Abstract

Systems and methods for facilitating communication between users of a collaboration service on a private network are presented. A first server is configured to host the collaboration service. A first client device corresponds to a registered user of the collaboration service. The first client device is in direct communication with the first server to use the collaboration service. An application portal instance is configured and deployed by a second server. The application portal instance is configured to directly connect to the first server. The application portal instance provides an indirect connection to the first server. The indirect connection is hidden from users of the system. A second client device corresponds to a non-registered user of the collaboration service. The second client device connects directly to the application portal instance. The first client device and the second client device communicate over the private network using the collaboration service.

Claims (63)

1. A method for facilitating communication between users of a collaboration service on a private network, comprising:

receiving a request from a first client device to communicate with a second client device, the first client device corresponding to a registered user of the collaboration service, the second client device corresponding to a non-registered user of the collaboration service;

establishing a direct connection with the first client device, the direct connection enabling the first client device to use the collaboration service;

configuring and deploying a single-use application portal instance, the single-use application portal instance providing an indirect connection to use the collaboration service, wherein the single-use application portal instance is configured based on credentials associated with the non-registered user; and

providing a hyperlink to the second client device, the hyperlink being used by the second client device to connect to the single-use application portal instance using a web browser;

wherein:

the second client device, in response to selection of the hyperlink, automatically connects to the single-use application portal instance via a web browser being executed on the second client device;

the first client device and the second client device communicate over the private network using the collaboration service;

when the single-use application portal instance detects that the web browser has been closed by the second client device, the single-use application portal instance is deleted wherein the second client device can not send data to the application portal instance or receive data from the single-use application portal instance.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating a hyperlink corresponding to the single-use application portal instance, wherein upon activation of the hyperlink, the second client device is configured to connect to the single-use application portal instance and communicate over the private network.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the single-use application portal instance is provisioned ad hoc upon receipt of a message indicating that the first client device wishes to communicate with the second client device, and wherein the single-use application portal instance is provisioned prior to deploying.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the single-use application portal instance is selected from a set of pre-configured application portal instances, and wherein the application portal instance is selected prior to deploying.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

terminating communication between the first client device and the second client device; and

deleting the single-use application portal instance such that the second client device can not send data to the application portal instance or receive data from the single-use application portal instance.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the collaboration service provides any one or more of the features from the group comprising: video conferencing; voice group conferencing; person-to-person telephony; group text chat rooms; person-to-person text chat; file sharing in either direction; sender-controlled email that can be read and replied to; and virtual desktop infrastructure.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second client device communicates over the private network without a native version of the collaboration service installed.

8. A system for facilitating communication between users of a collaboration service on a private network, comprising:

a first server configured to host the collaboration service;

a first client device corresponding to a registered user of the collaboration service, the first client device in direct communication with the first server to use the collaboration service;

a single-use application portal instance configured and deployed by a second server, the single-use application portal instance configured to directly connect to the first server, the single-use application portal instance providing an indirect connection to the first server, and

a second client device corresponding to a non-registered user of the collaboration service, the second client device configured to connect directly to the single-use application portal instance using a hyperlink;

wherein:

the single-use application portal instance is configured based on credentials associated with the non-registered user;

the second client device, in response to selection of the hyperlink, is configured to automatically connect to the application portal instance via a web browser being executed on the second client device;

the first client device and the second client device are configured to communicate over the private network using the collaboration service; and

when the single-use application portal instance detects that the second client device is no longer connected to the application portal instance, the system is configured to delete the single-use application portal instance wherein the second client device can not send data to the single-use application portal instance or receive data from the application portal instance.

The system of claim 8 , wherein the first server is configured to generate a hyperlink corresponding to the single-use application portal instance, and wherein upon activation of the hyperlink, the second client device is configured to connect to the single-use application portal instance and communicate over the private network.

The system of claim 8 , wherein the system is configured to provision the single-use application portal instance ad hoc upon receipt of a message indicating that the first client device wishes to communicate with the second client device, and wherein the application portal instance is provisioned prior to deployment.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the application portal instance is selected from a set of pre-configured single-use application portal instances, and wherein the single-use application portal instance is selected prior to deployment.

The system of claim 8 , wherein the collaboration service is configured to provide any one or more of the features from the group comprising: video conferencing; voice group conferencing; person-to-person telephony; group text chat rooms; person-to-person text chat; file sharing in either direction; sender-controlled email that can be read and replied to; and virtual desktop infrastructure.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the second client device is configured to communicate over the private network without a native version of the collaboration service installed.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the single-use application portal instance is provisioned with a one-time-use credential associated with the non-registered user.

15. The system of claim 8 , wherein the single-use application portal instance is a platform as a service (PaaS) providing an indirect, single-use connection to the collaboration service.

16. The system of claim 8 , wherein the single-use application portal instance is a software as a service (SaaS) providing an indirect, single-use connection to the collaboration service.

17. A system for facilitating communication between users of a collaboration service on a private network, comprising:

a first server configured to host the collaboration service;

a first client device corresponding to a registered user of the collaboration service, the first client device in direct communication with the first server to use the collaboration service;

a second server configured to deploy a single-use application portal instance, the single-use application portal instance configured to directly connect to the first server, the single-use application portal instance providing an indirect connection to the first server; and

a second client device corresponding to a non-registered user of the collaboration service, the second client device being configured to connect directly to the single-use application portal instance using a hyperlink;

wherein:

the single-use application portal instance is configured based on credentials associated with the non-registered user:

the second client device, in response to selection of the hyperlink, is configured to automatically connect to the single-use application portal instance via a web browser being executed on the second client device;

the first client device and the second client device being configured to communicate over the private network using the collaboration service;

when the single-use application portal instance detects that the second client device is no longer connected to the single-use application portal instance, the system is configured to delete the single-use application portal instance wherein the second client device can not send data to the single-use application portal instance or receive data from the single-use application portal instance.

18. A non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with instructions for commanding one or more data processors to execute steps of a method for facilitating communication between users of a collaboration service on a private network, the method comprising:

receiving a request from a first client device to communicate with a second client device, the first client device corresponding to a registered user of the collaboration service, the second client device corresponding to a non-registered user of the collaboration service;

establishing a direct connection with the first client device, the direct connection enabling the first client device to use the collaboration service;

configuring and deploying a single-use application portal instance, the single-use application portal instance providing an indirect connection to use the collaboration service, wherein the single-use application portal instance is configured based on credentials associated with the non-registered user; and

providing a hyperlink to the second client device, the hyperlink being used by the second client device to connect to the single-use application portal instance using a web browser;

wherein:

the second client device, in response to selection of the hyperlink, automatically connects to the a single-use application portal instance via a web browser being executed on the second client device;

the first client device and the second client device communicate over the private network using the collaboration service;

when the web browser is closed, the single-use application portal instance is deleted wherein the second client device can not send data to the single-use application portal instance or receive data from the single-use application portal instance.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , the method further comprising:

generating a hyperlink corresponding to the single-use application portal instance, wherein upon activation of the hyperlink, the second client device is configured to connect to the single-use application portal instance and communicate over the private network.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the single-use application portal instance is provisioned ad hoc upon receipt of a message indicating that the first client device wishes to communicate with the second client device, and wherein the single-use application portal instance is provisioned prior to deploying.

21. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the single-use application portal instance is selected from a set of pre-configured single-use application portal instances, and wherein the single-use application portal instance is selected prior to deploying.

22. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , further comprising:

terminating communication between the first client device and the second client device; and

deleting the single-use application portal instance such that the second client device can not send data to the application portal instance or receive data from the single-use application portal instance.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the collaboration service provides any one or more of the features from the group comprising: video conferencing; voice group conferencing; person-to-person telephony; group text chat rooms; person-to-person text chat; file sharing in either direction; sender-controlled email that can be read and replied to; and virtual desktop infrastructure.
