Abstract

According to one embodiment, an information processing device includes a nonvolatile memory, assignment unit, and transmission unit. The assignment unit assigns logical address spaces to spaces. Each of the spaces is assigned to at least one write management area included in a nonvolatile memory. The write management area is a unit of an area which manages the number of write. The transmission unit transmits a command for the nonvolatile memory and identification data of a space assigned to a logical address space corresponding to the command.

Claims (49)

1 . A storage device comprising:

a nonvolatile memory; and

a controller electrically connected to the nonvolatile memory and configured to:

according to a first command received from a host, the first command designating a first namespace and a first capacity,

increase an over-provisioning capacity of the first namespace by the designated first capacity.

2 . The storage device according to claim 1 , wherein

the first namespace has a second capacity for storing user data.

3 . The storage device according to claim 2 , wherein

a capacity allocated to the first namespace for storing the user data is the second capacity after the over-provisioning capacity of the first namespace is increased.

4 . The storage device according to claim 1 , further comprising a volatile memory, wherein

the over-provisioning capacity is allocated in the volatile memory.

5 . The storage device according to claim 1 , wherein

the nonvolatile memory includes a plurality of blocks, and

the controller is further configured to:

execute a garbage collection; and

in executing the garbage collection, change a namespace to which an empty block belongs to another namespace, the empty block storing no valid data.

6 . The storage device according to claim 1 , wherein

the first command is a command with which no user data is transmitted to the storage device.

7 . The storage device according to claim 1 , wherein

the first namespace includes a plurality of groups, the plurality of groups each have a write frequency that is a frequency of storing user data, the write frequency of the plurality of groups being different from each other.

8 . The storage device according to claim 7 , wherein

the plurality of groups include a first group and a second group, the write frequency of the first group being higher than the write frequency of the second group.

9 . The storage device according to claim 8 , wherein

the first namespace is one of a plurality of namespaces, the plurality of namespaces each have the plurality of groups, the first group is allocated across the plurality of namespaces.

10 . The storage device according to claim 1 , wherein

the controller is further configured to:

according to increasing the over-provisioning capacity of the first namespace, transmit an identifier and a size of the first namespace to the host.

11 . A method of controlling a storage device, the storage device including a nonvolatile memory, the method comprising:

receiving a first command from a host, the first command designating a first namespace and a first capacity; and

according to the first command, increasing an over-provisioning capacity of the first namespace by the designated first capacity.

12 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein

the first namespace has a second capacity for storing user data.

13 . The method according to claim 12 , wherein

a capacity allocated to the first namespace for storing the user data is the second capacity after the over-provisioning capacity of the first namespace is increased.

14 . The method according to claim 11 , the storage device further including a volatile memory, wherein

the over-provisioning capacity is allocated in the volatile memory.

15 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the nonvolatile memory includes a plurality of blocks, and the method further comprises:

executing a garbage collection, and

in executing the garbage collection, changing a namespace to which an empty block belongs to another namespace, the empty block storing no valid data.

16 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein

the first command is a command with which no user data is transmitted to the storage device.

17 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein

the first namespace includes a plurality of groups, the plurality of groups each have a write frequency that is a frequency of storing user data, the write frequency of the plurality of groups being different from each other.

18 . The method according to claim 17 , wherein

the plurality of groups include a first group and a second group, the write frequency of the first group being higher than the write frequency of the second group.

19 . The method according to claim 18 , wherein

the first namespace is one of a plurality of namespaces, the plurality of namespaces each have the plurality of groups, the first group is allocated across the plurality of namespaces.

20 . The method according to claim 11 , further comprising:

according to increasing the over-provisioning capacity of the first namespace, transmitting an identifier and a size of the first namespace to the host.
