Abstract

Disclosed is a surgical system that includes a surgical hub couplable with inventory items of an institution, and a cloud-based analytics system communicatively coupled to the surgical hub. The cloud-based analytics system is configured to receive a selection of a surgical procedure to be performed; determine a property of a tissue to be treated in the surgical procedure; select from the inventory items a surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the tissue property; and suggest using the surgical device in the surgical procedure based on availability of the surgical device in inventory.

Claims (38)

1 . A surgical system, comprising:

a surgical hub couplable with inventory items of an institution; and

a cloud-based analytics system communicatively coupled to the surgical hub, wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to:

receive a selection of a surgical procedure to be performed;

determine a property of a tissue to be treated in the surgical procedure;

select from the inventory items a surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the tissue property; and

suggest using the surgical device in the surgical procedure based on availability of the surgical device in inventory.

2 . The surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to receive, via the surgical hub, data associated with the inventory items, and wherein the received data comprises a unique identifier for each inventory item.

3 . The surgical system of claim 2 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to determine whether the surgical device is available for use based on its respective unique identifier and system-defined constraints, wherein the system-defined constraints comprise at least one use restriction.

4 . They surgical system of claim 3 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to generate a cloud interface for the institution, wherein the institution's cloud interface comprises a plurality of user-interface elements, wherein at least one user-interface element enables selection of the surgical procedure to be performed, and wherein after selection of the surgical procedure, availability of each inventory item associated with the surgical procedure is dynamically generated on the institution's cloud interface.

5 . The surgical system of claim 4 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to transmit an alert for each inventory item determined as not available based on the system-defined constraints.

6 . The surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to, if the surgical devices is determined to be unavailable, suggest an available alternative surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the tissue property.

7 . The surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to, if the surgical devices is determined to be unavailable, suggest an available alternative surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the tissue property.

8 . The surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the tissue property comprises tissue elasticity, tissue impedance, or tissue perfusion.

9 . A surgical system, comprising:

a surgical hub couplable with inventory items of an institution; and

a cloud-based analytics system communicatively coupled to the surgical hub, wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to:

receive a selection of a surgical procedure;

receive perioperative data;

select from the inventory items a surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the perioperative data; and

suggest using the surgical device in the surgical procedure based on availability of the surgical device in inventory.

10 . The surgical system of claim 9 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to receive, via the surgical hub, data associated with the inventory items, and wherein the received data comprises a unique identifier for each inventory item.

11 . The surgical system of claim 10 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to determine whether the surgical device is available for use based on its respective unique identifier and system-defined constraints, wherein the system-defined constraints comprise at least one use restriction.

12 . They surgical system of claim 11 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to generate a cloud interface for the institution, wherein the institution's cloud interface comprises a plurality of user-interface elements, wherein at least one user-interface element enables selection of the surgical procedure to be performed, and wherein after selection of the surgical procedure, availability of each inventory item associated with the surgical procedure is dynamically generated on the institution's cloud interface.

13 . The surgical system of claim 12 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to transmit an alert for each inventory item determined as not available based on the system-defined constraints.

14 . The surgical system of claim 9 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to, if the surgical devices is determined to be unavailable, suggest an available alternative surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the perioperative data.

15 . The surgical system of claim 9 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to, if the surgical devices is determined to be unavailable, suggest an available alternative surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the perioperative data.

16 . A surgical system, comprising:

a surgical hub couplable with inventory items of an institution; and

a cloud-based analytics system communicatively coupled to the surgical hub, wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to:

receive a selection of a surgical procedure to be performed;

determine a characteristic of the surgical procedure;

select from the inventory items a surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the characteristic of the surgical procedure; and

suggest using the surgical device in the surgical procedure based on availability of the surgical device in inventory.

17 . The surgical system of claim 16 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to receive, via the surgical hub, data associated with the inventory items, and wherein the received data comprises a unique identifier for each inventory item.

18 . The surgical system of claim 17 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to determine whether the surgical device is available for use based on its respective unique identifier and system-defined constraints, wherein the system-defined constraints comprise at least one use restriction.

19 . They surgical system of claim 18 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to generate a cloud interface for the institution, wherein the institution's cloud interface comprises a plurality of user-interface elements, wherein at least one user-interface element enables selection of the surgical procedure to be performed, and wherein after selection of the surgical procedure, availability of each inventory item associated with the surgical procedure is dynamically generated on the institution's cloud interface.

20 . The surgical system of claim 19 , wherein the cloud-based analytics system is configured to transmit an alert for each inventory item determined as not available based on the system-defined constraints.
