Abstract

A rare earth aluminate sintered compact including rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases and voids, wherein an absolute maximum length of 90% or more by number of rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases is in a range from 0.4 μm to 1.3 μm, and an absolute maximum length of 90% or more by number of voids is in a range from 0.1 μm to 1.2 μm.

Claims (19)

1. A rare earth aluminate sintered compact comprising a plurality of rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases and a plurality of voids, wherein

an absolute maximum length of 90% or more by number of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases is in a range from 0.4 μm to 1.3 μm, and

an absolute maximum length of 90% or more by number of the voids is in a range from 0.1 μm to 1.2 μm,

wherein a distance between two farthest points on a contour of one of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases or the voids included in a measurement range on a surface or cross section of the rare earth aluminate sintered compact is defined as the absolute maximum length of the one of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases or the voids.

2. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) image obtained by photographing the surface or the cross section of the rare earth aluminate sintered compact using a scanning electron microscope, a region having a surface area of 12096 μm 2 is set as the measurement range.

3. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein an absolute maximum length at a cumulative frequency of 50% in a number particle size distribution of the absolute maximum lengths of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases is in a range from 0.4 μm to 0.9 μm.

4. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , consisting of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases and the voids.

5. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein an absolute maximum length at a cumulative frequency of 50% in a number particle size distribution of the absolute maximum lengths of the voids is in a range from 0.3 μm to 0.8 μm.

6. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases have a composition represented by Formula (I):

(Ln 1 1-n Ce n ) 3 (Al 1-m M 1 m ) 5k O 12   (I)

in Formula (I), Ln 1 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Lu, Gd, and Tb; M 1 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ga and Sc; and m, n, and k satisfy 0≤m≤0.02, 0.002≤n≤0.017, and 0.95≤k≤1.05, respectively.

7. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases comprise Lu, and an absolute maximum length of at least one of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases is in a range from 0.4 μm to 2.3 μm.

8. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases comprise Lu, and an absolute maximum length of at least one of the voids is in a range from 0.1 μm to 2.3 μm.

9. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases comprise Y, and an absolute maximum length of at least one of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases is in a range from 0.4 μm to 2.1 μm.

10. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases comprise Y, and an absolute maximum length of at least one of the voids is in a range from 0.1 μm to 3.0 μm.

11. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases comprise Lu, and an absolute maximum length of each of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases is in a range from 0.4 μm to 2.3 μm.

12. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases comprise Lu, and an absolute maximum length of each of the voids is in a range from 0.1 μm to 2.3 μm.

13. The rare earth aluminate sintered compact according to claim 1 , wherein the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases comprise Y, and an absolute maximum length of each of the rare earth aluminate phosphor crystalline phases is in a range from 0.4 μm to 2.1 μm.
