Abstract

Controller devices may be configured to automatically connect to a remote management server (e.g., a “cloud”-based management server), and may offload received data and analyses to the remote management server via wired or wireless communications. The controller devices may further communicate with the management server, user computing devices, and/or human machine interface devices, e.g., to provide remote access to the controller device, provide real-time information from the controller device, receive configurations/updates, provide interactive graphical user interfaces, and/or the like.

Claims (52)

1. A computer system comprising:

a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith; and

one or more processors configured to execute the program instructions to cause the computer system to:

establish secure communications with an industrial controller including a plurality of configurable input and output ports, wherein the industrial controller is remote from the computer system;

receive, via the secure communications, data associated with execution of a configuration by the industrial controller;

generate data useable for rendering a graphical user interface; and

receive, via the graphical user interface, a configuration of an alert, wherein the configuration of the alert includes an indication of data responsive to at least one of the plurality of configurable input and output ports of the industrial controller.

2. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the data comprises a parameter measurement.

3. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to execute the program instructions to further cause the computer system to:

apply the configuration of the alert to the data received via at least one of the plurality of configurable input and output ports of the industrial controller; and

in response to the data satisfying the configuration of the alert, generate a notification.

4. The computer system of claim 3 , wherein the configuration of the alert further includes an indication of a recipient, and wherein the one or more processors are configured to execute the program instructions to further cause the computer system to:

send the notification to the recipient.

5. The computer system of claim 3 , wherein the configuration of the alert further includes an indication of an action, and wherein the one or more processors are configured to execute the program instructions to further cause the computer system to:

cause the action to be taken.

6. The computer system of claim 3 , wherein the configuration of the alert further includes a threshold associated with the at least one of the plurality of configurable input and output ports of the industrial controller.

7. The computer system of claim 6 , wherein satisfying the configuration of the alert comprises the data responsive to the at least one of the plurality of configurable input and output ports satisfying the threshold.

8. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to execute the program instructions to further cause the computer system to:

receive, via the graphical user interface, a selection of a type of the alert prior to receiving the configuration of the alert.

9. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the secure communications with the industrial controller is established via a web server executed by the industrial controller.

10. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to execute the program instructions to further cause the computer system to:

receive, via a second graphical user interface, communications specifications associated with one or more of the plurality of configurable input and output ports;

generate the configuration based at least in part on the communications specifications; and

transmit, via the secure communications, the configuration to the industrial controller for execution by the industrial controller.

11. A computer-implemented method comprising:

by one or more processors executing program instructions:

establishing secure communications with an industrial controller including a plurality of configurable input and output ports, wherein the industrial controller is remote from the one or more processors;

receiving, via the secure communications, data associated with execution of a configuration by the industrial controller;

generating data useable for rendering a graphical user interface; and

receiving, via the graphical user interface, a configuration of an alert, wherein the configuration of the alert includes an indication of data responsive to at least one of the plurality of configurable input and output ports of the industrial controller.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the data comprises a parameter measurement.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 further comprising:

by the one or more processors executing program instructions:

applying the configuration of the alert to the data received via the at least one of the plurality of configurable input and output ports of the industrial controller; and

in response to the data satisfying the configuration of the alert, generating a notification.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein the configuration of the alert further includes an indication of a recipient, and wherein the computer-implemented method further comprises:

by the one or more processors executing program instructions:

sending the notification to the recipient.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein the configuration of the alert further includes an indication of an action, and wherein the computer-implemented method further comprises:

by the one or more processors executing program instructions:

causing the action to be taken.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein the configuration of the alert further includes a threshold associated with the at least one of the plurality of configurable input and output ports of the industrial controller.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein satisfying the configuration of the alert comprises the data responsive to the at least one of the plurality of configurable input and output ports satisfying the threshold.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 further comprising:

by the one or more processors executing program instructions:

receiving, via the graphical user interface, a selection of a type of the alert prior to receiving the configuration of the alert.

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the secure communications with the industrial controller is established via a web server executed by the industrial controller.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 further comprising:

by the one or more processors executing program instructions:

receiving, via a second graphical user interface, communications specifications associated with one or more of the plurality of configurable input and output ports;

generating the configuration based at least in part on the communications specifications; and

transmitting, via the secure communications, the configuration to the industrial controller for execution by the industrial controller.
