Abstract

A magnetic pump comprising: a pump body supporting an output shaft on a wet side of the pump and having an inlet and at least one outlet for pumped fluid; an input drive element on a dry side of the pump, at least one magnet for coupling the input and output shafts such that motion of the input shaft causes motion of the output shaft, a pressure containing structure mounted on the pump body for separating the dry and the wet sides, wherein the pump includes: one or more pathways through which pumped fluid can pass so as to lubricate one or more moving parts within the pressure containing structure, and a monitoring port/channel through which one or more properties of pumped fluid passing through the one or more pathways can be sensed.

Claims (22)

1. A magnetic pump comprising:

a pump body supporting an output shaft on a wet side of the pump and having an inlet and at least one outlet for pumped fluid;

an input drive element on a dry side of the pump,

at least one magnet for coupling the input drive element and output shaft such that motion of the input drive element causes motion of the output shaft,

a pressure containing structure mounted on the pump body for separating the dry and the wet sides, wherein the pump body includes a bush holder around the output shaft, wherein the bush holder is mounted on or connected to a pump casing, and,

wherein the pump further includes:

one or more pathways through which pumped fluid can pass so as to lubricate one or more moving parts within the pressure containing structure, and

a monitoring port through which one or more properties of pumped fluid passing through the one or more pathways can be non-intrusively sensed, wherein the monitoring port passes into the bush holder, wherein a pathway of the monitoring port bifurcates within the bush holder.

2. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein a pathway of the monitoring port extends from a radially inward position to a radially outward position.

3. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein a pathway of the monitoring port extends to an outer edge of the bush holder.

4. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein a pathway of the monitoring port is elongate in a radial direction of the bush holder.

5. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein at least part of the monitoring port is in an axial end face of the bush holder.

6. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein the monitoring port extends from adjacent to a pathway though which pumped fluid can pass to a location external to the pump.

7. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein the monitoring port includes a right angle turn.

8. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein the monitoring port is on an inlet side of the one or more pathways.

9. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein the monitoring port is on an outlet side of the one or more pathways.

10. The magnetic pump according to claim 8 , further comprising a second monitoring port on an outlet side of the one or more pathways.

11. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein the input drive element includes a drive shaft.

12. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one magnet includes at least one magnet on each of the input drive element and the output shaft.

13. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , further comprising a motor coupled to the input drive element.

14. The magnetic pump according to claim 1 , wherein the bush holder includes one or more pockets adjacent the monitoring port.

15. The magnetic pump according to claim 9 , further comprising a second monitoring port on an inlet side of the one or more pathways.
