Abstract

A group-based communication platform is configured to initialize processing actions executable via validated external resources. Moreover, the group-based communication platform may recommend specific processing actions to a user based at least in part on the user's activity in interacting with the group-based communication platform (e.g., via a client device), wherein such activity may be represented as environmental contextual data. Moreover, once the user selects a particular processing action for execution, the group-based communication retrieves at least a portion of the generated environmental contextual data to be passed to the validated external resource for use in executing the selected processing action.

Claims (65)

1. A method, implemented at least in part by a server computing device associated with a communication platform, the method comprising:

receiving, from a client associated with a user via a communication interface corresponding to an application associated with the communication platform, a user input requesting an initiation of a potential action;

identifying, based at least in part on the user input, a communication channel associated with one or more interactions of the user;

identifying a plurality of interactions associated with a plurality of users corresponding to the communication channel;

determining that at least one other user of the plurality of users previously requested performance of the potential action in association with the communication channel;

identifying, based at least in part on the at least one other user of the plurality of users previously requesting the performance of the potential action, the potential action to be performed by an external resource; and

causing the client to generate an interface element comprising the potential action for presentation via the communication interface.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, from the client via the interface element, an indication of selection of the potential action; and

sending, to a computing device associated with the external resource, an instruction to perform the potential action.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a plurality of potential actions that are available to the client; and

determining that the potential action is associated with the one or more interactions,

wherein the potential action is identified based at least in part on an association between the potential action and the one or more interactions.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more interactions are associated with a first connection session, the method further comprising:

identifying one or more second interactions associated with a second connection session, the second connection session being prior to the first connection session,

wherein the potential action is identified based at least in part on the one or more second interactions.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the one or more interactions are associated with a group identifier, and

the potential action is determined based at least in part on the group identifier.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user input to initiate the potential action comprises requesting the communication platform to display the potential action via the communication interface.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more interactions are received at one or more previous times.

8. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer readable media storing instructions that, when executed, cause the system to:

receiving, from a client associated with a user via a communication interface corresponding to an application associated with a communication platform, a user input requesting an initiation of a potential action;

identifying, based at least in part on the user input, a communication channel associated with one or more interactions of the user;

identifying a plurality of interactions associated with a plurality of users corresponding to the communication channel;

determining that at least one other user of the plurality of users previously requested performance of the potential action in association with the communication channel;

identifying, based at least in part on the at least one other user of the plurality of users previously requesting the performance of the potential action, the potential action to be performed by an external resource; and

causing the client to generate an interface element comprising the potential action for presentation via the communication interface.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions further cause the system to:

receive, from the client via the interface element, an indication of selection of the potential action; and

send, to a computing device associated with the external resource, an instruction to perform the potential action.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions further cause the system to:

identify a plurality of potential actions that are available to the client; and

determine that the potential action is associated with the one or more interactions,

wherein the potential action is identified based at least in part on an association between the potential action and the one or more interactions.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more interactions are associated with a first connection session, and wherein the instructions further cause the system to:

identify one or more second interactions associated with a second connection session, the second connection session being prior to the first connection session,

wherein the potential action is identified based at least in part on the one or more second interactions.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the user input to initiate the potential action comprises requesting the communication platform to display the potential action via the communication interface.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more interactions are received at one or more previous times.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein:

the one or more interactions are associated with a group identifier, and

the potential action is determined based at least in part on the group identifier.

15. One or more non-transitory computer readable media storing instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to:

receiving, from a client associated with a user via a communication interface corresponding to an application associated with a communication platform, a user input requesting an initiation of a potential action;

identifying, based at least in part on the user input, a communication channel associated with one or more interactions of the user;

identifying a plurality of interactions associated with a plurality of users corresponding to the communication channel;

determining that at least one other user of the plurality of users previously requested performance of the potential action in association with the communication channel;

identifying, based at least in part on the at least one other user of the plurality of users previously requesting the performance of the potential action, the potential action to be performed by an external resource; and

causing the client to generate an interface element comprising the potential action for presentation via the communication interface.

16. The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

receive, from the client via communication interface, an indication of selection of the potential action; and

send, to a computing device associated with the external resource, an instruction to perform the potential action.

17. The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

identify a plurality of potential actions that are available to the client; and

determine that the potential action is associated with the one or more interactions,

wherein the potential action is identified based at least in part on an association between the potential action and the one or more interactions.

18. The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the one or more interactions are associated with a first connection session, and wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

identify one or more second interactions associated with a second connection session, the second connection session being prior to the first connection session,

wherein the potential action is identified based at least in part on the one or more second interactions.

19. The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the user input to initiate the potential action comprises requesting the communication platform to display the potential action via the communication interface.

20. The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the one or more interactions are received at one or more previous times.
