Abstract

Provided in the present invention are user equipment and a method thereof, and a base station and a method thereof. The method in user equipment comprises: receiving, from a base station, a MAC control element (MAC CE) for deactivating a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) duplication; and deactivating the PDCP duplication based on the received MAC CE.

Claims (23)

1. A user equipment comprising:

receiving circuitry configured to receive a Medium Access Control (MAC) Control Element (CE), the MAC CE consisting of a plurality of fields, that are associated with respective radio link control (RLC) entities of a data radio bearer (DRB), and an identity of the DRB, each of the plurality of fields indicating whether a corresponding one of the RLC entities is activated or deactivated for packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) duplication, the PDCP duplication being a transmission method in which PDCP protocol data units (PDUs), which are same as each other, are transmitted by two or more RLC entities associated with different carriers, one of the two or more RLC entities belonging to a primary path, and remaining RLC entities of the two or more RLC entities belonging to respective one or more secondary paths; and

processing circuitry configured to indicate, in a case that the MAC CE indicates that one or more RLC entities of the DRB are activated for the PDCP duplication, to upper layers, the one or more RLC entities of the DRB which are activated for the PDCP duplication, wherein

when the PDCP duplication is activated for the DRB, the processing circuitry is further configured to cause a PDCP entity to transmit the PDCP PDUs to the primary path and the respective one or more secondary paths based on the MAC CE, and

when the PDCP duplication is deactivated for the DRB, the processing circuitry is further configured to cause the PDCP entity to transmit a PDCP PDU to the primary path.

2. A method performed by a user equipment comprising:

receiving a Medium Access Control (MAC) Control Element (CE), the MAC CE consisting of a plurality of fields, that are associated with respective radio link control (RLC) entities of a data radio bearer (DRB), and an identity of the DRB, each of the plurality of fields indicating whether a corresponding one of the RLC entities is activated or deactivated for packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) duplication, the PDCP duplication being a transmission method in which PDCP protocol data units (PDUs), which are same as each other, are transmitted by two or more RLC entities associated with different carriers, one of the two or more RLC entities belonging to a primary path, and remaining RLC entities of the two or more RLC entities belonging to respective one or more secondary paths;

indicating, in a case that the MAC CE indicates that one or more RLC entities of the DRB are activated for the PDCP duplication, to upper layers, the one or more RLC entities of the DRB which are activated for the PDCP duplication;

causing, when the PDCP duplication is activated for the DRB, a PDCP entity to transmit the PDCP PDUs to the primary path and the respective one or more secondary paths based on the MAC CE; and

causing, when the PDCP duplication is deactivated for the DRB, the PDCP entity to transmit a PDCP PDU to the primary path.

3. A base station comprising:

receiving circuitry;

processing circuitry configured to generate a Medium Access Control (MAC) Control Element (CE), the MAC CE consisting of a plurality of fields, that are associated with respective radio link control (RLC) entities of a data radio bearer (DRB), and an identity of the DRB, each of the plurality of fields indicating whether a corresponding one of the RLC entities is activated or deactivated for packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) duplication, the PDCP duplication being a transmission method in which PDCP protocol data units (PDUs), which are same as each other, are transmitted by two or more RLC entities associated with different carriers, one of the two or more RLC entities belonging to a primary path, and remaining RLC entities of the two or more RLC entities belonging to respective one or more secondary paths; and

transmitting circuitry configured to transmit the MAC CE to a user equipment, wherein

in a case that the MAC CE indicates that one or more RLC entities of the DRB are activated for the PDCP duplication, the MAC CE causes the user equipment to indicate, to upper layers of the user equipment, the one or more RLC entities of the DRB which are activated for the PDCP duplication,

when the PDCP duplication is activated for the DRB, the receiving circuitry is configured to receive the PDCP PDUs via the primary path and the respective one or more secondary paths, and

when the PDCP duplication is deactivated for the DRB, the receiving circuitry is further configured to receive a PDCP PDU via the primary path.

4. A method performed by a base station comprising:

generating a Medium Access Control (MAC) Control Element (CE), the MAC CE consisting of a plurality of fields associated with respective radio link control (RLC) entities of a data radio bearer (DRB), and an identity of the DRB, each of the plurality of fields indicating whether a corresponding one of the RLC entities is activated or deactivated for packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) duplication, the PDCP duplication being a transmission method in which PDCP protocol data units (PDUs), which are same as each other, are transmitted by two or more RLC entities associated with different carriers, one of the two or more RLC entities belonging to a primary path, and remaining RLC entities of the two or more RLC entities belonging to respective one or more secondary paths;

receiving, when the PDCP duplication is activated for the DRB, the PDCP PDUs via the primary path and the respective one or more secondary paths;

receiving, when the PDCP duplication is deactivated for the DRB, a PDCP PDU via the primary path; and

transmitting the MAC CE to a user equipment, wherein

in a case that the MAC CE indicates that one or more RLC entities of the DRB are activated for the PDCP duplication, the MAC CE causes the user equipment to indicate, to upper layers of the user equipment, the one or more RLC entities of the DRB which are activated for the PDCP duplication.
