Abstract

Prosthesis devices can include sockets having adjustable features. In one example, a socket includes one or more panels that can move outwardly or inwardly relative to a receptacle portion of the socket. The panels can be moved by tightening a tensioning line.

Claims (53)

1. A kit for use in the manufacture of a prosthetic socket, the kit comprising:

a tensioning line;

one or more guide members for directing the tensioning line;

a tightening mechanism configured to be coupled with the tensioning line; and

one or more of instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket using the tensioning line, the one or more guide members, and the tightening mechanism or directions for accessing instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket using the tensioning line, the one or more guide members, and the tightening mechanism.

2. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the kit further comprises one or more fasteners.

3. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the tightening mechanism comprises an actuator comprising at least one of a knob, a lever, or a button.

4. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket comprise directions to:

mount the one or more guide members on a receptacle portion of a socket.

5. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the tightening mechanism comprises a spool, and wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket comprise directions to:

couple at least one end of the tensioning line to the spool such that the tightening mechanism is configured to permit the spool to wind or unwind the tensioning line about the spool to increase or decrease tension in the tensioning line; and

mount the tightening mechanism on a receptacle portion of a socket.

6. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket comprise directions to:

mount the tensioning line to an exterior surface of a receptacle portion of a socket.

7. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket comprise directions to:

form or obtain a socket, wherein the socket comprises a compression region.

8. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket comprise directions to:

form or obtain a socket, wherein the socket comprises one or more gaps between portions of the receptacle portion.

9. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket comprise directions to:

form or obtain a socket, wherein the socket comprises one or more ports in the receptacle portion, wherein one or more panels are disposed in the one or more ports, the one or more panels being configured to move relative to the receptacle portion of the socket.

10. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the tensioning line is configured to apply a compressive force on, within, or around the adjustable prosthetic socket.

11. A kit for use in the manufacture of a prosthetic socket, the kit comprising:

a tensioning line;

one or more guide members for directing the tensioning line;

a tightening mechanism comprising a spool and being configured to be coupled with the tensioning line; and

one or more of instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket using the tensioning line, the one or more guide members, and the tightening mechanism or directions for accessing instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket using the tensioning line, the one or more guide members, and the tightening mechanism,

wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket comprise directions to:

mount the one or more guide members on a receptacle portion of a socket;

mount the tightening mechanism on the receptacle portion; and

mount the tensioning line to an exterior surface of the receptacle portion.

12. The kit of claim 11 , wherein the kit further comprises one or more fasteners.

13. The kit of claim 11 , wherein the tightening mechanism comprises an actuator comprising at least one of a knob, a lever, or a button.

14. The kit of claim 11 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket further comprise directions to:

couple at least one end of the tensioning line to the spool such that the tightening mechanism is configured to permit the spool to wind or unwind the tensioning line about the spool to increase or decrease tension in the tensioning line.

15. The kit of claim 11 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket further comprise directions to:

form or obtain a socket, wherein the socket comprises a compression region.

16. The kit of claim 11 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket further comprise directions to:

form or obtain a socket, wherein the socket comprises one or more gaps between portions of the receptacle portion.

17. The kit of claim 11 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket further comprise directions to:

form or obtain a socket, wherein the socket comprises one or more ports in the receptacle portion, wherein one or more panels are disposed in the one or more ports, the one or more panels being configured to move relative to the receptacle portion of the socket.

18. The kit of claim 11 , wherein the tensioning line is configured to apply a compressive force on, within, or around the adjustable prosthetic socket.

19. A kit for use in the manufacture of a prosthetic socket, the kit comprising:

a tensioning line;

one or more guide members for directing the tensioning line;

a tightening mechanism comprising a spool and being configured to be coupled with the tensioning line; and

one or more of instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket using the tensioning line, the one or more guide members, and the tightening mechanism or directions for accessing instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket using the tensioning line, the one or more guide members, and the tightening mechanism,

wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket comprise directions to:

form or obtain a socket comprising a receptacle portion;

mount the one or more guide members on the receptacle portion;

mount the tightening mechanism on the receptacle portion; and

mount the tensioning line to an exterior surface of the receptacle portion.

20. The kit of claim 19 , wherein the instructions for creating an adjustable prosthetic socket further comprise directions to:

couple at least one end of the tensioning line to the spool such that the tightening mechanism is configured to permit the spool to wind or unwind the tensioning line about the spool to increase or decrease tension in the tensioning line.
