Abstract

Provided is a filter apparatus, comprising two or more filter cartridges having a first end with an inlet and screen and a second end with an outlet and screen, and walls to contain a filter media held in a housing for holding the two or more filter cartridges in about the same orientation, and an attachment clamp connected to the housing. Also provided is a housing for holding two or more filter cartridges in about the same orientation and a method of using the filter apparatus and housing.

Claims (48)

1. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient, comprising:

an isolation-aspiration catheter, and

a filter apparatus comprising two or more filter cartridges mounted in a single frame housing,

wherein the housing comprises an upper plate and a lower plate for holding the two or more filter cartridges in about the same orientation, the upper plate and the lower plate comprising openings for rotatably engaging the two or more filter cartridges, and an attachment clamp.

2. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising a venous return sheath.

3. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising a venous return catheter.

4. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising a hepatic arterial infusion catheter.

5. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising melphalan hydrochloride.

6. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , further comprising an extracorporeal circuit.

7. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , wherein the two or more filter cartridges extend through the openings of the upper plate, the lower plate, or the upper and lower plates.

8. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , wherein the filter apparatus is a dual cartridge.

9. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , wherein the isolation-aspiration catheter is a double balloon catheter.

10. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 1 , wherein the attachment clamp is a pole clamp.

11. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient, comprising:

an isolation-aspiration catheter, and

a filter apparatus, comprising two or more filter cartridges having a first end with an inlet and screen and a second end with an outlet and screen, and walls to contain a filter media; a housing comprising an upper plate and a lower plate for holding the two or more filter cartridges in about the same orientation, the upper plate and the lower plate comprising openings for rotatably engaging the two or more filter cartridges, and one or more support elements connecting the upper plate and the lower plate.

12. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , further comprising a venous return sheath.

13. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , further comprising a venous return catheter.

14. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , further comprising a hepatic arterial infusion catheter.

15. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , further comprising melphalan hydrochloride.

16. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , further comprising an extracorporeal circuit.

17. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , further comprising a pole clamp connected to the housing.

18. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , wherein the two or more filter cartridges extend through the openings, the upper plate ( 1 ) and the lower plate ( 1 ).

19. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , wherein the walls to contain the filter media comprise a cartridge.

20. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , wherein the filter media comprises activated carbon.

21. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , wherein the filter media is hydrogel coated activated carbon.

22. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 11 , wherein the isolation-aspiration catheter is a double balloon catheter.

23. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient, comprising:

an isolation aspiration catheter;

a filter apparatus comprising two or more filter cartridges each filter cartridge comprising a first end with an inlet, and a first screen, a second end with an outlet and a second screen, and walls configured to contain a filter media and comprising a cartridge tube, wherein the outlet of each filter cartridge is connected to an outlet connector by an outlet flange;

a housing comprising an upper plate and a lower plate oriented substantially parallel to each other and configured to hold the two or more filter cartridges in about the same orientation, the upper plate and the lower plate each defining two or more openings to which the two or more filter cartridges are rotatably coupled and wherein the outlet flange connected to each outlet connector extends through the two or more openings of the upper plate,

and an attachment clamp connected to the housing.

24. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , wherein the housing further comprises one or more support elements connecting the upper plate and the lower plate.

25. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , wherein the cartridge tube is comprised of a transparent material selected from the group consisting of a polysulfone, a polycarbonate, a polypropylene and an acrylic.

26. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , wherein the filter media is hydrogel coated activated carbon.

27. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , further comprising a venous return sheath.

28. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , further comprising a venous return catheter.

29. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , further comprising a hepatic arterial infusion catheter.

30. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , further comprising melphalan hydrochloride.

31. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , further comprising an extracorporeal circuit.

32. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , wherein the filter apparatus is a dual cartridge.

33. A kit for delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a liver of a patient according to claim 23 , wherein the isolation-aspiration catheter is a double balloon catheter.

34. A percutaneous hepatic perfusion (PHP) system for delivering high-dose chemotherapy to the liver, comprising:

an isolation-aspiration catheter; and a filter apparatus incorporated in an extracorporeal circuit and wherein the filter apparatus comprises two or more filter cartridges mounted in a single frame housing,

wherein the housing comprises an upper plate and a lower plate for holding the two or more filter cartridges in about the same orientation, the upper plate and the lower plate comprising openings for rotatably engaging the two or more filter cartridges, and an attachment clamp.

35. A percutaneous hepatic perfusion (PHP) system for delivering high-dose chemotherapy to the liver according to claim 34 , further comprising a venous return sheath.

36. A percutaneous hepatic perfusion (PHP) system for delivering high-dose chemotherapy to the liver according to claim 34 , further comprising a venous return catheter.

37. A percutaneous hepatic perfusion (PHP) system for delivering high-dose chemotherapy to the liver according to claim 34 , further comprising a hepatic arterial infusion catheter.
