Abstract

Apparatus and methods for deployment of fixtures. The apparatus may include a system for controlling deployed fixtures. The system may receive user commands different devices in different formats. The fixtures may be independently addressable. The fixtures may be magnetically supported by a fixture support. A brace may join two or more fixture supports without reducing space available to support fixtures. The brace may join a fixture support to a fixture support accessory. An accessory may include a variable-angle junction. The fixture may include articulating joints for controlling the direction of a beam. The fixture may include a lens having an electrically controllable beam spread angle. The fixture may be stowable in the fixture support. The fixture may be slidable along a cord to adjust a height of the fixture. The fixture may include an extendable ring. The system may coordinate motions of the fixtures to follow a target. The fixture may include an elongated board. The elongated board may include a non-polar power socket.

Claims (222)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a user command corresponding to a function of a fixture; and

a microprocessor configured to generate a fixture control message corresponding to the function;

wherein:

the user command:

is a first user command; and

conforms to a first fixture control protocol;

the receiver is configured to receive a second user command that:

corresponds to the function; and

conforms to a second fixture control protocol; and

the second fixture control protocol is different from the first fixture control protocol.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the microprocessor is further configured to transmit to a remote communication unit lighting layout information.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first or second user commands include a command to select, responsive to an ambient light spectrum, a hue of a light beam to be emitted from the fixture.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to register a spectrum of ambient light in which the fixture is disposed.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein the microprocessor is configured to select, responsive to the spectrum, a coordinated color temperature of a light beam to be emitted from the fixture.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a presence of a human in a space in which a fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the fixture based on a presence of the human.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a departure of a human from a space in which a fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the fixture based on the departure.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a power level of the fixture.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a coordinated color temperature (“CCT”) LEVEL of the fixture.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a vertical displacement of an LED of the fixture.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a horizontal displacement of an LED of the fixture.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a tilt angle of an LED of the fixture.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a pan angle of an LED of the fixture.

14. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a light beam spread angle.

15. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein:

the first user command is rendered in the first protocol; and

the microprocessor is configured to render the control message in a third protocol that is different from the first and second protocols.

16. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a fixture support;

wherein:

the fixture is a first fixture;

the fixture support supports the first fixture and several second fixtures; and

the microprocessor is configured to address the control message:

to the first fixture; and

not to any of the second fixtures.

17. An apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a user command corresponding to a function of a fixture; and

a microprocessor configured to generate a fixture control message corresponding to the function;

wherein:

the user command:

is a first user command; and,

in a first fixture control protocol, corresponds to the fixture function;

the fixture function, in a second fixture control protocol, is expressed as a second user command that is different from the first user command; and

the control message includes an instruction that corresponds to:

the first user command; and

the second user command.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the microprocessor is further configured to transmit to a remote communication unit lighting layout information.

19. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the first or second user commands include commands to select, responsive to an ambient light spectrum, a hue of a light beam to be emitted from the fixture.

20. The apparatus of claim 17 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to register a spectrum of ambient light in which the fixture is disposed.

21. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the microprocessor is configured to select, responsive to the spectrum, a coordinated color temperature of a light beam to be emitted from the fixture.

22. The apparatus of claim 17 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a presence of a human in a space in which a fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the fixture based on a presence of the human.

23. The apparatus of claim 17 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a departure of a human from a space in which a fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the fixture based on the departure.

24. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a power level of the fixture.

25. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a coordinated color temperature (“CCT”) LEVEL of the fixture.

26. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a vertical displacement of an LED of the fixture.

27. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a horizontal displacement of an LED of the fixture.

28. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a tilt angle of an LED of the fixture.

29. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a pan angle of an LED of the fixture.

30. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a light beam spread angle.

31. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein:

the first user command conforms to the first fixture control protocol;

the receiver is configured to receive the second user command that:

corresponds to the function; and

conforms to the second fixture control protocol; and

the second fixture control protocol is different from the first fixture control protocol.

32. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein:

the first user command is rendered in the first protocol; and

the microprocessor is configured to render the control message in a third protocol that is different from the first and second protocols.

33. The apparatus of claim 17 further comprising a fixture support;

wherein:

the fixture is a first fixture;

the fixture support supports the first fixture and several second fixtures; and

the microprocessor is configured to address the control message:

to the first fixture; and

not to any of the second fixtures.

34. An apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a user command corresponding to a function of a fixture; and

a microprocessor configured to generate a fixture control message corresponding to the function;

wherein the microprocessor is of several microprocessors that are configured, in aggregate, to:

receive the user command from an input channel of input channels, each corresponding to a different fixture control protocol; and

translate the user command into the control message.

35. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the several microprocessors are further configured to transmit to a remote communication unit lighting layout information.

36. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the user command includes commands to select, responsive to an ambient light spectrum, a hue of a light beam to be emitted from the fixture.

37. The apparatus of claim 34 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to register a spectrum of ambient light in which the fixture is disposed.

38. The apparatus of claim 37 wherein the several microprocessors are configured to select, responsive to the spectrum, a coordinated color temperature of a light beam to be emitted from the fixture.

39. The apparatus of claim 34 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a presence of a human in a space in which a fixture support is disposed;

wherein the several microprocessors are configured to change a parameter of the fixture based on a presence of the human.

40. The apparatus of claim 34 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a departure of a human from a space in which a fixture support is disposed;

wherein the several microprocessors are configured to change a parameter of the fixture based on the departure.

41. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a power level of the fixture.

42. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a coordinated color temperature (“CCT”) LEVEL of the fixture.

43. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a vertical displacement of an LED of the fixture.

44. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a horizontal displacement of an LED of the fixture.

45. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a tilt angle of an LED of the fixture.

46. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a pan angle of an LED of the fixture.

47. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a light beam spread angle.

48. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein:

the user command:

is a first user command; and

conforms to a first fixture control protocol;

the receiver is configured to receive a second user command that:

corresponds to the function; and

conforms to a second fixture control protocol; and

the second fixture control protocol is different from the first fixture control protocol.

49. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein:

the user command is rendered in a first protocol; and

the several microprocessors are configured to render the control message in a second protocol that is different from the first protocol.

50. The apparatus of claim 34 further comprising a fixture support;

wherein:

the fixture is a first fixture;

the fixture support supports the first fixture and several second fixtures; and

the several microprocessors are configured to address the message:

to the first fixture; and

not to any of the second fixtures.

51. An apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a user command corresponding to a function of a fixture; and

a microprocessor configured to generate a fixture control message corresponding to the function;

wherein:

the user command is rendered in a first protocol; and

the microprocessor is configured to render the control message in a second protocol that is different from the first protocol.

52. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the microprocessor is further configured to transmit to a remote communication unit lighting layout information.

53. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the user command includes commands to select, responsive to an ambient light spectrum, a hue of a light beam to be emitted from the fixture.

54. The apparatus of claim 51 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to register a spectrum of ambient light in which the fixture is disposed.

55. The apparatus of claim 54 wherein the microprocessor is configured to select, responsive to the spectrum, a coordinated color temperature of a light beam to be emitted from the fixture.

56. The apparatus of claim 51 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a presence of a human in a space in which a fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the fixture based on a presence of the human.

57. The apparatus of claim 51 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a departure of a human from a space in which a fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the fixture based on the departure.

58. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a power level of the fixture.

59. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a coordinated color temperature (“CCT”) LEVEL of the fixture.

60. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a vertical displacement of an LED of the fixture.

61. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a horizontal displacement of an LED of the fixture.

62. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a tilt angle of an LED of the fixture.

63. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a pan angle of an LED of the fixture.

64. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a light beam spread angle.

65. The apparatus of claim 51 wherein:

the user command:

is a first user command rendered in the first protocol; and

conforms to the second protocol;

the receiver is configured to receive a second user command, rendered in a third protocol, that:

corresponds to the function; and

conforms to a fourth protocol; and

the first, second, third, and fourth protocols are different.

66. The apparatus of claim 51 further comprising a fixture support: wherein;

the fixture is a first fixture;

the fixture support supports the first fixture and several second fixtures; and

the microprocessor is configured to address the control message:

to the first fixture; and

not to any of the second fixtures.

67. An apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a user command corresponding to a function of a fixture;

a microprocessor configured to generate a fixture control message corresponding to the function; and

a fixture support;

wherein:

the fixture is a first fixture;

the fixture support supports the first fixture and several second fixtures; and

the microprocessor is configured to address the message:

to the first fixture; and

not to any of the second fixtures.

68. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the microprocessor is further configured to transmit to a remote communication unit lighting layout information.

69. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the user command includes commands to select, responsive to an ambient light spectrum, a hue of a light beam to be emitted from the first fixture.

70. The apparatus of claim 67 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to register a spectrum of ambient light in which the first fixture is disposed.

71. The apparatus of claim 70 wherein the microprocessor is configured to select, responsive to the spectrum, a coordinated color temperature of a light beam to be emitted from the first fixture.

72. The apparatus of claim 67 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a presence of a human in a space in which the fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the first fixture based on a presence of the human.

73. The apparatus of claim 67 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a departure of a human from a space in which the fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the first fixture based on the departure.

74. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a power level of the first fixture.

75. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a coordinated color temperature (“CCT”) LEVEL of the first fixture.

76. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a vertical displacement of an LED of the first fixture.

77. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a horizontal displacement of an LED of the first fixture.

78. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a tilt angle of an LED of the first fixture.

79. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a pan angle of an LED of the first fixture.

80. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a light beam spread angle.

81. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein:

the user command:

is a first user command; and

conforms to a first fixture control protocol;

the receiver is configured to receive a second user command that:

corresponds to the function; and

conforms to a second fixture control protocol; and

the second fixture control protocol is different from the first fixture control protocol.

82. The apparatus of claim 67 wherein:

the user command is rendered in a first protocol; and

the microprocessor is configured to render the control message in a second protocol that is different from the first protocol.

83. An apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a user command corresponding to a function of a fixture;

a microprocessor configured to generate a fixture control message corresponding to the function; and

a fixture support;

wherein:

the fixture is of a first group of fixtures;

the fixture support supports a second group of fixtures; and

the microprocessor is configured to address the message only to first group.

84. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the microprocessor is further configured to transmit to a remote communication unit lighting layout information.

85. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the user command includes commands to select, responsive to an ambient light spectrum, a hue of a light beam to be emitted from the first group of fixtures.

86. The apparatus of claim 83 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to register a spectrum of ambient light in which the first group of fixtures are disposed.

87. The apparatus of claim 86 wherein the microprocessor is configured to select, responsive to the spectrum, a coordinated color temperature of a light beam to be emitted from the first group of fixtures.

88. The apparatus of claim 83 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a presence of a human in a space in which the fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the first group of fixtures based on a presence of the human.

89. The apparatus of claim 83 further comprising a photo sensor that is configured to detect a departure of a human from a space in which the fixture support is disposed;

wherein the microprocessor is configured to change a parameter of the first group of fixtures based on the departure.

90. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a power level of the first group of fixtures.

91. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a coordinated color temperature (“CCT”) LEVEL of the first group of fixtures.

92. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a vertical displacement of an LED of the first group of fixtures.

93. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a horizontal displacement of an LED of the first group of fixtures.

94. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a tilt angle of an LED of the first group of fixtures.

95. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a pan angle of an LED of the first group of fixtures.

96. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein the control message is configured to adjust a light beam spread angle.

97. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein:

the user command:

is a first user command; and

conforms to a first fixture control protocol;

the receiver is configured to receive a second user command that:

corresponds to the function; and

conforms to a second fixture control protocol; and

the second fixture control protocol is different from the first fixture control protocol.

98. The apparatus of claim 83 wherein:

the user command is rendered in a first protocol; and

the microprocessor is configured to render the control message in a second protocol that is different from the first protocol.
