Abstract

Processing user-triggered, broker-assisted workflows. A content management system is configured to host a hierarchy of content objects that are partitioned into two or more user contexts. A first workflow object is configured and then stored into a first one of the two or more user contexts. A computer-implemented service agent is configured to receive a workflow trigger from an event raised in a second one of the two or more user contexts. The computer-implemented service agent executes in the second one of the two or more user contexts while processing the first workflow object using permissions that are associated with the first one of the two or more user contexts. The computer-implemented service agent processes the workflow object in the context of the first one of the two or more user contexts. Results from execution of the workflow objects are provided to the process that raised the workflow trigger.

Claims (34)

1 . A method for implementing broker-assisted workflows, the method comprising:

configuring a content management system with a hierarchy of content objects that are partitioned into two or more user contexts;

configuring a first workflow object and storing it in a first user context of the two or more user contexts;

receiving, by a computer-implemented service agent, a workflow trigger from an event raised in a second user context of the two or more user contexts; and

executing the computer-implemented service agent in the second user context of the two or more user contexts to execute the first workflow object using permissions that are associated with first user context of the two or more user contexts.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, traversing, by the computer-implemented service agent, through further folders of the hierarchy of the content objects to identify a second workflow object.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein traversing through the further folders of the hierarchy of the content objects comprises traversing and into a third user context, different from the first user context and different from the second user context, to identify the second workflow object.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first workflow object is a script and wherein the second workflow object is executable code.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein executing of the first workflow object causes a further event to gather requested information from a third-party facility.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the third-party facility hosts a workflow object that is triggered to gather the requested information.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein execution of the first workflow object moves a file from the first one of the two or more user contexts to the second one of the two or more user contexts.

8 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon a sequence of instructions which, when stored in memory and executed by one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform a set of acts for implementing broker-assisted workflows, the set of acts comprising:

configuring a content management system with a hierarchy of content objects that are partitioned into two or more user contexts;

configuring a first workflow object and storing it in a first user context of the two or more user contexts;

receiving, by a computer-implemented service agent, a workflow trigger from an event raised in a second user context of the two or more user contexts; and

executing the computer-implemented service agent in the second user context of the two or more user contexts to execute the first workflow object using permissions that are associated with first user context of the two or more user contexts.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions which, when stored in memory and executed by the one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform acts of, traversing, by the computer-implemented service agent, through further folders of the hierarchy of the content objects to identify a second workflow object.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein traversing through the further folders of the hierarchy of the content objects comprises traversing and into a third user context, different from the first user context and different from the second user context, to identify the second workflow object.

11 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the first workflow object is a script and wherein the second workflow object is executable code.

12 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein executing of the first workflow object causes a further event to gather requested information from a third-party facility.

13 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the third-party facility hosts a workflow object that is triggered to gather the requested information.

14 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein execution of the first workflow object moves a file from the first one of the two or more user contexts to the second one of the two or more user contexts.

15 . A system for implementing broker-assisted workflows, the system comprising:

a storage medium having stored thereon a sequence of instructions; and

one or more processors that execute the sequence of instructions to cause the one or more processors to perform a set of acts, the set of acts comprising,

configuring a content management system with a hierarchy of content objects that are partitioned into two or more user contexts;

configuring a first workflow object and storing it in a first user context of the two or more user contexts;

receiving, by a computer-implemented service agent, a workflow trigger from an event raised in a second user context of the two or more user contexts; and

executing the computer-implemented service agent in the second user context of the two or more user contexts to execute the first workflow object using permissions that are associated with first user context of the two or more user contexts.

16 . The system of claim 15 , further comprising, traversing, by the computer-implemented service agent, through further folders of the hierarchy of the content objects to identify a second workflow object.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein traversing through the further folders of the hierarchy of the content objects comprises traversing and into a third user context, different from the first user context and different from the second user context, to identify the second workflow object.

18 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the first workflow object is a script and wherein the second workflow object is executable code.

19 . The system of claim 15 , wherein executing of the first workflow object causes a further event to gather requested information from a third-party facility.

20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the third-party facility hosts a workflow object that is triggered to gather the requested information.
