Abstract

The technology described herein relates to polarization adaptive wireless power transmission systems. In an implementation, a wireless power transmission system is described. The wireless power transmission system includes an antenna array and control circuitry operatively coupled to the antenna array. The control circuitry is configured to determine polarization information of a beacon signal received from a client device at multiple antennas of the antenna array. The beacon signal is transmitted by a client device in a wireless power delivery environment. The control circuitry is further configured to configure polarization information associated with each of the multiple antennas to match the polarization information determined at respective antennas of the multiple antennas. The present technology enables different wireless power receiver clients to have different polarizations. The wireless power transmission system can efficiently send power to the client devices by matching their polarization.

Claims (35)

1. A system comprising a controller configured to:

determine polarization data of a signal received at a plurality of antennas of an antenna array from a transmitting location at or proximate to a wireless device;

determine polarization information for at least two antennas of the antenna array to match the polarization data; and

configure, based on the polarization information, the at least two antennas to facilitate generation of a waveform for transmission in the opposite direction from which the signal was received.

2. The system of claim 1 further comprising means, operatively coupled to the controller, for data communication with the wireless device.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the wireless device is or includes an Internet of Things (IoT) device, and wherein the controller is further configured to:

cause the means for data communication to receive IoT data from the transmitting location; and

cause the IoT data to be stored in a memory storage device operably coupled to the controller.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the means for data communication is configured to receive the IoT data using one or more of: a Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Zigbee, connection.

5. The system of claim 3 , wherein the means for data communication is configured to receive the IoT data using a data carrier frequency including a base signal clock for clock synchronization.

6. The system of claim 3 , wherein the controller is further configured to cause the means for data communication to transmit the IoT data to another system positioned remotely from at least the means for data communication.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to:

generate the waveform; and

cause the at least two antennas to transmit, according to the polarization information, a responsive signal having the generated waveform to the transmitting location.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device includes, or is operatively coupled to, a wireless power receiver client operatively coupled to the wireless device, and wherein the controller is further configured to cause at least one antenna operatively coupled to the controller of the antenna array to establish a data connection with the wireless power receiver client.

9. The system of claim 8 further comprising the wireless power receiver client.

10. The system of claim 1 further comprising the antenna array coupled to the controller.

11. A method comprising:

determining, by a controller, polarization data of a signal received at a plurality of antennas of an antenna array from a transmitting location at or proximate to a wireless device;

determining, by the controller, polarization information for at least two antennas of the antenna array to match the polarization data; and

configuring, by the controller and based on the polarization information, the at least two antennas to facilitate generating a waveform for transmission in the opposite direction from which the signal was received.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wireless device is or includes an Internet of Things (IoT) device, the method further comprising receiving, by a data communication means, IoT data from the transmitting location, the method further comprising causing, by the controller, the IoT data to be stored in a memory storage device.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein receiving the IoT data comprises receiving the IoT data using one or more wireless communication protocols.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein receiving the IoT data comprises receiving the IoT data using a data carrier frequency including a base signal clock for clock synchronization.

15. The method of claim 12 further comprising transmitting, by the data communication means, the IoT data to another system positioned remotely from at least the data communication means.

The method of claim 11 , wherein the wireless device includes, or is operatively coupled to, a wireless power receiver client, the method further comprising establishing, using at least one antenna operatively coupled to the controller, a data connection with the wireless power receiver client.

18. One or more non-transitory computer readable media having stored thereon program instructions which, when executed by a computing device, cause a machine to:

determine polarization data of a signal received at a plurality of antennas of an antenna array;

determine polarization information for at least two antennas of the antenna array to match the polarization data; and

configure, based on the polarization information, the at least two antennas to facilitate generation of a waveform for transmission in the opposite direction from which the signal was received.
