Abstract

Methods and systems for generating segmented media asset identifiers are described herein. The method includes retrieving a first media guidance data segment of a plurality of media guidance data segments. Each segment of the plurality of media guidance data segments includes a plurality of media asset identifiers and is navigationally linked to at least one other media guidance data segment. The method further involves generating for display the media asset identifiers of the first media guidance data segment. While generating for display the media asset identifiers of the first media guidance data segment, a first user input corresponding to navigating to the media asset identifiers of a linked media guidance data segment is received. In response to receiving the first user input, the linked media guidance data segment is retrieved, and the media asset identifiers of the linked media guidance data segment are generated for display.

Claims (48)

1. A method comprising:

generating for display a plurality of media asset categories, each respective media asset category comprising a plurality of media asset identifiers, wherein a highlight is currently associated with a first media asset identifier and visually distinguishes the first media asset identifier from other displayed media asset identifiers by highlighting the first media asset identifier;

receiving a first user input to navigate from a first media asset category to a second media asset category after receiving user input to navigate from an initial media asset identifier of the first media asset category to the first media asset identifier of the first media asset category, wherein the first user input is received while the highlight is associated with the first media asset identifier of the first media asset category, wherein the first media asset category is an ordered list of media asset identifiers, and wherein a default arrangement of the first media asset category comprises displaying the initial media asset identifier more prominently in the ordered list than the first media asset identifier;

in response to receiving the first user input, storing in memory an indication that the highlight was associated with the first media asset identifier when the first user input was received;

receiving a second user input to navigate from the second media asset category back to the first media asset category;

in response to receiving the second input to navigate from the second media asset category back to the first media asset category, retrieving the indication from the memory;

identifying, based on the indication retrieved from the memory, the first media asset identifier as a media asset identifier with which the highlight was associated when the first user input was received; and

based on the identifying of the first media asset identifier, generating for display the first media asset category with the highlight associated with the first media asset identifier, wherein the display of the plurality of media asset identifiers for the first media asset category is configured such that navigation continues from the first media asset identifier after receiving the second user input to navigate from the second media asset category back to the first media asset category.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the default arrangement of the ordered list comprises the initial media asset identifier being displayed above the first media asset identifier.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein a displayed portion of the ordered list comprises a subset of the media asset identifiers of the first media category.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating for simultaneous display with the first media asset identifier a preview of a first media asset represented by the first media asset identifier.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating for simultaneous display with the first media asset identifier a description of a first media asset represented by the first media asset identifier.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving user input to navigate through the plurality of media asset identifiers of the first media asset category generated for display;

while the plurality of media asset identifiers of the first media asset category generated for display, refraining from generating for display the media asset identifiers of the other media asset categories.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

generating for display respective identifiers of each media asset category regardless of a media asset category that the media asset identifier is associated with.

8. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

in response receiving the first user input to navigate from the first media asset category to the second media asset category, causing the media asset identifiers of the second media asset category to be generated for display and ceasing the generating for display of the media asset identifiers of the first media asset category.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first media asset category with the highlight associated with the first media asset identifier is generated for display without generating for display a video corresponding to a media asset identified by any of the plurality of media asset identifiers.

10. A system comprising:

memory; and

control circuitry configured to:

generate for display a plurality of media asset categories, each respective media asset category comprising a plurality of media asset identifiers, wherein a highlight is currently associated with a first media asset identifier and visually distinguishes the first media asset identifier from other displayed media asset identifiers by highlighting the first media asset identifier;

receive a first user input to navigate from a first media asset category to a second media asset category after receiving user input to navigate from an initial media asset identifier of the first media asset category to the first media asset identifier of the first media asset category, wherein the first user input is received while the highlight is associated with the first media asset identifier of the first media asset category, wherein the first media asset category is an ordered list of media asset identifiers, and wherein a default arrangement of the first media asset category comprises displaying the initial media asset identifier more prominently in the ordered list than the first media asset identifier;

in response to receiving the first user input, store in the memory an indication that the highlight was associated with the first media asset identifier when the first user input was received;

receive a second user input to navigate from the second media asset category back to the first media asset category;

in response to receiving the second input to navigate from the second media asset category back to the first media asset category, retrieve the indication from the memory;

identify, based on the indication retrieved from the memory, the first media asset identifier as a media asset identifier with which the highlight was associated when the first user input was received; and

based on the identifying of the first media asset identifier, generate for display the first media asset category with the highlight associated with the first media asset identifier, wherein the display of the plurality of media asset identifiers for the first media asset category is configured such that navigation continues from the first media asset identifier after receiving the second user input to navigate from the second media asset category back to the first media asset category.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein:

the default arrangement of the ordered list comprises the initial media asset identifier being displayed above the first media asset identifier.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein a displayed portion of the ordered list comprises a subset of the media asset identifiers of the first media category.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

generate for simultaneous display with the first media asset identifier a preview of a first media asset represented by the first media asset identifier.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

generate for simultaneous display with the first media asset identifier a description of a first media asset represented by the first media asset identifier.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

receive user input to navigate through the plurality of media asset identifiers of the first media asset category generated for display;

while the plurality of media asset identifiers of the first media asset category generated for display, refrain from generating for display the media asset identifiers of the other media asset categories.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

generate for display respective identifiers of each media asset category regardless of a media asset category that the media asset identifier is associated with.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

in response receiving the first user input to navigate from the first media asset category to the second media asset category, cause the media asset identifiers of the second media asset category to be generated for display and ceasing the generating for display of the media asset identifiers of the first media asset category.

18. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to generate for display the first media asset category with the highlight associated with the first media asset identifier without generating for display a video corresponding to a media asset identified by any of the plurality of media asset identifiers.
