Abstract

A wireless speaker audio system configured to receive audio information wirelessly transmitted by an audio source including first and second wireless transceivers. The first wireless transceiver establishes a bidirectional secondary wireless link with the audio source for receiving and acknowledging receipt of the audio information. The first and second wireless transceivers communicate with each other via a primary wireless link. A wireless audio system including an audio source and first and second wireless transceivers. The first and second wireless transceivers communicate via a primary wireless link. The audio source communicates audio information to the first wireless transceiver via a secondary wireless link which is configured according to a standard wireless protocol. The first wireless transceiver is configured to acknowledge successful reception of audio information via the secondary wireless link. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Claims (31)

1. A first wireless audio output device, comprising:

a transceiver configured to pair with a second wireless audio output device and communicate with the second wireless audio output device via a first wireless link and configured to communicate with an audio source via a second wireless link, wherein the transceiver receives, from the audio source via the second wireless link, a first audio packet; and

a controller configured to extract audio information from the first audio packet, the audio information comprising a first portion and a second portion, and transmit, to the second wireless audio output device via the first wireless link, the first portion of the audio information extracted from the first audio packet, without transmitting the second portion of the audio information.

2. The first wireless audio output device of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the audio information includes first stereo channel information and the second portion of the audio information includes second stereo channel information.

3. The first wireless audio output device of claim 1 , wherein the first wireless audio output device is configured to output audio using the second portion of the audio information and the second wireless audio output device is configured to output audio using the first portion of the audio information.

4. The first wireless audio output device of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the audio information is transmitted via the first wireless link in a second audio packet that is different from the first audio packet.

5. The first wireless audio output device of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to receive an acknowledgement that indicates the second wireless audio output device successfully received the first portion of the audio information.

6. The first wireless audio output device of claim 5 , wherein the controller buffers the second portion of the audio information until the acknowledgement is received.

7. The first wireless audio output device of claim 5 , wherein the controller is further configured to retransmit the first portion of the audio information when the acknowledgement is not received within a predetermined period of time.

8. The first wireless audio output device of claim 1 , wherein the second wireless link comprises one of a Bluetooth connection, a proprietary protocol connection, a peer-to-peer connection, or a WiFi connection.

9. The first wireless audio output device of claim 1 , wherein the first wireless audio output device comprises a first ear bud and the second wireless audio output device comprises a second ear bud.

10. A method performed by a first wireless audio output device, comprising:

pairing with a second wireless audio output device;

receiving, from an audio source via a first wireless link, a first audio packet;

extracting audio information from the first audio packet, the audio information comprising of a first portion and a second portion; and

transmitting, to the second wireless audio output device via a second wireless link, the first portion of the audio information extracted from the first audio packet, without transmitting the second portion of the audio information.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first portion of the audio information includes first stereo channel information and the second portion of the audio information includes second stereo channel information.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first wireless audio output device is configured to output audio using the second portion of the audio information and the second wireless audio output device is configured to output audio using the first audio channel information.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first portion of the audio information is transmitted via the second wireless link in a second audio packet that is different from the first audio packet.

14. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

receiving an acknowledgement that indicates the second wireless audio output device successfully received the first portion of the audio information.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

buffering the second portion of the audio information until the acknowledgement is received.

16. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

retransmitting the first portion of the audio information extracted from the first audio packet when the acknowledgement is not received within a predetermined period of time.

17. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first wireless audio output device comprises a first car bud and the second audio output device comprises a second ear bud.

18. A system, comprising:

a first wireless audio output device configured to receive, from an audio source via a first wireless link, a first audio packet and extract audio information from the first audio packet, the audio information comprising a first portion and a second portion; and

a second wireless audio output device configured to pair with the first wireless audio output device and receive, from the first wireless audio output device via a second wireless link, the first portion of the audio information extracted from the first audio packet, without transmitting the second portion of the audio information.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the first portion of the audio information comprises first stereo channel information and the second portion of the audio information comprises second stereo channel information and wherein the first wireless audio output device is configured to output audio using the first portion of the audio information and the second wireless audio output device is configured to output audio using the second portion of the audio channel information.

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the first wireless audio output device is further configured to receive an acknowledgement that indicates the second wireless audio output device successfully received the first portion of the audio information, buffer the second portion of the audio information until the acknowledgement is received and retransmit the first portion of the audio information extracted from the first audio packet when the acknowledgement is not received within a predetermined period of time.
