Abstract

A neural analysis and treatment system includes a computing device with a memory for storing an application that is executable on a processor to receive amplitude-integrated electroencephalography (aEEG) and range-EEG (rEEG) measurements associated with a patient. The systems determine a spectral edge frequency (SEF) measurement from the received EEG measurements, and determine one or more neural characteristics of the patient according to the determined SEF, aEEG, and rEEG measurements. These neural characteristics may then be used to identify and implement an appropriate therapeutic treatment.

Claims (42)

1 . A neural analysis and treatment system comprising:

a computing device having at least one processor and at least one computer-readable medium, the at least one computer-readable medium including instructions executable by the at least one processor;

one or more electrodes configured to measure electroencephalography (EEG) data of a patient; and

a somatosensory stimulus device configured to provide somatosensory stimuli to the patient,

wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

generate a control signal to the somatosensory stimulus device to provide the somatosensory stimuli to the patient,

receive diagnostic EEG data of the patient from the one or more electrodes prior to, during, and after generating the control signal to the somatosensory stimulus device to provide the somatosensory stimuli to the patient,

generate diagnostic spectral feature information from the received diagnostic EEG data; and

develop a treatment plan based on the diagnostic spectral feature information, wherein the treatment plan entrains electrophysiological development in a brain of the patient.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the diagnostic EEG data includes raw EEG data, amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) data, range EEG (r-EEG) data, or a combination thereof.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the diagnostic spectral feature information includes a spectral edge frequency (SEF) modulation of an EEG spectra of the received diagnostic EEG data, an aEEG modulation of the EEG spectra, a rEEG modulation of the EEG spectra, a SEF asymmetry of the EEG spectra, an aEEG asymmetry of the EEG spectra, a rEEG asymmetry of the EEG spectra, or a combination thereof.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the treatment plan entrains neurostructural development in the brain of the patient.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the neurostructural development in the brain of the patient includes development of cortical connections in the brain of the patient.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the treatment plan includes using the somatosensory stimulus device to provide the somatosensory stimuli to the patient.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the at least one processor to:

generate a control signal to the somatosensory stimulus device to perform the treatment plan on the patient;

receive post-treatment EEG data of the patient from the one or more electrodes after the treatment plan has been performed;

generate post-treatment spectral feature information from the received post-treatment EEG data; and

determine an electrophysiological development level of the brain of the patient using the diagnostic spectral feature information and the post-treatment spectral feature information.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the post-treatment EEG data includes raw EEG data, amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) data, range EEG (r-EEG) data, or a combination thereof.

The system of claim 7 , wherein the post-treatment spectral feature information includes a spectral edge frequency (SEF) modulation of an EEG spectra of the received diagnostic EEG data, an aEEG modulation of the EEG spectra, a rEEG modulation of the EEG spectra, a SEF asymmetry of the EEG spectra, an aEEG asymmetry of the EEG spectra, a rEEG asymmetry of the EEG spectra, or a combination thereof.

10 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the electrophysiological development level of the brain of the patient includes a quantified cortical activity of the patient.

11 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the electrophysiological development level of the brain of the patient includes a quantified cortical adaptation of the patient.

12 . A method for neural analysis and treatment plan development for providing neurological entrainment to a patient, using a neural treatment and analysis system including one or more electrodes, a somatosensory stimulus device, and a computing device having at least one processor and at least one computer-readable medium, the at least one computer-readable medium including instructions executable by the at least one processor, the method comprising:

controlling, via the computing device, the somatosensory stimulus device to provide somatosensory stimuli to the patient;

generating, via the one or more electrodes, diagnostic electroencephalography (EEG) data of the patient prior to, during, and after controlling the somatosensory stimulus device to provide the somatosensory stimuli to the patient;

receiving, at the at least one processor, the diagnostic EEG data of the patient from the one or more electrodes;

generating, via the computing device, diagnostic spectral feature information from the received diagnostic EEG data; and

developing, via the computing device, one or more treatment plans based on the diagnostic spectral feature information, wherein the one or more treatment plans entrain electrophysiological development in a brain of the patient.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the diagnostic EEG data includes raw EEG data, amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) data, range EEG (r-EEG) data, or a combination thereof.

The method of claim 12 , wherein the diagnostic spectral feature information includes a spectral edge frequency (SEF) modulation of an EEG spectra of the received diagnostic EEG data, an aEEG modulation of the EEG spectra, a rEEG modulation of the EEG spectra, a SEF asymmetry of the EEG spectra, an aEEG asymmetry of the EEG spectra, a rEEG asymmetry of the EEG spectra, or a combination thereof.

15 . The method of claim 12 further comprising:

controlling, via the computing device, the somatosensory stimulus device to perform the one or more treatment plans on the patient;

generating, via the one or more electrodes, post-treatment EEG data of the patient after the one or more treatment plans have been performed;

receiving, at the at least one processor, the post-treatment EEG data of the patient from the one or more electrodes;

generating, via the computing device, post-treatment spectral feature information from the received post-treatment EEG data; and

determining, via the computing device, an electrophysiological development level of the brain of the patient using the diagnostic spectral feature information and the post-treatment spectral feature information.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the electrophysiological development level of the brain of the patient includes a quantified cortical adaptation of the patient.

17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the post-treatment EEG data includes raw EEG data, amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) data, range EEG (r-EEG) data, or a combination thereof.

The method of claim 15 , wherein the post-treatment spectral feature information includes a spectral edge frequency (SEF) modulation of an EEG spectra of the received diagnostic EEG data, an aEEG modulation of the EEG spectra, a rEEG modulation of the EEG spectra, a SEF asymmetry of the EEG spectra, an aEEG asymmetry of the EEG spectra, a rEEG asymmetry of the EEG spectra, or a combination thereof.

19 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the electrophysiological development level of the brain of the patient includes a quantified cortical adaptation of the patient.

20 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the electrophysiological development level includes an electrocortical activity of the brain of the patient.
