Apparel design system with allocation insights
A system allows a user to create new designs for apparel and preview these designs before manufacture. Software and lasers are used in finishing apparel to produce a desired wear pattern or other design. As the user designs the garment, the system provides the user insight in their design process.
1. A method comprising:
providing a garment previewing tool that allows previewing on a computer screen of a garment customized by a user with a finishing pattern;
initializing the garment previewing tool by creating a garment allocation file with default allocations for the garment,
wherein the garment allocation file comprises instructions readable on one or more garment manufacturing machines on how to implement at least a portion of finishes selected for the garment;
after initializing, determining, based at least in part on the default allocations, a first value for the garment customized by the user,
presenting on the garment preview tool a first preview on the computer screen the garment with the default allocations for the garment,
wherein the first value comprises an estimate for manufacturing value for the garment;
receiving first instructions to update the garment allocation file with a first allocation;
determining, based at least in part on the default allocations and the first allocation, a second value for the garment customized by the user;
presenting on the garment preview tool a second preview on the computer screen the garment with the first allocation for the garment; and
updating the garment allocation file with the first allocation,
wherein the garment allocation file with the first allocation comprises instructions readable on one or more garment manufacturing machines on how to implement the first allocation for the garment.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein the first preview is generated by a method comprising
generating an adjusted base image from a garment base image without a selected surface pattern of the default allocations,
generating a pattern mask based on a laser input file associated with the selected surface pattern,
for a pixel at a pixel location of the first preview, obtaining a first contribution by combining a first value associated with a pixel of the pattern mask at a pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first preview and a value of a pixel of the garment base image at a base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first preview,
for the pixel at the pixel location of the first preview, obtaining a second contribution by combining a second value associated with the pixel of the pattern mask at the pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second garment preview image and a value of a pixel of the adjusted base image at an adjusted base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first preview,
combining the first contribution and second contribution to obtain a combined value for the pixel at the pixel location of the first preview, and
displaying the pixel of the second garment preview image as a color on the computer screen, wherein the color of the pixel corresponds to the combined value.
3. The method of claim 1 wherein the second preview is generated by a method comprising
generating an adjusted base image from a garment base image without a selected surface pattern of the first allocation,
generating a pattern mask based on a laser input file associated with the selected surface pattern,
for a pixel at a pixel location of the second preview, obtaining a first contribution by combining a first value associated with a pixel of the pattern mask at a pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second preview and a value of a pixel of the garment base image at a base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second preview,
for the pixel at the pixel location of the second preview, obtaining a second contribution by combining a second value associated with the pixel of the pattern mask at the pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second preview and a value of a pixel of the adjusted base image at an adjusted base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second preview,
combining the first contribution and second contribution to obtain a combined value for the pixel at the pixel location of the second preview, and
displaying the pixel of the second preview as a color on the computer screen, wherein the color of the pixel corresponds to the combined value.
4. The method of claim 1 wherein the garment comprises a pair of jeans.
5. The method of claim 1 wherein the default allocations for the garment comprises at least one of at least one of a surface pattern, label, fastener, buckle, embellishment, embroidery, grommet, heat transfer pattern, lace, patch, printing, foil, ribbon, tab, foil, rivet, sequin, pocket, thread, or zipper.
6. The method of claim 1 wherein the default allocations for the garment comprises a first surface pattern, and the first allocation for the garment comprises a second surface pattern, different from the first surface pattern.
7. The method of claim 1 wherein the default allocations for the garment comprises a first surface pattern, the first allocation for the garment comprises a second surface pattern, and the second surface pattern comprises an edited version of the first surface pattern.
8. A method comprising:
providing a garment previewing tool that allows previewing on a computer screen of a garment base customized by a user with a finishing pattern created using a laser input file by a laser, wherein a garment preview image of the garment previewing tools is generated by a method comprising
generating an adjusted base image from a garment base image without a selected surface pattern,
generating a pattern mask based on a laser input file associated with the selected surface pattern,
for a pixel at a pixel location of the garment preview image, obtaining a first contribution by combining a first value associated with a pixel of the pattern mask at a pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the garment preview image and a value of a pixel of the garment base image at a base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the garment preview image,
for the pixel at the pixel location of the garment preview image, obtaining a second contribution by combining a second value associated with the pixel of the pattern mask at the pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second garment preview image and a value of a pixel of the adjusted base image at an adjusted base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the garment preview image,
combining the first contribution and second contribution to obtain a combined value for the pixel at the pixel location of the garment preview image, and
displaying the pixel of the garment preview image as a color on the computer screen, wherein the color of the pixel corresponds to the combined value;
after a garment feature is selected, allowing the user to modify a positioning of the selected garment feature relative to the garment base image, wherein as the user makes changes, the modified positioning of the garment feature is displayed to the user; and
determining a manufacturing value for a customized garment comprising the user's selected garment base, selected surface pattern, and selected garment feature.
9. The method of claim 8 wherein the customized garment comprises a pair of jeans.
10. The method of claim 8 wherein the customized garment comprises a tops garment.
11. The method of claim 8 wherein the selected garment feature is a first selected garment feature, and the user selects an additional garment feature from the menu of garment features as a second selected garment feature, and the method includes
after the second selected garment feature is added, updating the manufacturing value for the customized garment to reflect the user's selected garment base, selected surface pattern, first selected garment feature, and second selected garment feature.
12. The method of claim 8 wherein the selected garment feature is a first selected garment feature, and the user selects a different garment feature from the menu of garment features to use as a second selected garment feature, replacing the first selected garment feature, and the method includes
after the first selected garment feature is replaced, updating the manufacturing value for the customized garment to reflect the user's selected garment base, selected surface pattern, and second selected garment feature.
13. The method of claim 8 wherein the selected garment base is a first selected garment base, and the user selects a different garment base to use as a second selected garment base, replacing the first selected garment base, and the method includes
after the first selected garment base is replaced, updating the manufacturing value for the customized garment to reflect the user's second selected garment base, selected surface pattern, and selected garment feature.
14. A method comprising:
providing a garment previewing tool that allows previewing on a computer screen of a garment base customized by a user with a finishing pattern created using a laser input file by a laser, wherein the garment previewing tool includes
providing an option for the user to select the garment base and upon the user's selection, showing a first garment preview image on the computer screen comprising a garment base image for the selected garment base,
providing an option for the user to select a surface pattern from a menu of surface patterns,
after a surface pattern is selected, providing an option for the user to select a garment feature from a menu of garment features,
showing a second garment preview image on the computer screen comprising the selected surface pattern in combination with the garment base image and the garment feature, and the second garment preview image is generated by a method comprising
generating an adjusted base image from the garment base image without the selected surface pattern,
generating a pattern mask based on a laser input file associated with the selected surface pattern,
for a pixel at a pixel location of the second garment preview image, obtaining a first contribution by combining a first value associated with a pixel of the pattern mask at a pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second garment preview image and a value of a pixel of the garment base image at a base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second garment preview image,
for the pixel at the pixel location of the second garment preview image, obtaining a second contribution by combining a second value associated with the pixel of the pattern mask at the pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second garment preview image and a value of a pixel of the adjusted base image at an adjusted base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second garment preview image,
combining the first contribution and second contribution to obtain a combined value for the pixel at the pixel location of the second garment preview image, and
displaying the pixel of the second garment preview image as a color on the computer screen, wherein the color of the pixel corresponds to the combined value, and
after a garment feature is selected, allowing the user to modify a positioning of the selected garment feature relative to the garment base image, wherein as the user makes changes, the modified positioning of the garment feature is displayed to the user; and
determining a manufacturing value for a customized garment comprising the user's selected garment base, selected surface pattern, and selected garment feature.
15. The method of claim 14 wherein the customized garment comprises a pair of jeans.
16. The method of claim 14 wherein the customized garment comprises a tops garment.
17. The method of claim 14 wherein the selected garment feature is a first selected garment feature, and the user selects an additional garment feature from the menu of garment features as a second selected garment feature, and the method includes
after the second selected garment feature is added, updating the manufacturing value for the customized garment to reflect the user's selected garment base, selected surface pattern, first selected garment feature, and second selected garment feature.
18. The method of claim 14 wherein the selected garment feature is a first selected garment feature, and the user selects a different garment feature from the menu of garment features to use as a second selected garment feature, replacing the first selected garment feature, and the method includes
after the first selected garment feature is replaced, updating the manufacturing value for the customized garment to reflect the user's selected garment base, selected surface pattern, and second selected garment feature.
19. The method of claim 14 wherein the selected garment base is a first selected garment base, and the user selects a different garment base to use as a second selected garment base, replacing the first selected garment base, and the method includes
after the first selected garment base is replaced, updating the manufacturing value for the customized garment to reflect the user's second selected garment base, selected surface pattern, and selected garment feature.
20. The method of claim 14 wherein the second garment preview image comprises a photorealistic visualization of the garment design after a postlaser wash.
