

generate metering information by executing the application, the metering information based on (1) media sent to a headset and (2) media access commands received from a first communication interface of a portable meter at a second communication interface of a portable media presentation device, the portable meter comprising a metering information generator separate from the portable media presentation device, the portable meter to be communicatively coupled between the portable media presentation device and the headset, and the media received at an audio interface of the portable meter.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the portable meter is located in the headset and the processor is to execute the instructions to cause a speaker of the headset to emit audio based on the media received from the portable media presentation device.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor is to execute the instructions to generate the metering information by at least one of generating an audio signature based on the media or extracting a code from the media.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor is to execute the instructions to transmit the metering information to a personal computer via a wireless or wired communication medium.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the media access commands include at least one of a play command, a stop command, a pause command, a previous command, or a next command.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor is to execute the instructions to receive the media access commands when the media access commands are passed through the portable meter to the portable media presentation device from the headset.

7. An apparatus comprising:

at least one memory;

instructions; and

a processor to execute the instructions to at least:

retrieve a frame tag code from a frame of media, the frame tag code associated with a corresponding frame of the media presented by a portable media presentation device, the frame tag code including a frame tag code value that indicates a number of times the frame of the media has been presented via the portable media presentation device;

after the corresponding frame of the media has been presented, increment the frame tag code value when a playback-time of the media corresponds to a frame tag code time offset value; and

store the frame tag code, with the incremented frame tag code value, in the corresponding frame of the media.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the frame is at least one of an audio frame or a video frame.

9. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the processor is to execute the instructions to store the frame tag code in a data structure in association with identification information indicative of at least one of a user of the portable media presentation device, the portable media presentation device, or the media.

10. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the processor is to execute the instructions to:

retrieve a plurality of frame tag codes associated with the media; and

store the plurality of frame tag codes in a database.

11. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the processor is to execute the instructions to communicate the frame tag code to one of a personal computer or a data collection facility.

12. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the processor is to execute the instructions to store the frame tag code, including the incremented frame tag code value, in a database.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor is to execute the instructions to launch a metering information collection application to retrieve the metering information and communicate the metering information to a media metering entity.
