Abstract

A water reservoir configured to be removably connected to a respiratory pressure therapy (RPT) device has a water reservoir base configured to hold a volume of water to be used for humidification of the breathable air, a water reservoir lid connected to the water reservoir base, a retainer configured to engage with a corresponding portion of a water reservoir dock associated with the RPT device, thus securing the water reservoir to the water reservoir dock, and a portion of the lid being configured to receive a downward force to cause movement of the retainer against the bias of a spring, thus allowing removal of the water reservoir from the water reservoir dock.

Claims (31)

1. A water reservoir for use with a respiratory pressure therapy (RPT) device for pressurising breathable air to treat a respiratory disorder in a patient, the water reservoir comprising:

a water reservoir base configured to hold a volume of water to be used for humidification of the breathable air;

a water reservoir lid connected to the water reservoir base, the water reservoir lid including a retainer configured to engage with a corresponding portion of a water reservoir dock associated with the RPT device, thus securing the water reservoir to the water reservoir dock, the water reservoir having a spring, at least a portion of the water reservoir lid with the retainer being movable relative to the water reservoir base against the bias of the spring; and

a handle portion configured to receive a downward force applied by the patient to 1) cause relative movement between the portion of the water reservoir lid and the water reservoir base and 2) disengage the retainer against the bias of the spring, thus allowing removal of the water reservoir from the water reservoir dock.

2. The water reservoir of claim 1 , wherein the spring is in the form of a cantilevered member with a proximate end and a free end, the spring being deflected when the downward force is applied and returning to a less deflected state when the downward force is released.

3. The water reservoir of claim 1 , wherein the water reservoir lid comprises two parts that are assembled with the spring therebetween.

4. The water reservoir of claim 1 , wherein the spring is positioned within the water reservoir lid, and not between the water reservoir base and the water reservoir lid.

5. The water reservoir of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the water reservoir lid is movable against a spring force of the spring when at least partly inserting the water reservoir into the water reservoir dock, the spring being deflectable in a range of about 1 mm to about 5 mm.

6. The water reservoir of claim 1 , wherein the spring does not seal between the water reservoir base and the water reservoir lid.

7. The water reservoir of claim 1 ,

wherein the handle portion includes a reservoir lid handling portion on the water reservoir lid and a reservoir base handling portion,

wherein the reservoir lid handling portion and/or the reservoir base handling portion includes a grip,

further comprising a latch to secure the water reservoir lid and the water reservoir base, the reservoir lid handling portion being positioned above the latch and the reservoir base handing portion being positioned below the latch,

wherein the water reservoir lid and the water reservoir base are connected via a pair of joints positioned proximate an insertion end of the water reservoir, the reservoir lid handling portion and reservoir base handling portion being positioned on the water reservoir at a graspable end that is opposite to the insertion end, the pair of joints allowing a portion of the water reservoir lid proximate the graspable end to swing open when the latch is open,

wherein the spring is in the form of a cantilevered member with a proximate end and a free end, the spring being deflected when the force is applied and returning to a less deflected state when the downward force is released, and

wherein the retainer is positioned on the water reservoir lid and sized and positioned to be received within the water reservoir dock when the water reservoir is secured to the water reservoir dock.

8. The water reservoir of claim 7 , wherein the water reservoir lid comprises two parts that are assembled with the spring therebetween.

9. The water reservoir of claim 7 , wherein the spring is positioned within the water reservoir lid, and not between the water reservoir base and the water reservoir lid.

10. The water reservoir of claim 7 , wherein the portion of the water reservoir lid is movable against a spring force of the spring when at least partly inserting the water reservoir into the water reservoir dock, the spring being deflectable in a range of about 1 mm to about 5 mm.

11. The water reservoir of claim 10 , wherein the spring does not seal between the water reservoir base and the water reservoir lid.

12. The water reservoir of claim 11 , further comprising a seal between the water reservoir lid and the water reservoir base.

13. The water reservoir of claim 10 , wherein the spring is in the form of a seal between the water reservoir lid and the water reservoir base.

14. The water reservoir of claim 7 , wherein the spring does not seal between the water reservoir base and the water reservoir lid.

15. The water reservoir of claim 7 , further comprising a seal between the water reservoir lid and the water reservoir base.

16. The water reservoir of claim 7 , wherein the spring is in the form of a seal between the water reservoir lid and the water reservoir base.

17. An RPT device including:

a blower to generate a flow of the pressurized breathable air;

the water reservoir dock, the water reservoir dock including a heater plate; and

the water reservoir of claim 1 , wherein the water reservoir includes a conductor plate that engages with the heater plate, and the water reservoir includes at least one horizontal rail configured to slide in a horizontal direction to engage the water reservoir with the water reservoir dock,

the water reservoir being movable along the at least one horizontal rail between a connected position and a removed position, the water reservoir being operatively connected to the water reservoir dock in the connected position in which the retainer is secured with the corresponding portion of the water reservoir dock,

wherein to move the water reservoir from the connected position to the removed position, at least the portion of the water reservoir lid is pressed downwards towards and relative to the water reservoir base, against the bias of the spring, to disengage the retainer from the corresponding portion, and the water reservoir is removable from the water reservoir dock by sliding on the at least one horizontal rail.
