Abstract

The present application relates to wireless devices, and more particularly to apparatus, systems, and methods for radio link monitoring beam management in 5G-New Radio (NR) for Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC). In one embodiment, a method for signal quality monitoring in a wireless system is disclosed, comprising: determining, by a user device, to connect to the wireless system in a high reliability mode, and determining, based on the determination to connect to the wireless system in the high reliability mode, to use, by the user device, a first pair of out-of-sync (OOS) and in-sync (IS) block error rate (BLER) threshold values and/or a first set of transmission parameters for radio link monitoring (RLM), rather than a second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values or a second set of transmission parameters that are configured for use in a non-high reliability mode.

Claims (49)

1. A method for signal quality monitoring in a wireless system, comprising:

determining, by a user device, to connect to the wireless system in a high reliability mode; and

determining, based on the determination to connect to the wireless system in the high reliability mode, to use, by the user device, a first pair of out-of-sync (OOS) and in-sync (IS) block error rate (BLER) threshold values or a first set of transmission parameters for radio link monitoring (RLM) rather than a second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values or a second set of transmission parameters, wherein the first set of transmission parameters are used for RLM monitoring and include at least one of: a) a reduced aggregation level; or (b) a reduced ratio of hypothetical energy to average energy levels as compared to the second set of transmission parameters, and wherein the second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values or the second set of transmission parameters are configured for use in a non-high reliability mode,

wherein the second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values differs from the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values, and

wherein a parameter of the second set of transmission parameters differs from a corresponding parameter of the first set of transmission parameters.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the user device, a radio link monitoring reference signal (RLM-RS);

evaluating, by the user device, the RLM-RS to determine a BLER value; and

determining the user device is OOS or experiencing radio link failure based on a comparison between the determined BLER value and the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the user device, a radio link monitoring reference signal (RLM-RS);

evaluating, by the user device, the RLM-RS to determine a BLER value using the first set of transmission parameters; and

determining the user device is OOS or experiencing radio link failure based on a comparison between the determined BLER value and the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values are used for RLM monitoring, and wherein the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values are lower than a second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values correspond to a lower signal to noise ratio (SNR) than the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values are determined based on reliability requirements associated with ultra-reliable low-latency communications.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first set of transmission parameters are used for RLM monitoring, and wherein the first set of transmission parameters are configured to increase a signal to noise ratio (SNR) as compared to a second set of transmission parameters.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values and the first set of transmission parameters are used for RLM monitoring.

9. A wireless device comprising:

an antenna;

a radio operably coupled to the antenna; and

a processor operably coupled to the radio; and

wherein the wireless device is configured to monitor signal quality in a wireless system, comprising:

determine, by a user device, to connect to the wireless system in a high reliability mode; and

determine, based on the determination to connect to the wireless system in the high reliability mode, to use, by the user device, a first pair of out-of-sync (OOS) and in-sync (IS) block error rate (BLER) threshold values or a first set of transmission parameters for radio link monitoring (RLM) rather than a second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values or a second set of transmission parameters, wherein the first set of transmission parameters are used for RLM monitoring and include at least one of: a) a reduced aggregation level; or (b) a reduced ratio of hypothetical energy to average energy levels as compared to the second set of transmission parameters, and wherein the second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values or the second set of transmission parameters are configured for use in a non-high reliability mode,

wherein the second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values differs from the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values, and

wherein a parameter of the second set of transmission parameters differs from a corresponding parameter of the first set of transmission parameters.

10. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the wireless device is further configured to:

receive, by the user device, a radio link monitoring reference signal (RLM-RS);

evaluate, by the user device, the RLM-RS to determine a BLER value; and

determine the user device is OOS or experiencing radio link failure based on a comparison between the determined BLER value and the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.

11. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the wireless device is further configured to:

receive, by the user device, a radio link monitoring reference signal (RLM-RS);

evaluate, by the user device, the RLM-RS to determine a BLER value using the first set of transmission parameters; and

determine the user device is OOS or experiencing radio link failure based on a comparison between the determined BLER value and the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.

12. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values are used for RLM monitoring, and wherein the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values are lower than a second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.

13. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values correspond to a lower signal to noise ratio (SNR) than the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.

14. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values are determined based on reliability requirements associated with ultra-reliable low-latency communications.

15. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the first set of transmission parameters are used for RLM monitoring, and wherein the first set of transmission parameters are configured to increase a signal to noise ratio (SNR) as compared to a second set of transmission parameters.

16. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values and the first set of transmission parameters are used for RLM monitoring.

17. A non-volatile computer-readable medium that stores instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processor of a device to:

determine, by a user device, to connect to a wireless system in a high reliability mode; and

determine, based on the determination to connect to the wireless system in the high reliability mode, to use, by the user device, a first pair of out-of-sync (OOS) and in-sync (IS) block error rate (BLER) threshold values or a first set of transmission parameters for radio link monitoring (RLM) rather than a second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values or a second set of transmission parameters, wherein the first set of transmission parameters are used for RLM monitoring and include at least one of: a) a reduced aggregation level; or (b) a reduced ratio of hypothetical energy to average energy levels as compared to the second set of transmission parameters, and wherein the second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values or the second set of transmission parameters are configured for use in a non-high reliability mode,

wherein the second pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values differs from the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values, and

wherein a parameter of the second set of transmission parameters differs from a corresponding parameter of the first set of transmission parameters.

18. The non-volatile computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

receive, by the user device, a radio link monitoring reference signal (RLM-RS);

evaluate, by the user device, the RLM-RS to determine a BLER value; and

determine the user device is OOS or experiencing radio link failure based on a comparison between the determined BLER value and the first pair of OOS and IS BLER threshold values.
