Carrier activation in a multi-carrier wireless network
A base station may send one or more instructions to activate multiple cells. The cells may include a licensed cell and an unlicensed cell. The base station may receive uplink signals from the activated cells. Reception of an uplink signal via the licensed cell may may start after reception of an uplink signal via the unlicensed cell.
1. A method comprising:
transmitting, by a base station and during a transmission time interval (TTI), one or more commands to activate:
a licensed cell; and
an unlicensed cell;
starting receiving, before a first duration after the TTI, one or more first uplink signals via the unlicensed cell; and
starting receiving, after starting reception of the one or more first uplink signals and before a second duration after the TTI, one or more second uplink signals via the licensed cell, wherein the first duration is different from the second duration.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
transmitting, based on reception of the one or more first uplink signals, scheduling grants for the unlicensed cell; and
transmitting, based on reception of the one or more second uplink signals, scheduling grants for the licensed cell.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the one or more first uplink signals comprise channel state information (CSI) for the unlicensed cell; and
the one or more second uplink signals comprise CSI for the licensed cell.
4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting one or more configuration parameters for at least one of the licensed cell or the unlicensed cell, and wherein the one or more configuration parameters comprise a deactivation timer.
5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, before reception of the first one or more uplink signals, out of range ( 00 R) channel state information (CSI) for the unlicensed cell.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein a first activation delay of the licensed cell is at least one of:
different from a second activation delay of the unlicensed cell; or
longer than the second activation delay of the unlicensed cell.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the TTI, the first duration, or the second duration comprises a subframe.
9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving an indication that a wireless device supports configuration of at least one of:
the licensed cell; or
the unlicensed cell.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the licensed cell comprises at least one of:
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission;
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more non-3GPP standards; or
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more 3GPP standards.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the unlicensed cell comprises at least one of:
a licensed assisted access (LAA) cell;
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission;
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more non-3GPP standards; or
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more 3GPP standards.
12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmitting the one or more commands to activate the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell comprises transmitting a single command to activate both the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmitting the one or more commands to activate the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell comprises:
transmitting a first command to activate the licensed cell; and
transmitting a second command to activate the unlicensed cell.
14. A base station comprising:
one or more processors; and
memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to:
transmit, during a time transmission interval (TTI), one or more commands to activate:
a licensed cell; and
an unlicensed cell;
start receiving, before a first duration after the TTI, one or more first uplink signal via the unlicensed cell; and
start receiving, after starting reception of the one or more first uplink signals and before a second duration after the TTI, one or more second uplink signals via the licensed cell, wherein the first duration is different from the second duration.
15. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station to:
transmit, based on reception of the one or more first uplink signals, scheduling grants for the unlicensed cell; and
transmit, based on reception of the one or more second uplink signals, scheduling grants for the licensed cell.
16. The base station of claim 14 , wherein:
the one or more first uplink signals comprise channel state information (CSI) for the unlicensed cell; and
the one or more second uplink signals comprise CSI for the licensed cell.
17. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station to transmit one or more configuration parameters for at least one of the licensed cell or the unlicensed cell, and wherein the one or more configuration parameters comprise a deactivation timer.
18. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station to receive, before reception of the first one or more uplink signals, out of range ( 00 R) channel state information (CSI) for the unlicensed cell.
19. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration.
20. The base station of claim 14 , wherein a first activation delay of the licensed cell is at least one of:
different from a second activation delay of the unlicensed cell; or
longer than the second activation delay of the unlicensed cell.
21. The base station of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the TTI, the first duration, or the second duration comprises a subframe.
22. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station to receive an indication that a wireless device supports configuration of at least one of:
the licensed cell; or
the unlicensed cell.
23. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the licensed cell comprises at least one of:
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission;
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more non-3GPP standards; or
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more 3GPP standards.
24. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the unlicensed cell comprises at least one of:
a licensed assisted access (LAA) cell;
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission;
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more non-3GPP standards; or
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more 3GPP standards.
25. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to transmit the one or more commands to activate the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell at least by transmitting a single command to activate both the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell.
26. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to transmit the one or more commands to activate the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell at least by:
transmitting a first command to activate the licensed cell; and
transmitting a second command to activate the unlicensed cell.
27. A system comprising:
a base station; and
a wireless device;
wherein the base station is configured to:
transmit, during a time transmission interval (TTI), one or more commands to activate:
a licensed cell; and
an unlicensed cell;
start receiving, before a first duration after the TTI, one or more first uplink signal via the unlicensed cell; and
start receiving, after starting reception of the one or more first uplink signals and before a second duration after the TTI, one or more second uplink signals via the licensed cell, wherein the first duration is different from the second duration; and
wherein the wireless device is configured to receive the one or more commands to activate the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell.
28. The system of claim 27 , wherein the base station is further configured to:
transmit, based on reception of the one or more first uplink signals, scheduling grants for the unlicensed cell; and
transmit, based on reception of the one or more second uplink signals, scheduling grants for the licensed cell.
29. The system of claim 27 , wherein:
the one or more first uplink signals comprise channel state information (CSI) for the unlicensed cell; and
the one or more second uplink signals comprise CSI for the licensed cell.
30. The system of claim 27 , wherein the base station is further configured to transmit one or more configuration parameters for at least one of the licensed cell or the unlicensed cell, and wherein the one or more configuration parameters comprise a deactivation timer.
31. The system of claim 27 , wherein the base station is further configured to receive, before receiving the first one or more uplink signals, out of range (OOR) channel station information (CSI) for the unlicensed cell.
32. The system of claim 27 , wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration.
33. The system of claim 27 , wherein a first activation delay of the licensed cell is at least one of:
different from a second activation delay of the unlicensed cell; or
longer than the second activation delay of the unlicensed cell.
34. The system of claim 27 , wherein at least one of the TTI, the first duration, or the second duration comprises a subframe.
35. The system of claim 27 , wherein the base station is further configured to receive an indication that a wireless device supports configuration of at least one of:
the licensed cell; or
the unlicensed cell.
36. The system of claim 27 , wherein the licensed cell comprises at least one of:
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission;
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more non-3GPP standards; or
a cell that uses a licensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more 3GPP standards.
37. The system of claim 27 , wherein the unlicensed cell comprises at least one of:
a licensed assisted access (LAA) cell;
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission;
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more non-3GPP standards; or
a cell that uses an unlicensed spectrum for transmission in accordance with one or more 3GPP standards.
38. The system of claim 27 , wherein the base station is configured to transmit the one or more commands to activate the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell at least by transmitting a single command to activate both the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell.
39. The system of claim 27 , wherein the base station is configured to transmit the one or more commands to activate the licensed cell and the unlicensed cell at least by:
transmitting a first command to activate the licensed cell; and
transmitting a second command to activate the unlicensed cell.
