Abstract

Computer-implemented design tool functions are described herein for automatically performing edits across different portions of one or more design layouts. According to an example, a method includes causing a display device to display a design interface used to edit a design layout, which includes at least a first frame and a second frame. The method includes receiving first input to initiate a multi-edit mode in the design interface and receiving second input to perform a first operation to edit a first node in the first frame. The method further includes identifying, based at least in part on the second input, a second node in the second frame and corresponding to the first node in the first frame. In this example, the method includes performing, based at least in part on the second input, the first operation to edit the first node in the first frame and a second operation to edit the second node in the second frame.

Claims (73)

1. A method comprising:

causing a display device to display:

a design interface used to edit design layouts, and

within the design interface, a particular design layout defined in at least one document, wherein the particular design layout includes at least:

a first node defined by first data located at a first location within the at least one document, and

a second node defined by second data located at a second location within the at least one document,

wherein the first location is different from the second location;

storing data for determining that the second node corresponds to the first node, wherein the data includes first data about the first node and second data about the second node;

after storing the data:

receiving input that selects the first node, and

receiving operation input to perform a first operation to edit the first node;

responsive to receiving the operation input, automatically selecting the second

node, as a node that corresponds to

the first node;

wherein the second node is automatically selected based on the first data and the second data indicating that the second node shares a characteristic with the first node; and

performing, based at least in part on the operation input:

the first operation to edit the first node, and

a second operation to edit the second node,

wherein the second operation to edit causes a same type of change to the second node as

the first operation to edit causes to the first node.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first operation to edit is at least one of:

a modification to one or more of a shape, size, color, or style of the first node;

a modification to a position of the first node with respect to a first frame that includes the first node; or

a duplication of at least a portion of the first node and placement of the duplicated at least a portion at a position with respect to the first frame.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic is at least one of:

the first node being at a first position relative to a first frame that includes the first node, the second node being at a second position relative to a second frame that includes the second node, and the first position corresponding with the second position;

the first node and the second node having one or more of corresponding identifiers, corresponding order characteristics, or corresponding hierarchy characteristics;

the first node and the second node including, at least in part, matching content;

the first node and the second node including, at least in part, common edit history; or

the first node and the second node including, at least in part, common duplication history.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising causing the display device to display the design interface including an indicator that a multi-edit mode is activated to edit together the first node and the second node.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the indicator includes a match count of a number of other nodes to be edited together in the multi-edit mode.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising causing the display device to display the design interface including a first frame with the first operation performed on the first node and a second frame with a second operation performed on the second node.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a selection input, wherein the selection input includes a selection of the first node and a selection of a multi-edit mode command to edit the first node and the second node together.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein a first frame including the first node is on a first page or document, and a second frame including the second node is on a second page or document that is different from the first page or document.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first node is within a field-of-view of the design interface.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the second node is outside the field-of-view of the design interface.

11. One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform functions comprising:

causing a display device to display:

a design interface used to edit design layouts, and

within the design interface, a particular design layout defined in at least one document, wherein the particular design layout includes at least:

a first node defined by first data located at a first location within the at least one document, and

a second node defined by second data located at a second location within the at least one document,

wherein the first location is different from the second location;

storing data for determining that the second node corresponds to the first node, wherein the data includes first data about the first node and second data about the second node;

after storing the data:

receiving input that selects the first node, and

receiving operation input to perform a first operation to edit the first node;

responsive to receiving the operation input, automatically selecting the second node, as a node that corresponds to the first node;

wherein the second node is automatically selected based on the first data and the second data indicating that the second node shares a characteristic with the first node; and

performing, based at least in part on the operation input:

the first operation to edit the first node, and

a second operation to edit the second node,

wherein the second operation to edit causes a same type of change to the second node as

the first operation to edit causes to the first node.

12. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage

medium of claim 11 , wherein the first operation to edit is at least one of:

a modification to one or more of a shape, size, color, or style of the first node;

a modification to a position of the first node with respect to a first frame that includes the first node; or

a duplication of at least a portion of the first node and placement of the duplicated at least a portion at a position with respect to the first frame.

13. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the characteristic is at least one of:

the first node being at a first position relative to a first frame that includes the first node, the second node being at a second position relative to a second frame that includes the second node, and the first position corresponding with the second position;

the first node and the second node having one or more of corresponding identifiers, corresponding order characteristics, or corresponding hierarchy characteristics;

the first node and the second node including, at least in part, matching content;

the first node and the second node including, at least in part, common edit history; or

the first node and the second node including, at least in part, common duplication history.

14. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the functions further include causing the display device to display the design interface including an indicator that a multi-edit mode is activated to edit together the first node and the second node.

15. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the indicator includes a match count of a number of other nodes to be edited together in the multi-edit mode.

16. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the functions further include causing the display device to display the design interface including a first frame with the first operation performed on the first node and a second frame with a second operation performed on the second node.

17. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the functions further include receiving a selection input, wherein the selection input includes a selection of the first node and a selection of a multi-edit mode command to edit the first node and the second node together.

18. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein a first frame including the first node is on a first page or document, and a second frame including the second node is on a second page or document that is different from the first page or document.
