Abstract

A light source that includes an LED light source, and one or more encapsulants containing a light-absorbing component that absorbs light in the wavelength range of about 415 nm to about 455 nm and can include at least one phosphor that can provide an LED light source that emits white light having a reduced amount of blue light or even toxic blue light with minimal effect on color characteristics such as correlated color temperature (CCT), color gamut, and luminance.

Claims (17)

1 . An LED light source comprising:

an LED;

an encapsulant disposed upon the LED,

wherein the encapsulant comprises a light-absorbing component absorbing light from about 415 nm to about 455 nm, the light-absorbing component being dispersed within the encapsulant; and

at least a first phosphor that absorbs blue light and reemits yellow light, the phosphor being dispersed within the encapsulant, and

at least a second phosphor that absorbs blue light and reemits green light, the second phosphor being dispersed within the encapsulant.

2 . An LED light source according to claim 1 , wherein the first phosphor has a maximum emission at about 570 nm.

3 . An LED light source according to claim 1 , wherein the first phosphor has a maximum emission at about 556 nm.

4 . An LED light source according to claim 1 , wherein the light-absorbing component comprises a dye or a pigment.

5 . An LED light source according to claim 4 , wherein the light-absorbing component comprises a dye have an absorbance maximum of from about 425 to about 435 nm.

6 . An LED light source according to claim 4 , wherein the light-absorbing component comprises a dye have an absorbance maximum of from about 430 to about 435 nm.

7 . An LED light source according to claim 1 , wherein the light source shows a change in luminance no greater than 20% compared with the same LED light source without the light-absorbing component.

8 . An LED light source according to claim 1 , wherein the light source shows a change in luminance no greater than 10% compared with the same LED light source without the light-absorbing component.

9 . An LED light source according to claim 1 , wherein the light source shows a change in luminance of less than 20% compared with the same LED light source without the light-absorbing component.

10 . An LED light source according to claim 8 , wherein the light source shows a change in CCT of less than 3000K.

11 . An LED light source according to claim 8 , wherein the x chromaticity coordinate changes by less than 0.012 and they chromaticity coordinate changes from less than 0.015 compared with the same LED light source without the light-absorbing component.

12 . An LED light source according to claim 8 , wherein the x chromaticity coordinate changes by less than 0.0012 and they chromaticity coordinate changes from less than 0.015 compared with the same LED light source without the light-absorbing component.
