Abstract

A tubular element for an aerosol-generating device, the tubular element including: a first longitudinal passageway; and a porous medium loaded with gel, the gel including an active agent, the porous medium loaded with gel being crimped, the gel including an active agent includes an aerosol former, the gel including the active agent includes between 60 percent and 95 percent by weight of glycerol, the active agent includes nicotine, and the porous medium includes cotton. An aerosol-generating article including a tubular element, and a method of manufacturing a tubular element, are also provided.

Claims (33)

1. A tubular element for an aerosol-generating device, the tubular element comprising:

a first longitudinal passageway; and

a porous medium preloaded with gel, the gel comprising an active agent,

wherein the porous medium preloaded with gel comprises a crimped and gathered sheet material,

wherein the gel comprises an active agent comprising an aerosol former,

wherein the gel comprising the active agent further comprises between 60 percent and 95 percent by weight of glycerol,

wherein the gel further comprises a biopolymer gelling agent,

wherein the active agent comprises nicotine,

wherein the porous medium comprises cotton, and

wherein the gel has a viscosity of 10,000 Pascal-second to 1,000 Pascal-second.

2. The tubular element according to claim 1 , wherein the porous medium further comprises viscose, polylactic acid, cellulose acetate, or combinations thereof.

3. The tubular element according to claim 1 , wherein the porous medium further comprises a thread.

4. The tubular element according to claim 1 , wherein the porous medium further comprises a woven material, a non-woven material, an extruded material, or any combinations thereof.

5. The tubular element according to claim 1 , further comprising a susceptor.

6. The tubular element according to claim 1 , further comprising a wrapper.

7. The tubular element according to claim 6 , wherein the wrapper comprises paper.

8. The tubular element according to claim 7 , wherein the wrapper is hydrophobic.

9. The tubular element according to claim 8 , wherein the wrapper further comprises hydrophobic groups covalently bonded to at least one surface of the wrapper.

10. The tubular element according to claim 5 , wherein the susceptor is positioned longitudinally with the tubular element.

11. The tubular element according to claim 10 , further comprising a second tubular element.

12. The tubular element according to claim 11 , wherein the second tubular element comprises a wrapper.

13. An aerosol-generating article comprising a tubular element according to claim 1 .

14. A method of manufacturing a tubular element according to claim 1 , the method comprising the steps of:

dispensing a porous medium preloaded with gel onto a web of wrapping material;

dispensing a second tubular element onto the porous medium preloaded with gel on the web of wrapping material; and

wrapping the web of wrapping material around the porous medium loaded with gel and a second tubular element to form a composite structure of porous medium loaded with gel and the second tubular element,

wherein the porous medium loaded with gel comprises a crimped and gathered sheet material,

wherein the gel comprises an active agent comprising an aerosol former,

wherein the gel comprising the active agent further comprises between 60 percent and 95 percent by weight of glycerol,

wherein the active agent comprises nicotine, and

wherein the porous medium comprises cotton.

15. The tubular element according to claim 1 , wherein the biopolymer gelling agent comprises at least one of: gellan gum, xanthan gum, alginates, agar, and guar gum.

16. The tubular element according to claim 1 , wherein the biopolymer gelling agent is agar.
