Abstract

An electro-optical device is provided and includes first signal lines extending in first direction on substrate; second signal lines extending in second direction on substrate, second direction intersecting first direction; pixel area in which pixel electrodes are disposed; outer peripheral edge of pixel area having curved or bent portions; first and second circuit blocks arranged along curved or bent portions, each of first and second circuit blocks including at least two unit circuits, wherein second circuit block is arranged adjacent to first circuit block with gap therebetween in first direction, first circuit block has first upper part and first lower part that define width of first circuit block in second direction, second circuit block has second upper part and second lower part that define width of second circuit block in second direction, and first upper part is arranged between second upper part and second lower part in second direction.

Claims (76)

1. An electro-optical device comprising:

a plurality of first signal lines extending in a first direction on a substrate;

a plurality of second signal lines extending in a second direction on the substrate, the second direction intersecting the first direction;

a pixel area in which a plurality of pixel electrodes are disposed;

an outer peripheral edge of the pixel area having a curved portion or a bent portion;

a first circuit block and a second circuit block arranged along the curved portion or the bent portion, each of the first circuit block and the second circuit block comprising at least two unit circuits, wherein

the second circuit block is arranged adjacent to the first circuit block with a gap therebetween in the first direction,

the first circuit block has a first upper part and a first lower part that define the width of the first circuit block in the second direction,

the second circuit block has a second upper part and a second lower part that define the width of the second circuit block in the second direction,

the first upper part is arranged between the second upper part and the second lower part in the second direction, and

a lead-out area where the first circuit block and the second circuit block are connected with wiring is provided in the gap.

2. The electro-optical device according to claim 1 , wherein

the second lower part is arranged between the first upper part and the first lower part in the second direction.

3. The electro-optical device according to claim 1 , wherein

the wiring connects the first upper part and the second lower part.

4. The electro-optical device according to claim 1 , wherein

the substrate has an outer peripheral edge approximately along the outer peripheral edge of the pixel area.

5. An electro-optical device comprising:

a plurality of first signal lines extending in a first direction on a substrate;

a plurality of second signal lines extending in a second direction on the substrate, the second direction intersecting the first direction;

a pixel area in which a plurality of pixel electrodes are disposed;

an outer peripheral edge of the pixel area having a curved portion or a bent portion;

a first circuit block and a second circuit block arranged along the curved portion or the bent portion, each of the first circuit block and the second circuit block comprising at least two unit circuits, and

a third circuit block comprising at least two unit circuits, wherein

the second circuit block is arranged adjacent to the first circuit block with a gap therebetween in the first direction,

the first circuit block has a first upper part and a first lower part that define the width of the first circuit block in the second direction,

the second circuit block has a second upper part and a second lower part that define the width of the second circuit block in the second direction,

the first upper part is arranged between the second upper part and the second lower part in the second direction,

the third circuit block is arranged adjacent to the first circuit block with a gap therebetween in the first direction

the third circuit block has a third upper part and a third lower part that define the width of the third circuit block in the second direction, and

the first lower part is arranged between the third upper part and the second lower part in the second direction.

6. The electro-optical device according to claim 5 , further comprising

a lead-out area where the third circuit block and the first circuit block are connected with wiring and that is provided in the gap.

7. The electro-optical device according to claim 6 , wherein

the wiring connects the third upper part and the first lower part.

8. The electro-optical device according to claim 5 , wherein

the first lower part is arranged between the second lower part and the third lower part in the second direction.

9. The electro-optical device according to claim 8 , further comprising

a lead-out area where the third circuit block and the first circuit block are connected with wiring and that is provided in the gap.

10. The electro-optical device according to claim 9 , wherein

the wiring connects the third upper part and the first lower part.

11. The electro-optical device according to claim 5 , wherein

the first signal lines are scanning lines, and the first circuit block, the second circuit block, and the third circuit block are scanning line driving circuits,

each of the unit circuits includes a shift register and a buffer connected to the shift register, and

the shift register, the buffer, and the pixel area are aligned in the first direction.

12. The electro-optical device according to claim 11 , further comprising

an output line that is connected to the buffer and extends in the first direction, wherein

the output line is disposed at a different position in the second direction from the first signal line to which an output signal from the buffer is provided via the output line,

a relay line is arranged between the output line and the first signal line, and the relay line has an extending portion in the second direction.

13. The electro-optical device according to claim 12 , wherein

the first circuit block has at least two output lines and provides the output signals to at least two signal lines, and

a pitch of the output lines is smaller than a pitch of the first signal lines that receive the output signals from the first circuit block.

14. The electro-optical device according to claim 5 , wherein

the substrate has an outer peripheral edge approximately along the outer peripheral edge of the pixel area.

15. An electro-optical device comprising:

a plurality of first signal lines extending in a first direction on a substrate;

a plurality of second signal lines extending in a second direction on the substrate, the second direction intersecting the first direction;

a pixel area in which a plurality of pixel electrodes are disposed;

an outer peripheral edge of the pixel area having a curved portion or a bent portion;

a first circuit block and a second circuit block arranged along the curved portion or the bent portion, each of the first circuit block and the second circuit block comprising at least two unit circuits, wherein

the second circuit block is arranged adjacent to the first circuit block with a gap therebetween in the first direction,

the first circuit block has a first upper part and a first lower part that define the width of the first circuit block in the second direction,

the second circuit block has a second upper part and a second lower part that define the width of the second circuit block in the second direction,

the first upper part is arranged between the second upper part and the second lower part in the second direction,

the first signal lines are scanning lines, and the first circuit block and the second circuit block are scanning line driving circuits,

each of the unit circuits in the first and second circuit block includes a shift register and a buffer connected to the shift register, and

the shift register, the buffer, and the pixel area are aligned in the first direction.

16. The electro-optical device according to claim 15 , further comprising

an output line that is connected to the buffer and extends in the first direction, wherein

the output line is disposed at a different position in the second direction from the first signal line to which an output signal from the buffer is provided via the output line,

a relay line is arranged between the output line and the first signal line, and the relay line has an extending portion in the second direction.

17. The electro-optical device according to claim 16 , wherein

the first circuit block has at least two output lines and provides the output signals to at least two signal lines, and

a pitch of the output lines is smaller than a pitch of the first signal lines that receive the output signals from the first circuit block.

18. The electro-optical device according to claim 15 , wherein

the substrate has an outer peripheral edge approximately along the outer peripheral edge of the pixel area.
