Abstract

Example implementations include a method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium comprising monitoring, by a control panel, an ambient noise via one or more microphones in the control panel. The implementations further include determining, by the control panel, whether the ambient noise includes an acoustic signature associated with a security event. In some implementations, the security event may comprise a glass break event. In some implementations, the acoustic signature may comprise a first sound followed by subsequent sounds. The first sound may comprise a thump sound, and the subsequent sounds may comprise crashing sounds.

Claims (29)

1. A method comprising:

monitoring, by a control panel, an ambient noise via one or more microphones in the control panel;

detecting, by the control panel, a glass break event in response to determining that the ambient noise includes an acoustic signature associated with the glass break event, comprising:

detecting a first sound by the one or more microphones while the control panel is operating in a low-power sleep mode;

waking up from the low-power sleep mode in response to determining that the first sound has a first frequency associated with an object impacting glass; and

detecting, by the one or more microphones, one or more subsequent sounds having a second frequency associated with glass breaking into multiple pieces or glass falling onto a surface; and

at least one of initiating an alarm or sending a notification by the control panel in response to detecting the glass break event.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the ambient noise includes the acoustic signature associated with the glass break event comprises executing an application locally at the control panel, wherein the application is configured to use the one or more microphones in the control panel to detect the glass break event by identifying a sequence of sounds corresponding to the acoustic signature of the glass break event.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the ambient noise includes the acoustic signature associated with the glass break event comprises executing an artificial intelligence module locally at the control panel.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second security event comprises a motion detected based on a wired or wireless signal received by the control panel from a sensor.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the control panel comprises at least one camera, wherein the second security event comprises a motion detected using the at least one camera of the control panel.

6. An apparatus comprising:

a memory; and

a processor communicatively coupled with the memory and configured to:

monitor, by a control panel, an ambient noise via one or more microphones in the control panel;

detect, by the control panel, a glass break event in response to determining that the ambient noise includes an acoustic signature associated with the glass break event, comprising:

detect a first sound by the one or more microphones while the control panel is operating in a low-power sleep mode;

wake up from the low-power sleep mode in response to determining that the first sound has a first frequency associated with an object impacting glass; and

detect, by the one or more microphones, one or more subsequent sounds having a second frequency associated with glass breaking into multiple pieces or glass falling onto a surface; and

at least one of initiate an alarm or send a notification by the control panel in response to detecting the glass break event.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein to determine whether the ambient noise includes the acoustic signature associated with the glass break event, the processor is further configured to execute an application locally at the control panel, wherein the application is configured to use the one or more microphones in the control panel to detect the glass break event by identifying a sequence of sounds corresponding to the acoustic signature of the glass break event.

8. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein to determine whether the ambient noise includes the acoustic signature associated with the glass break event, the processor is further configured to execute an artificial intelligence module locally at the control panel.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions executable by a processor that, when executed, cause to the processor to:

monitor, by a control panel, an ambient noise via one or more microphones in the control panel;

detect, by the control panel, a glass break event in response to determining that the ambient noise includes an acoustic signature associated with the glass break event comprising;

detect a first sound by the one or more microphones while the control panel is operating in a low-power sleep mode;

wake up from the low-power sleep mode in response to determining that the first sound has a first frequency associated with an object impacting glass; and

detect, by the one or more microphones, one or more subsequent sounds having a second frequency associated with glass breaking into multiple pieces or glass falling onto a surface; and

at least one of initiate an alarm or send a notification by the control panel in response to detecting the glass break event.
