Abstract

Systems and methods for a six-primary color system for display. A six-primary color system increases the number of primary colors available in a color system and color system equipment. Increasing the number of primary colors reduces metameric errors from viewer to viewer. The six-primary color system includes Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta primaries. The systems of the present invention maintain compatibility with existing color systems and equipment and provide systems for backwards compatibility with older color systems.

Claims (44)

1. A system for displaying a multi-primary color system, comprising:

an imager camera system, wherein the imager camera system includes a Bayer pattern optical filter;

a set of image data, wherein the set of image data is generated using the imager camera system;

an image data converter; and

at least one display device;

wherein the at least one display device and the image data converter are in network communication;

wherein a magenta primary value is calculated by a serial data decoder; and

wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the set of image data for display on the at least one display device, thereby creating a set of converted image data.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the Bayer pattern optical filter includes at least one cyan primary filter and at least one yellow primary filter.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the Bayer pattern optical filter includes at least one cyan primary filter, at least one yellow primary filter, and at least one magenta primary filter.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the set of image data includes a bit level, wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the bit level of the set of image data, thereby creating an updated bit level.

5. The system of claim 1 , further including a set of Session Description Protocol (SDP) parameters, wherein the set of SDP parameters is modified based on the set of converted image data.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one display device is operable to display the multi-primary color system based on the set of image data.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the image data converter includes a digital interface, wherein the digital interface is operable to encode and decode the set of image data.

8. The system of claim 1 , further including at least one transfer function (TF) for processing the set of image data.

9. The system of claim 1 , further including at least one electronic luminance component, wherein the at least one electronic luminance component is not calculated within the at least one display device.

10. A system for displaying a multi-primary color system, comprising:

an imager camera system, wherein the imager camera system includes a Bayer pattern optical filter;

a set of image data, wherein the set of image data is generated using the imager camera system;

an image data converter;

a set of Session Description Protocol (SDP) parameters, wherein the set of SDP parameters is modifiable; and

at least one display device;

wherein the at least one display device and the image data converter are in network communication;

wherein a magenta primary value is calculated by a serial data decoder; and

wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the set of image data for display on the at least one display device.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the Bayer pattern optical filter includes at least one cyan primary filter and at least one yellow primary filter.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the Bayer pattern optical filter includes at least one cyan primary filter, at least one yellow primary filter, and at least one magenta primary filter.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the set of SDP parameters includes mapping data for the set of image data and/or a flag indicator.

14. The system of claim 10 , further including at least one electronic luminance component, wherein the at least one electronic luminance component is not calculated within the at least one display device.

15. A system for displaying a multi-primary color system, comprising:

an imager camera system, wherein the imager camera system includes a Bayer pattern optical filter;

a set of image data, wherein the set of image data is generated using the imager camera system;

an image data converter;

at least one transfer function (TF) for processing the set of image data;

a set of Session Description Protocol (SDP) parameters, wherein the SDP parameters are modifiable; and

at least one display device;

wherein the at least one display device and the image data converter are in network communication;

wherein a magenta primary value is calculated by a serial data decoder; and

wherein the image data converter is operable to convert the set of image data for display on the at least one display device.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the Bayer pattern optical filter includes a cyan primary filter and a yellow primary filter.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the Bayer pattern optical filter includes a cyan primary filter, a yellow primary filter, and a magenta primary filter.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the set of SDP parameters is modified to indicate that the set of image data displayed on the at least one display device is using the multi-primary color system.

19. The system of claim 15 , wherein the set of image data defines a minimum color luminance and a maximum color luminance.

20. The system of claim 15 , further including at least one electronic luminance component, wherein the at least one electronic luminance component is not calculated within the at least one display device.
