Abstract

According to an aspect of an invention, a method for signaling reference pictures in video coding is disclosed. The method comprises: decoding a number of entries in a reference picture list syntax structure; decoding a number of reference index active minus one syntax in a slice header, if the number of entries is greater than one; and deriving an active variable by using the number of reference index active minus one syntax.

Claims (23)

1. A method of decoding information for a reference picture list structure, the method including:

decoding a delta picture order count syntax element in the reference picture list structure, wherein the delta picture order count syntax element specifies a value of a delta picture order count; and

decoding a short-term reference picture entry sign flag by using the delta picture order count,

wherein:

the short-term reference picture entry sign flag specifies whether an i-th entry in the reference picture list structure has a value greater than or equal to zero, and

the delta picture order count is set to a value of the delta picture order count syntax element according to a condition.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the short-term reference picture entry sign flag is decoded, in a case that the value of the delta picture order count is greater than zero.

3. The method of claim 1 , further including:

decoding a number syntax element specifying a number of reference picture list structure with a list index equal to i included in a sequence parameter set; and

decoding a picture list index in a case that a value of the number syntax element is greater than one,

wherein the picture list index specifies an index of the reference picture list structure with the list index equal to i that is used for derivation of an i-th reference picture list of a current picture.

4. A method of encoding information for a reference picture list structure, the method including:

encoding a delta picture order count syntax element in the reference picture list structure, wherein the delta picture order count syntax element specifies a value of a delta picture order count; and

encoding a short-term reference picture entry sign flag by using the delta picture order count,

wherein:

the short-term reference picture entry sign flag specifies whether an i-th entry in the reference picture list structure has a value greater than or equal to zero, and

the delta picture order count is set to a value of the delta picture order count syntax element according to a condition.

5. A device comprising one or more processors configured to:

decode a delta picture order count syntax element in the reference picture list structure, wherein the delta picture order count syntax element specifies a value of a delta picture order count; and

decode a short-term reference picture entry sign flag by using the delta picture order count,

wherein:

the short-term reference picture entry sign flag specifies whether an i-th entry in the reference picture list structure has a value greater than or equal to zero, and

the delta picture order count is set to a value of the delta picture order count syntax element according to a condition.
