Abstract

In an example, there is disclosed a system and method for providing a service-oriented architecture, including request/response, over a publish/subscribe framework. In one embodiment, a system is disclosed for adding layers upon a publish/subscribe messaging framework for sophisticated messaging such as point-to-point (request/response) and the ability to query for available services, in a reliable, scalable manner.

Claims (51)

1. A non-transitory, computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed, instruct a processor to at least:

receive, from a client, a first message to subscribe to a response topic of a domain, the domain being at least one of device maintenance, malware, or network status;

receive, from a domain master, a second message to subscribe to a service topic;

receive a third message directed to the service topic, the third message including the response topic;

pass the third message to the domain master, based at least in part on a check that the domain master subscribed to the service topic;

receive a response message directed to the response topic; and

pass the response message to the client, based at least in part on a check that the client subscribed to the response topic.

2. The computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the service topic is for a reputation service, the third message requests a reputation, and the response message indicates the reputation.

3. The computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to:

receive a request for a service; and

based at least in part on a determination that the service is available on a network, parse routing information to a device that provides the service.

4. The computer-readable medium of claim 3 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to:

determine a physical proximity of the device to the client or a latency between the client and the device.

5. The computer-readable medium of claim 3 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to:

forward an identification of the device to the client.

6. The computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to:

receive a request for a service; and

based at least in part on a determination that the service is not available on a network, send a message or publishing a notification that the service is not available.

7. An apparatus, comprising:

a network interface to

receive, from a client, a first message to subscribe to a response topic,

receive, from a domain master, a second message to subscribe to a service topic of a domain, the domain being at least one of device maintenance, malware, or network status,

receive a third message directed to the service topic, the third message including the response topic, and

receive a response message directed to the response topic; and

a processor configured to perform a check that the domain master subscribed to the service topic, wherein the network interface is to pass the third message to the domain master, based at least in part on the check that the domain master subscribed to the service topic,

the processor further is configured to perform a check that the client subscribed to the response topic, and the network interface is to pass the response message to the client, based at least in part on the check that the client subscribed to the response topic.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the service topic is for a reputation service, the third message requests a reputation, and the response message indicates the reputation.

9. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein

the network interface is to receive a request for a service, and

the processor further is configured to parse routing information to a device that provides the service, based at least in part on a determination that the service is available on a network.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the processor further is configured to determine a physical proximity of the device to the client or a latency between the client and the device.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the network interface forwards an identification of the device to the client.

12. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein

the network interface is to receive a request for a service, the processor further is configured to perform a determination that the service is not available on a network, and

the network interface is to send a message or publish a notification that the service is not available, based at least in part on the determination.

13. A method, comprising:

receiving, from a client, a first message to subscribe to a response topic;

receiving, from a domain master, a second message to subscribe to a service topic of a domain, the domain being at least one of device maintenance, malware, or network status;

receiving a third message directed to the service topic, the third message including the response topic;

passing the third message to the domain master, based at least in part on a check that the domain master subscribed to the service topic;

receiving a response message directed to the response topic; and

passing the response message to the client, based at least in part on a check that the client subscribed to the response topic.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the service topic is for a reputation service, the third message requests a reputation, and the response message indicates the reputation.

15. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

receiving a request for a service; and

based at least in part on a determination that the service is available on a network, parsing routing information to a device that provides the service.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

determining a physical proximity of the device to the client or a latency between the client and the device.

17. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

receiving a request for a service; and

based at least in part on a determination that the service is not available on a network, sending a message or publishing a notification that the service is not available.
