Abstract

An approach is described for a method for a radio access node (RAN) node in a fifth generation (5G) wireless communication or a new radio (NR) system that includes the following steps. The method includes generating a request for location information of a user equipment (UE). The method further includes transmitting the request to an access and mobility function (AMF). The method further includes receiving a response from the AMF, wherein the response comprises the location information of the UE.

Claims (31)

1. A method comprising:

generating a request for location information of a user equipment (UE), wherein the location information comprises a velocity and an altitude of the UE;

transmitting the request to an access and mobility function (AMF); and

receiving a response from the AMF, wherein the response comprises the location information of the UE,

wherein the request further comprises an instruction for a periodic update of the location information.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the location information further comprises one or more locations of the UE, a geographical area of the UE, a cell identifier of the UE, an internet protocol (IP) address of the UE, or a time parameter of the UE related to one of the one or more locations.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the one or more locations of the UE comprise a current location of the UE, a last known location of the UE, or an initial location of the UE.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request comprises identification information of the UE.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmitting and the receiving are based on a next generation application protocol (NGAP).

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising indicating that the request for the location information of the UE is not authorized.

7. A radio access network (RAN) node comprising:

radio front end circuitry; and

processor circuitry coupled to the radio front end circuitry, which are configured to:

generate a request for location information of a user equipment (UE), wherein the location information comprises a velocity and an altitude of the UE;

transmit the request to an access and mobility function (AMF); and

receive a response from the AMF, wherein the response comprises the location information of the UE,

wherein the request further comprises an instruction for a periodic update of the location information.

8. The RAN node of claim 7 , wherein the location information further comprises one or more locations of the UE, a geographical area of the UE, a cell identifier of the UE, an internet protocol (IP) address of the UE, or a time parameter of the UE related to one of the one or more locations.

9. The RAN node of claim 8 , wherein the one or more locations comprise a current location of the UE, a last known location of the UE, or an initial location of the UE.

10. The RAN node of claim 7 , wherein the request comprises identification information of the UE.

11. The RAN node of claim 7 , wherein the transmitting and the receiving are based on a next generation application protocol (NGAP).

12. The RAN node of claim 7 , wherein the response further indicates whether the RAN node is not authorized to request the location information of the UE.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable media comprising instructions to cause an electronic device, upon execution of the instructions by one or more processors of the electronic device, to perform one of more elements of a method, the method comprising:

generating a request for location information of a user equipment (UE), wherein the location information comprises a velocity and an altitude of the UE;

causing to transmit the request to an access and mobility function (AMF); and

causing to receive a response from the AMF, wherein the response comprises the location information of the UE,

wherein the request further comprises an instruction for a periodic update of the location information.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein the location information further comprises one or more locations of the UE, a geographical area of the UE, a cell identifier of the UE, an internet protocol (IP) address of the UE, or a time parameter of the UE related to one of the one or more locations.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 14 , wherein the one or more locations comprise a current location of the UE, a last known location of the UE, or an initial location of the UE.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein the causing to transmit and the causing to receive are based on a next generation application protocol (NGAP).

17. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein the response further indicates whether the non-transitory computer-readable media is not authorized to request the location information of the UE.
