Abstract

A network element for configuring a Remote Interference Monitoring Reference Signal (RIM-RS) is disclosed. The network element transmits RIM-RS resource configuration and Information of Things (IoT) measurement and reporting configuration information to a base station. The base station conducts the IoT measurement and ducting phenomenon detection according to the received configuration, and transmits the results to the network element. The base station determines the number of repetition and/or near-far indication based on the received information and transmits the number of repetition and near-far indication to the base station. The base station then transmits the RIM-RS according to the received repetition and near-far indication.

Claims (40)

1. A network element for configuring a remote interference management reference signal (RIM-RS) to be used by a base station, the network element comprising:

radio front end circuitry; and

processor circuitry, coupled to the radio front end circuitry, and configured to:

transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, a RIM-RS configuration that includes an event-triggered Internet of Things (IOT) measurement and reporting procedure to the base station;

receive an IoT measurement from the base station in accordance with the event-triggered IoT measurement and reporting procedure;

determine a repetition number based on the received IoT measurement; and

transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, the repetition number to the base station to enable the base station to transmit the RIM-RS configuration to a UE based on the repetition number.

2. The network element of claim 1 , wherein the processor circuitry is further configured to:

determine a near/far configuration based on the received IoT measurement; and

transmit the near/far configuration to the base station.

3. The network element of claim 1 , wherein the repetition number defines a number of times a transmission of the RIM-RS is repeated between the base station and the UE.

4. The network element of claim 2 , wherein the near/far configuration defines a manner in which the RIM-RS is to be transmitted to the UE so as to configure the UE for near or far interference measurement.

5. The network element of claim 2 , wherein the near/far configuration is carried by a relationship between two sections of consecutive RIM-RSs.

6. The network element of claim 5 , wherein the near/far configuration is represented by a cover code w=(w1, w2) multiplied with the RIM-RS.

7. The network element of claim 6 , wherein the cover code w=(1, 1) identifies a near RIM-RS, and the cover code w=(1,−1) identifies a far RIM-RS.

8. A network element for configuring a remote interference management reference signal (RIM-RS) to be used by a base station, the network element comprising:

radio front end circuitry; and

processor circuitry, coupled to the radio front end circuitry, configured to:

transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, a RIM-RS resource configuration that includes an event-triggered Internet of Things (IoT) measurement and reporting procedure to the base station;

receive, from the base station, an IoT measurement based on the event-triggered IoT measurement and reporting procedure;

determine, based on the received IoT measurement, whether to update the RIM-RS resource configuration of the base station; and

transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, an updated RIM-RS resource configuration to the base station based on the determination.

9. The network element of claim 8 , wherein the processor circuitry is further configured to transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, rules for determining repetition and near-far indication associated with the RIM-RS resource configuration.

10. The network element of claim 9 , wherein the processor circuitry is further configured to receive, from the base station, a determined number of repetitions and the near-far indication.

11. The network element of claim 10 , wherein the determining whether to update the RIM-RS resource configuration of the base station is further based on a received number of repetitions and the near-far indication.

12. The network element of claim 10 , wherein the determined number of repetitions and the near-far indication are determined based on a detection of a duct phenomenon.

13. The network element of claim 10 , wherein the near-far indication is represented by a cover code w=(w1, w2) multiplied with the RIM-RS.

14. The network element of claim 13 , wherein the cover code w=(1, 1) identifies a near RIM-RS, and the cover code w=(1,−1) identifies a far RIM-RS.

15. A method for configuring a remote interference management reference signal (RIM-RS) by a network element, the method comprising:

transmitting a RIM-RS configuration that includes an event-triggered Internet of Things (IoT) measurement and reporting procedure to a base station;

receiving, from the base station, an IOT measurement in accordance with the event-triggered IoT measurement and reporting procedure;

determine, based on the received IoT measurement, a number of repetitions to be implemented by the base station for interference management measurement; and

transmit, to the base station, the number of repetitions for interference management measurement.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

determining a near/far configuration based on the received IoT measurement; and

transmit the near/far configuration to the base station for interference management measurement.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the number of repetitions defines a number of times a transmission of the RIM-RS is repeated between the base station and a UE.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the near/far configuration defines a transmission power level for a UE based on its distance from the base station.

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the near/far configuration is carried by a relationship between two sections of consecutive reference signals.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the near/far configuration is represented by a cover code w having a first value in the first of the two sections, and a second value in the second of the two sections, the first and second values defining whether the RIM-RS is a near RIM-RS or a far RIM-RS.
