Abstract

A monitoring system includes a communications circuit and an analysis circuit where the communications circuit is configured to receive image data of a user from a social media system, the image data comprising a plurality of images of a smile of the user undergoing an orthodontic treatment plan configured to move one or more teeth of the user. The analysis circuit is configured to determine a smile characteristic of the user based on the plurality of images. The communication circuit communicates an output comprising the smile characteristic to at least one of a user device associated with the user and an aligner fabrication computer system.

Claims (36)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a communications circuit, image data of a user from a social media system, the image data comprising a plurality of images of a smile of the user undergoing an orthodontic treatment plan configured to move one or more teeth of the user;

determining, by an analysis circuit, a smile characteristic of the user based on the plurality of images; and

communicating, by the communications circuit, an output comprising the smile characteristic to at least one of a user device associated with the user and an aligner fabrication computer system.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the communications circuit, image data of the user from a plurality of social media systems where the user maintains a social media account.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the image data comprises a first image of the user taken at a first time and a second image of the user taken at a second time, the second time being later than the first time.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the first time corresponds with a first position of the teeth of the user according to the orthodontic treatment plan, and the second time corresponds with a second position of the teeth of the user according to the orthodontic treatment plan.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

identifying, by the analysis circuit, a first smile characteristic of the user in the first image; and

identifying, by the analysis circuit, a second smile characteristic of the user in the second image;

wherein the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic comprise at least one of a smile width, a smile height, and an amount of teeth visible.

6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

comparing, by the analysis circuit, the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic; and

determining, by the analysis circuit, a difference between the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the output indicates the difference.

8 . A system comprising:

a communications circuit configured to receive image data of a user from a social media system, the image data comprising a plurality of images of a smile of the user undergoing an orthodontic treatment plan configured to move one or more teeth of the user; and

an analysis circuit configured to determine a smile characteristic of the user based on the plurality of images;

wherein the communications circuit is configured to communicate an output comprising the smile characteristic to at least one of a user device associated with the user and an aligner fabrication computer system.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communications circuit is further configured to receive image data of the user from a plurality of social media systems where the user maintains a social media account.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the image data comprises a first image of the user taken at a first time and a second image of the user taken at a second time, the second time being later than the first time.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the first time corresponds with a first position of the teeth of the user according to the orthodontic treatment plan, and the second time corresponds with a second position of the teeth of the user according to the orthodontic treatment plan.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the analysis circuit is further configured to identify a first smile characteristic of the user in the first image, and identify a second smile characteristic of the user in the second image, wherein the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic comprise at least one of a smile width, a smile height, and an amount of teeth visible.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the analysis circuit is further configured to compare the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic, and determine a difference between the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the output indicates the difference.

15 . A system comprising:

a processor and a memory having computer-executable instructions embodied therein that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

request access to a social media account of a user;

receive, in response to the user authorizing access to the social media account, image data of the user from the social media account, the image data comprising a plurality of images of a smile of the user undergoing an orthodontic treatment plan configured to move one or more teeth of the user;

determine a smile characteristic of the user based on the plurality of images; and

notify the user of the smile characteristic via a display device.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the image data is received from a plurality of social media accounts associated with the user.

17 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the image data comprises a first image of the user taken at a first time and a second image of the user taken at a second time, the second time being later than the first time.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the first time corresponds with a first position of the teeth of the user according to the orthodontic treatment plan, and the second time corresponds with a second position of the teeth of the user according to the orthodontic treatment plan.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to identify a first smile characteristic of the user in the first image, and identify a second smile characteristic of the user in the second image, wherein the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic comprise at least one of a smile width, a smile height, or an amount of teeth visible.

20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to compare the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic, and determine a difference between the first smile characteristic and the second smile characteristic.
