Abstract

An extended wear electrocardiography patch is provided. An integrated flexible circuit includes a single piece of material and has an upper end and a lower end opposite the upper end. A mirror image of the upper end extends from at least a portion of one side of the upper end and folds over the upper end. One circuit trace is positioned on the upper end and one circuit trace is positioned on the lower end. Electrical pads are located on a contact surface of the upper end and on an outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end. An electrocardiographic electrode is positioned on the contact surface of the upper end and another electrocardiographic electrode is positioned on a contact surface of the lower end. A battery is directly adhered to the outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end.

Claims (49)

1. An extended wear electrocardiography patch, comprising:

an integrated flexible circuit comprised of a single piece of material, comprising:

an upper end and a lower end opposite the upper end, wherein the upper end is wider than the lower end;

a mirror image of the upper end comprising a same shape and size of the upper end that is wider than the lower end and extending from at least a portion of one side of the upper end, wherein the mirror image folds over the upper end;

a pair of circuit traces, one circuit trace on the upper end and one circuit trace on the lower end; and

a plurality of electrical pads, wherein a portion of the electrical pads are located on a contact surface of the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit and a different portion of the electrical pads are located on an outward facing surface of the mirror image positioned over the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit;

a pair of electrocardiographic electrodes, one of the electrocardiographic electrodes positioned on the contact surface of the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit and the other electrocardiographic electrode positioned on a contact surface of the lower end of the integrated flexible circuit; and

a battery directly adhered to the outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end.

2. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 1 , further comprising:

an adhesive layer positioned on the contact surfaces of the upper and lower ends of the integrated flexible circuit.

3. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 2 , further comprising:

an electrode seal comprising double-sided adhesive to connect the adhesive layer and the integrated flexible circuit.

4. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 1 , wherein the battery is one of soldered to the outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end and affixed to the outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end via a clip.

5. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a stiffener positioned between the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit and the mirror image of the upper end.

6. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 1 , wherein the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit and the mirror image of the upper end are laminated together.

7. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a physiology sensor positioned on the integrated flexible circuit and comprising one of an SpO 2 sensor, blood pressure sensor, temperature sensor, respiratory rate sensor, glucose sensor, airflow sensor, and volumetric pressure sensor.

8. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 1 , wherein the integrated flexible circuit is constructed from polyester substrate and silver ink.

9. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 8 , wherein the silver ink is applied to the polyester substrate via one of screen printing, pad printing, and flexography.

10. An extended wear electrocardiography patch according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one of:

a liner layer on a contact surface of the integrated flexible circuit; and

hydrogel covering the electrodes.

11. An extended wear electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor, comprising:

a patch comprising:

an integrated flexible circuit comprised of a single piece of material, comprising:

an upper end and a lower end opposite the upper end, wherein the upper end is wider than the lower end;

a mirror image of the upper end comprising a same shape and size of the upper end that is wider than the lower end and extending from at least a portion of one side of the upper end, wherein the mirror image folds over the upper end;

a pair of circuit traces, one circuit trace on the upper end and one circuit trace on the lower end; and

a plurality of electrical pads, wherein a portion of the electrical pads are located on a contact surface of the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit and a different portion of the electrical pads are located on an outward facing surface of the mirror image positioned over the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit;

a pair of electrocardiographic electrodes, one of the electrocardiographic electrodes positioned on the contact surface of the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit and the other electrocardiographic electrode positioned on a contact surface of the lower end of the integrated flexible circuit;

a non-conductive receptacle positioned on the outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end; and

a battery directly adhered to the outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end; and

an electrocardiography monitor having a sealed housing adapted to be removably secured into the non-conductive receptacle.

12. An extended wear electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor according to claim 11 , further comprising:

an adhesive layer positioned on the contact surfaces of the upper and lower ends of the integrated flexible circuit.

13. An extended wear electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor according to claim 12 , further comprising:

an electrode seal comprising double-sided adhesive to connect the adhesive layer and the integrated flexible circuit.

14. An extended wear electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor according to claim 11 , wherein the battery is one of soldered to the outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end and affixed to the outward facing surface of the mirror image of the upper end via a clip.

15. An extended wear electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor according to claim 11 , further comprising:

a stiffener positioned between the upper end of the integrated flexible circuit and the mirror image of the upper end.
