Abstract

Systems and techniques are described for dynamically configuring and/or adjusting intervals for exchanging supervision signals between a control panel and an associated server system of a monitoring system located in a property. In some implementations, sensor data generated by one or more sensors of a monitoring system is obtained. A status of the property is determined based on the sensor data. A pinging frequency of the monitoring system is adjusted based on the status of the property. The pinging frequency specifies a frequency of communications between the server system and the control unit. The control unit is then configured to communicate with the server system according to the adjusted pinging frequency.

Claims (72)

1. A method performed by one or more computing devices, the method comprising:

accessing a repository that a) specifies (i) a set of statuses for a property, and (ii) pinging frequencies for a monitoring component based on the set of statuses and b) maps each status in the set of statuses for the property to a corresponding pinging frequency, at least a first pinging frequency in the repository different from a second pinging frequency in the repository;

selecting, from among the set of statuses specified by the repository, a particular status as corresponding to the status of a property;

determining, using the particular status and the mapping of each status in the set of statuses to a corresponding pinging frequency and an identifier for a first component at the property, a particular pinging frequency that is different than a second pinging frequency for a second component at the property; and

providing, to the monitoring component, an instruction that causes the monitoring component to adjust a pinging frequency to match the particular pinging frequency mapped in the repository to the particular status.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the monitoring component comprises a control unit of the property; and

the control unit is associated with a monitoring system that includes a server; and

the pinging frequency comprises a frequency of outgoing communication from the control unit to the server.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the status of the property indicates whether the property is currently occupied; and

the instruction causes the monitoring component to adjust a pinging frequency of communication with a server based on whether the property is currently occupied.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the status of the property indicates that an emergency condition has occurred at the property; and

the instruction causes the monitoring component to increase a pinging frequency of communication with a server based on the emergency condition having occurred at the property.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a second status for another property located in a region that includes the property; and

wherein selecting the particular status comprises selecting, from among the set of statuses specified by the repository and using the second status for the other property located in the region that includes the property, the particular status as corresponding to the status of the property.

6. The method of claim 5 , comprising:

determining, using a plurality of statuses for properties located in the region including the status and the second status, an aggregated status for the region,

wherein selecting the particular status comprises selecting, from among the set of statuses specified by the repository and using the aggregated status for the region that includes the other property and the property, the particular status as corresponding to the status of the property.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the particular status comprises:

determining contextual information for the property; and

selecting, from among the set of statuses specified by the repository and using the contextual information for the property, the particular status as corresponding to the status of the property.

8. The method of claim 2 , comprising:

determining, for each of a plurality of components at the property, a corresponding status; and

determining the status of the property using a combination of the statuses of the plurality of components at the property.

9. A system comprising:

one or more computing devices; and

one or more storage devices storing instructions that cause the one or more computing devices to perform operations comprising:

accessing a repository that a) specifies (i) a set of statuses for a property, and (ii) pinging frequencies for a monitoring component based on the set of statuses and b) maps each status in the set of statuses for the property to a corresponding pinging frequency, at least a first pinging frequency in the repository different from a second pinging frequency in the repository;

selecting, from among the set of statuses specified by the repository, a particular status as corresponding to a status of the property;

determining, using the particular status and the mapping of each status in the set of statuses to a corresponding pinging frequency and an identifier for a first component at the property, a particular pinging frequency that is different than a second pinging frequency for a second component at the property; and

providing, to the monitoring component, an instruction that causes the monitoring component to adjust a pinging frequency to match the particular pinging frequency mapped in the repository to the particular status.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein:

the monitoring component comprises a control unit of the property; and

the control unit is associated with a monitoring system that includes a server; and

the pinging frequency comprises a frequency of outgoing communication from the control unit to the server.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein:

the status of the property indicates whether the property is currently occupied; and

the instruction causes the monitoring component to adjust a pinging frequency of communication with a server based on whether the property is currently occupied.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein:

the status of the property indicates that the property is currently occupied; and

the instruction causes the monitoring component to reduce a pinging frequency of communication with the server based on the property being currently occupied.

13. The system of claim 9 , wherein:

the status of the property indicates that the property is currently armed; and

the instruction causes the monitoring component to increase a pinging frequency of communication with a server based on the property being currently armed.

14. The system of claim 9 , wherein selecting the particular status comprises:

determining contextual information for the property; and

selecting, from among the set of statuses specified by the repository and using the contextual information for the property, the particular status as corresponding to the status of the property.

15. The system of claim 9 , the operations comprising:

determining a second status for another property located in a region that includes the property; and

determining, using a plurality of statuses for properties located in the region including the status and the second status, an aggregated status for the region, wherein:

selecting the particular status comprises selecting, from among the set of statuses specified by the repository and using the aggregated status for the region that includes the other property and the property, the particular status as corresponding to the status of the property.

16. At least one non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing instructions that cause one or more computing devices to perform operations comprising:

accessing a repository that a) specifies (i) a set of statuses for a property, and (ii) pinging frequencies for a monitoring component based on the set of statuses and b) maps each status in the set of statuses for the property to a corresponding pinging frequency, at least a first pinging frequency in the repository different from a second pinging frequency in the repository;

selecting, from among the set of statuses specified by the repository, a particular status as corresponding to a status of the property;

determining, using the particular status and the mapping of each status in the set of statuses to a corresponding pinging frequency and an identifier for a first component at the property, a particular pinging frequency that is different than a second pinging frequency for a second component at the property; and

providing, to the monitoring component, an instruction that causes the monitoring component to adjust a pinging frequency to match the particular pinging frequency mapped in the repository to the particular status.
