Abstract

Active-active standby is maintained for communication sessions using session initiation protocol (SIP) processes between two active session zones in a first datacenter and a standby session zone in a second datacenter. In the event of a failure at a first active session zone at the first datacenter, a failover to the second active session zone at the first datacenter is performed such that there are no interruptions in the active sessions. In the event of a failure at both active session zones at the first datacenter, a failover to the second datacenter is performed.

Claims (54)

1. A system comprising:

a first session border controller (SBC) associated with a datacenter that is configured to route real-time telephony traffic associated with a first active session zone and a second active session zone;

a second SBC associated with the datacenter, wherein the second SBC is a standby SBC configured to route the real-time telephony traffic associated with the first active session zone and the second active session zone without interruption during a failure event at the first SBC;

a first and second load balancer associated with the first active session zone at the datacenter;

a third and fourth load balancer associated with the second active session zone at the datacenter, wherein the second load balancer and the fourth load balancer are standby load balancers; and

a cache controller configured to failover from the first active session zone to the second active session zone during a failure event at the first active session zone.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cache controller is configured to transmit a message to the first SBC or the second SBC to route the real-time telephony traffic associated with the first active session zone to the second active session zone during the failure event at the first active session zone.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the cache controller is configured to transmit the message to the first SBC or the second SBC via the third load balancer or the fourth load balancer.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first load balancer is configured to failover to the second load balancer during a failure event at the first load balancer.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the third load balancer is configured to failover to the fourth load balancer during a failure event at the third load balancer.

6. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a first cache comprising first data associated with the first active session zone; and

a second cache comprising second data associated with the second active session zone,

wherein the cache controller is configured to synchronize the first cache and the second cache such that the second data is saved to the first cache and the first data is saved to the second cache.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cache controller is configured to detect a failure at the first load balancer.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cache controller is configured to detect a failure at the second load balancer.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first active session zone includes call switches.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein a portion of the call switches include at least one standby call switch, and wherein the call switches are configured to failover to the at least one call switch during a failure event at a call switch of the call switches.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second active session zone includes call switches.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein a portion of the call switches include at least one standby call switch, and wherein the call switches are configured to failover to the at least one call switch during a failure event at a call switch of the call switches.

13. A method comprising:

detecting a failure event at a first active session zone of a first datacenter;

determining that the failure event occurred at a load balancer of the first active session zone; and

performing a failover of one or more sessions of the first active session zone,

wherein the failover is to a standby load balancer on a condition that the standby load balancer is available, and

wherein the failover is to a second active session zone of the first datacenter on a condition that the standby load balancer is not available.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone is to the second active session zone, the method further comprising:

detecting a failure event at the second active session zone, wherein the second active session zone includes one or more sessions; and

performing, based on the detected failure event at the second active session zone, a second failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone and the one or more sessions of the second active session zone to a second datacenter.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone is to the standby load balancer, the method further comprising:

detecting a second failure event at the standby load balancer; and

performing a second failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone,

wherein the second failover is to a second standby load balancer of the first active session zone on a condition that the second standby load balancer is available, and

wherein the second failover is to the second active session zone on a condition that the second standby load balancer is not available.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the second failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone is to the second active session zone, the method further comprising:

detecting a third failure event at the second active session zone, wherein the second active session zone includes one or more sessions; and

performing, based on the detected third failure event at the second active session zone, a third failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone and the one or more sessions of the second active session zone to a second datacenter.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to:

detect a failure event at a first active session zone of a first datacenter;

determine that the failure event occurred at a call switch of the first active session zone; and

perform a failover of one or more sessions of the first active session zone,

wherein the failover is to a standby call switch on a condition that the standby call switch is available, and

wherein the failover is to a second active session zone of the first datacenter on a condition that the standby call switch is not available.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone is to the second active session zone, the processor configured to:

detect a failure event at the second active session zone, wherein the second active session zone includes one or more sessions; and

perform, based on the detected failure event at the second active session zone, a second failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone and the one or more sessions of the second active session zone to a second datacenter.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone is to the standby call switch, the processor configured to:

detect a second failure event at the standby call switch; and

perform a second failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone,

wherein the second failover is to a second standby call switch of the first active session zone on a condition that the second standby call switch is available, and

wherein the second failover is to the second active session zone on a condition that the second standby call switch is not available.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the second failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone is to the second active session zone, the processor configured to:

detect a third failure event at the second active session zone, wherein the second active session zone includes one or more sessions; and

perform, based on the detected third failure event at the second active session zone, a third failover of the one or more sessions of the first active session zone and the one or more sessions of the second active session zone to a second datacenter.
