Adaptive mobile device gaming system
Embodiments disclosed herein concern mobile gaming environments. Portable electronic devices can be supported by the mobile gaming environments. The locations of the portable electronic device can influence how the portable electronic devices operate or what services or features are available to the portable electronic device or their users. According to one embodiment, a mobile gaming system can concern gaming/betting opportunities that can be secured using a portable electronic device even when an individual is located in a location where betting or games of chance are not permitted. According to another embodiment, a mobile gaming system can concern an application program operating on a portable electronic device that supports multiple modes of operation depending upon whether the portable electronic device is in a location where betting or games of chance are permitted.
1. A computer-implemented method for facilitating deferred betting, the method comprising:
causing presentment of a betting opportunity via a graphical user interface associated with a mobile electronic device, the betting opportunity pertaining to an available wager having characteristics that may change over time;
determining whether a user interaction with the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device indicates a desire to pursue the betting opportunity;
initiating recording in the betting opportunity for future execution for the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device, when it is determined that the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device desires to pursue the betting opportunity, the recording in the betting opportunity records an indication of the betting opportunity for the user but does not place a bet based on the betting opportunity;
subsequently determining whether the mobile electronic device is at a betting authorized location; and
placing a bet corresponding to the recorded betting opportunity for the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device if the determining determines that the mobile electronic device is at a betting authorized location.
2. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the betting opportunity pertains to sports betting.
3. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising deferring placing of the bet corresponding to the betting opportunity in a bet amount for the user if the determining determines that the mobile electronic device is not in a betting authorized location.
4. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising initiating locking in the betting opportunity for future execution for the user of the mobile electronic device is determined to be in a betting unauthorized location.
5. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising:
displaying a bet option fee for locking in a bet option to make a bet amount;
receiving, using the mobile electronic device, an acceptance of the bet option fee; and
initiating locking of the option to make the bet amount for the user.
6. A gaming system for facilitating deferred betting, comprising:
a game management system comprising a processor and memory, the memory storing program code including instructions, the game management system executing the instructions which cause the game management system to, at least:
cause presentment of a betting opportunity via a graphical user interface associated with a mobile electronic device, the betting opportunity pertaining to an available wager having characteristics that may change over time;
determine whether a user interaction with the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device indicates a desire to pursue the betting opportunity;
initiate recording in the betting opportunity for future execution for the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device, when it is determined that the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device desires to pursue the betting opportunity, the recording in the betting opportunity records an indication of the betting opportunity for the user but does not place a bet based on the betting opportunity;
produce betting information when performed on the mobile electronic device;
distributing at least a portion of the betting information from the betting opportunity to at least one remote device;
subsequently determine whether the mobile electronic device is at a betting authorized location; and
place a bet corresponding to the recorded betting opportunity for the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device if the determining determines that the mobile electronic device is at a betting authorized location.
7. The gaming system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the game controller is further operable to execute instructions which cause the game controller to allow non-betting play in which a user can accrue awards or other benefits if the determining determines that the mobile electronic device is at a betting unauthorized location.
8. The gaming system as recited in claim 7 , wherein the betting authorized location is within a gaming establishment.
9. The gaming system as recited in claim 7 , wherein the distributing of the at least a portion of the betting information comprises posting the at least a portion of the betting information to a social networking server.
10. The gaming system as recited in claim 7 , wherein the distributing of the at least a portion of the betting information comprises streaming the at least a portion of the betting information to the at least one remote device.
11. The gaming system as recited in claim 7 , wherein the distributing of the at least a portion of the betting information comprises transmitting the at least a portion of the betting information to a social networking server via one or more networks.
12. The gaming system as recited in claim 11 , wherein at least one social user accesses or receives some or all of the at least a portion of the same information from the social networking server, and wherein the at least one social user is a social network contact of the user that placed the bet.
13. The gaming system as recited in claim 7 , wherein the at least one remote device includes at least a computing device associated with a gaming establishment.
14. The gaming system as recited in claim 13 , wherein the at least one remote user device includes at least a personal computing device.
15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium including at least computer program code tangibly stored therein for facilitating deferred betting, the non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising: computer program code for causing presentment of a betting opportunity via a graphical user interface associated with a mobile electronic device, the betting opportunity pertaining to an available wager having characteristics that may change over time;
computer program code for determining whether a user interaction with the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device indicates a desire to pursue the betting opportunity;
computer program code for initiating recording in the betting opportunity for future execution for the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device, when it is determined that the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device desires to pursue the betting opportunity, the recording in the betting opportunity records an indication of the betting opportunity for the user but does not place a bet based on the betting opportunity;
computer program code for alerting the user that the bet corresponding to the recorded betting opportunity has been placed after the placing of the bet corresponding to the recorded betting opportunity;
computer program code for subsequently determining whether the mobile electronic device is at a betting authorized location; and
computer program code for placing a bet corresponding to the recorded betting opportunity for the user of the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device if the determining determines that the mobile electronic device is at a betting authorized location.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium including at least computer program code tangibly stored therein for facilitating deferred betting as recited in claim 15 , wherein the alerting initiates electronic transmission of a text message to the user via the mobile electronic device associated with the user.
17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium including at least computer program code tangibly stored therein for facilitating deferred betting as recited in claim 15 , wherein the determining whether the user interaction with the graphical user interface associated with the mobile electronic device indicates a desire to pursue the betting opportunity comprises:
displaying a fee amount for recording the betting opportunity for the user;
receiving, using the mobile electronic device, an acceptance of the fee amount; and
determining that the user interaction desires to pursue the betting opportunity after the acceptance of the fee amount has been received.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium including at least computer program code tangibly stored therein for facilitating deferred betting as recited in claim 15 , wherein the recorded betting opportunity is valid for a period of time, wherein the recorded betting opportunity expires after the period of time, wherein a bet corresponding to the recorded betting opportunity can no longer be placed if the recorded betting opportunity has expired.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium including at least computer program code tangibly stored therein for facilitating deferred betting as recited in claim 15 , the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprising determining whether the mobile electronic device is coupled or proximate to an electronic terminal in the betting authorized location via short range wireless technologies.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium including at least computer program code tangibly stored therein for facilitating deferred betting as recited in claim 15 , the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprising determining whether the mobile electronic device is physically coupled or proximate to an electronic terminal in the betting authorized location.
