Abstract

A botanical extract that exhibits antioxidant activity, wherein the botanical extract is at least an extract from the genus Anacardium.

Claims (9)

1. A method of inhibiting oxidation-induced DNA damage in a subject comprising:

administering a composition comprising a botanical extract of the testa of the seed of Anacardium occidentale L.,

wherein the botanical extract is present in the composition in a therapeutically effective amount of about 30.0 μg/mL to about 500.0 μg/mL,

wherein the botanical extract has been standardized to a catechin content of about 15.0 w/w % or greater, based on total weight of the extract, and

wherein the composition inhibits oxidation-induced DNA damage.

2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the composition is a dietary supplement.

3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the composition is a beverage.

4. The method according to claim 1 wherein the composition is a food composition.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the composition is a dietary supplement.
