Abstract

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to Random Access Channel (RACH) optimization and Automatic Neighbor Relation (ANR) use cases and requirements for 5G networks. For example, embodiments disclosed herein automatically configure RACH parameters and neighbor relations for 5G networks that can generate biggest saving in resource utilization for mobile operators. The RACH optimization disclosed herein can automatically configure the RACH parameters in a cell to achieve the optimal RACH performance by reducing the network access and handoff time, and minimize the failures. The Automatic Neighbor Relation (ANR) management disclosed herein can automatically create and update the neighbor relations that can generate biggest saving in resource utilization for mobile operators.

Claims (46)

1. A method for implementing a Random Access Channel (RACH) management and control function in a wireless network, the method comprising:

initiating, by one or more processors, one or more user equipment (UEs) to implement a RACH optimization function;

setting, by the one or more processors, a range or a value for a RACH parameter for a plurality of wireless cells servicing the one or more UEs;

collecting, by the one or more processors, performance measurements of the one or more UEs;

comparing, by the one or more processors, the performance measurements with the range or the value for the RACH parameter; and

taking, by the one or more processors, one or more actions to control the plurality of wireless cells in response to the comparing,

wherein the one or more actions comprise disabling the RACH optimization function and re-configuring the RACH parameter for wireless cells from among the plurality of wireless cells with the performance measurements deemed to improve RACH performance.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performance measurements comprise:

a number of preambles sent by the one or more UEs to achieve synchronization; or

a distribution of time needed for the one or more UEs to achieve the synchronization.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the collecting comprises:

receiving a plurality of counter values from the one or more UEs.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of counter values comprises:

a plurality of PREAMBLE_TRANSMISSION_COUNTER values.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the taking comprises:

determining the one or more actions upon detecting the performance measurements are not within the range or are not equal to the value for the RACH parameter.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more actions comprise:

updating the one or more UEs that implement the RACH optimization function; or

updating the range or the value for the RACH parameter.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the RACH parameter comprises:

a RACH configuration;

a RACH preamble split;

a RACH back-off parameter value; or

a RACH transmission power control parameter.

8. A method for implementing a Random Access Channel RACH management and control function in a wireless network, the method comprising:

receiving, by one or more processors, one or more performance measurements associated with a RACH;

determining, by the one or more processors, that the performance measurements do not meet one or more targets; and

taking, by the one or more processors, one or more actions based on the determination,

wherein the one or more actions comprise disabling a RACH optimization function and re-configuring a RACH parameter for wireless cells from among a plurality of wireless cells with performance measurements deemed to improve RACH performance.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the performance measurements comprise:

a number of preambles sent by one or more user equipment (UEs) to achieve synchronization; or

a distribution of time needed for the one or more UEs to achieve the synchronization.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the receiving comprises:

receiving a plurality of counter values from one or more user equipment (UEs).

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of counter values comprises:

a plurality of PREAMBLE_TRANSMISSION_COUNTER values.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the determining comprises:

determining the one or more actions upon detecting the performance measurements do not meet the one or more targets.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the one or more actions further comprise:

updating one or more user equipment (UEs) that implement the RACH optimization function; or

updating a range or a value for the RACH parameter.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the RACH parameter comprises:

a RACH configuration;

a RACH preamble split;

a RACH back-off parameter value; or

a RACH transmission power control parameter.
