Abstract

Methods and systems for assigning a data center to service a request from a user account include receiving a login request to a cloud gaming server. The login request is examined to identify a user account. A use history of the cloud gaming server is examined to identify a data center. The user account is assigned to the data center to start a session of streaming game play at a server within the data center. The data center is identified without performing a connection testing operation.

Claims (43)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a request to access a user account of a user at a cloud gaming site;

identifying predictive attributes of the request by accessing a user profile of the user initiating the request, the predictive attributes used to predict a likelihood of the user selecting a game for game play at a time the user initiated the request;

identifying a data center available to the cloud gaming site for executing the game, the data center identified based on the predictive attributes of the request;

establishing a connection by a server of the data center with a client device of the user to provide access to an instance of the game loaded for execution by the server, responsive to the predicted likelihood, the connection established before evaluating attributes of the connection;

during execution of the game, evaluating attributes of the connection using game data; and

adjusting, based on the evaluation, one or more of said attributes of the connection to maintain quality of service requirements for playing the game.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identified data center was used to service prior requests of the user.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the attributes identify processing resources needed for meeting the quality of service requirements of the connection, and

wherein adjusting the one or more attributes includes adjusting one or more of the processing resources used for providing the connection, when the attributes of the connection do not meet the quality of service requirements for playing the game.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the attributes include connection speed expected for exchange of data related to the game play of the game, and wherein adjusting the one or more attributes includes switching the server of the data center assigned to service the request to a different server within the data center, wherein the different server provides the connection speed that meets the requirements for playing the game.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the attributes include resolution of the game data, and wherein adjusting the one or more attributes includes lowering resolution of the game data, during a time when the attributes do not meet the quality of service requirements for playing the game.

6. The method of claim 5 , further including restoring original resolution of the game data, upon detecting the attributes of the connection meet the quality of service requirements for playing the game.

7. The method of claim 1 , further includes automatically updating user account metrics associated with the user account of the user with information from the game play of the game by the user.

8. The method of claim 1 , further includes automatically updating data center metrics associated with the identified data center assigned for executing the game, with information from the game play and the request, upon servicing the request from the user.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein when the attributes of the connection of the identified data center do not meet the requirements expected for executing the game, switching from the data center to a second data center, the switching of data center is performed by,

providing an option at a user interface rendered on a display screen of the client device seeking user input for switching the data center to the second data center, the option including a list of data centers that are available for satisfying the requirements expected for executing the game for the user; and

performing the switching of the data center to the second data center, in response to the user input selecting the second data center from the list received at the user interface.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the switching of data center is performed at a predefined transition point defined for the game.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the second data center for switching is identified based on geo location of the user initiating the request.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the server executing game logic of the game at the data center is different from and is communicatively connected to the server executing the connection module.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the server executing game logic of the game at the data center is same as the server executing the connection module.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein predicting the likelihood of the user selecting the game further includes,

determining certainty value assigned for each of said predictive attributes based on usage history of the user;

assigning weight to each of said predictive attributes based on the certainty value of said each predictive attribute; and

determining the likelihood of the user selecting the game by evaluating the certainty value assigned to each of the predictive attributes of the user.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer executable instructions stored thereon, which when executed causes a computer system to carry out a method, the computer readable storage medium including:

program instructions for receiving a request to access a user account of a user at a cloud gaming site;

program instructions for identifying predictive attributes of the request by accessing a user profile of the user initiating the request, the predictive attributes used to predict a likelihood of the user selecting a game for game play at a time the user initiated the request;

program instructions for identifying a data center available to the cloud gaming site for executing the game, the data center identified based on the predictive attributes of the request;

program instructions for establishing a connection by a game server of the data center with a client device of the user to provide access to an instance of the game loaded for execution by the server, responsive to the predicted likelihood, the connection established before evaluating attributes of the connection;

program instructions for evaluating, during execution of the game, attributes of the connection using game data; and

program instructions for adjusting, based on the evaluation, one or more of the attributes of the connection to maintain quality of service requirements for playing the game.

16. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the attributes identify processing resources needed for meeting the quality of service requirements of the connection, and

wherein program instructions for adjusting the one or more attributes includes program instructions for dynamically adjusting one or more of the processing resources used for providing the connection, when the attributes of the connection do not meet quality of service requirements for playing the game.

17. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the connection attributes include resolution of the game data, and

wherein program instructions for adjusting the one or more attributes includes program instructions for lowering the resolution of the game data, during a time when the attributes do not meet the quality of service requirements for playing the game.

18. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , further includes program instructions for restoring original resolution of the game data, upon detecting the attributes of the connection meet the quality of service requirements for playing the game.
