Abstract

A system for asset failure and replacement management is disclosed. The system includes a communication interface and processor(s) configured to: receive an indication that the drone is part of a set of assets, wherein the set of assets are tasked with performing element(s) of task(s), and the set of assets comprises a plurality of drones; determine that at least one drone has experienced a failure; in response to a determination that the at least one drone has experienced the failure, update a plan to an updated plan to perform the task(s); and communicate, via the communication interface, information pertaining to the updated plan, wherein the information pertaining to the updated plan is communicated with at least one remaining drone of the set of assets.

Claims (85)

1 . A semi-autonomous drone, comprising:

a communication interface; and

one or more processors coupled to the communication interface and configured to:

receive, via the communication interface, an indication that the drone is part of a set of assets, wherein the set of assets are tasked with performing one or more tasks in accordance with a plan, wherein the set of assets comprises a plurality of drones, and wherein the plan includes a topographical model of a geographic location for performing the one or more tasks;

in response to determining to partition the set of assets to perform at least a first task of the one or more tasks:

determine a first partition of the set of assets, wherein the first partitions comprises a first plurality of assets of the set of assets;

cause determination of a first partition leader for the first partition, wherein the first partition leader is a first asset of the first plurality of assets; and

communicate, via the communication interface and to the first partition leader, an instruction to implement at least the first task;

during performance of the one or more tasks by the set of assets, receive feedback from at least one asset of the set of assets, wherein the feedback includes updated topographical information associated with the geographic location and obtained during the performance of the one or more tasks;

determine that at least one drone of the set of assets has experienced an asset failure;

in response to determining that the at least one drone has experienced the asset failure, determine that the asset failure impacts performance of the one or more tasks;

in response to determining that the asset failure impacts the performance of the one or more tasks:

update the topographical model of the geographic location to an updated topographical model of the geographic location based on the received updated topographical information; and

based at least in part on the updated topographical model, update the plan to an updated plan to perform the one or more tasks; and

communicate, via the communication interface, information pertaining to the updated plan, wherein the information pertaining to the updated plan is communicated with at least one remaining drone of the set of assets.

2 . The drone of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

communicate, via the communication interface, information obtained during implementation of at least an element of the updated plan, wherein the information pertaining to the updated plan is communicated with at least one remaining asset of the set of assets.

3 . The drone of claim 1 , wherein determining that the at least one drone has experienced an asset failure comprises:

determining that the at least one drone has failed to communicate within a threshold period of time.

4 . The drone of claim 1 , wherein determining that the at least one drone of the set of assets has experienced the asset failure comprises:

determining that the at least one drone comprises a leader drone; and

in response to determining that the leader drone has experienced the asset failure, determining a new leader drone among the plurality of drones.

5 . The drone of claim 4 , wherein the new leader drone is determined based on a negotiation among one or more remaining drones of the plurality of drones.

6 . The drone of claim 4 , wherein the new leader drone is determined based at least in part on a predefined priority of potential leaders, and the at least one drone of the set of assets that has experienced the asset failure.

7 . The drone of claim 4 , wherein:

the one or more processors are further configured to:

determine to serve as the leader drone among one or more remaining drones of the plurality of drones; and

updating the plan to perform the one or more tasks comprises:

determining a state of performance of the one or more tasks; and

determining the updated plan for the one or more remaining drones to perform at least one remaining element associated with the one or more tasks.

8 . The drone of claim 7 , wherein the updated plan is determined based at least in part on: (i) one or more characteristics associated with the at least one remaining element, and (ii) one or more drone capabilities respectively associated with the one or more remaining drones.

9 . The drone of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

receive, from at least one remaining drone, information pertaining to an updated capability of the at least one remaining drone.

10 . The drone of claim 1 , wherein:

the at least one drone that has experienced the asset failure comprises a leader drone among at least a subset of the set of assets;

the one or more processors are further configured to:

determine a new leader drone, among one or more remaining drones, to follow; and

updating the plan to perform the one or more tasks comprises:

receiving, from the new leader drone, the updated plan pertaining to performing the one or more tasks.

11 . The drone of claim 10 , wherein:

the one or more processors are further configured to:

communicate, via the communication interface, information obtained during implementation of at least an element of the updated plan; and

communicating the information obtained during implementation of at least the element of the updated plan comprises:

sending, to the new leader drone, feedback information obtained in connection with implementing at least part of the updated plan.

12 . The drone of claim 11 , wherein the feedback information comprises information pertaining to one or more of a context of the drone, a state of a capability of the drone, a state of performance of the one or more tasks, and a result pertaining to performance of the one or more tasks.

13 . The drone of claim 1 , wherein:

the drone is a leader drone of at least a subset of the set of assets before the at least one drone experienced the asset failure;

determining the at least one drone of the set of assets has experienced the asset failure comprises determining that one or more follower drones have failed; and

updating the plan to perform the one or more tasks comprises re-assigning, to the at least one remaining drone, an element of the one or more tasks that was previously assigned to the at least one drone of the set of assets that has experienced the asset failure.

14 . The drone of claim 1 , wherein the asset failure comprises one or more of (i) a loss in ownership of the at least one drone during performance of the one or more tasks, and (ii) a loss of communication with the at least one drone for a threshold period of time.

15 . A method for dynamically implementing a plan by a drone, comprising:

receiving, via a communication interface, an indication that the drone is part of a set of assets, wherein the set of assets are tasked with performing one or more tasks in accordance with a plan, wherein the set of assets comprises a plurality of drones, and wherein the plan includes a topographical model of a geographic location for performing the one or more tasks;

in response to determining to partition the set of assets to perform at least a first task of the one or more tasks:

determining a first partition of the set of assets, wherein the first partitions comprises a first plurality of assets of the set of assets;

causing determination of a first partition leader for the first partition, wherein the first partition leader is a first asset of the first plurality of assets; and

communicating, via the communication interface and to the first partition leader, an instruction to implement at least the first task;

during performance of the one or more tasks by the set of assets, receiving feedback from at least one asset of the set of assets, wherein the feedback includes updated topographical information associated with the geographic location and obtained during the performance of the one or more tasks;

determining that at least one drone of the set of assets has experienced an asset failure;

in response to determining that the at least one drone has experienced the failure, determining that the asset failure impacts performance of the one or more tasks;

in response to determining that asset failure impacts the performance of the one or more tasks:

updating the topographical model of the geographic location to an updated topographical model of the geographic location based on the received updated topographical information; and

based at least in part on the updated topographical model, updating the plan to an updated plan to perform the one or more tasks; and

communicating, via the communication interface, information pertaining to the updated plan, wherein the information pertaining to the updated plan is communicated with at least one remaining drone of the set of assets.

16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

communicating, via the communication interface, information obtained during implementation of at least an element of the updated plan, wherein the information pertaining to the updated plan is communicated with at least one remaining asset of the set of assets.

17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein determining that the at least one drone has experienced an asset failure comprises:

determining that the at least one drone has failed to communicate within a threshold period of time.

18 . The method of claim 15 , wherein determining that the at least one drone of the set of assets has experienced the asset failure comprises:

determining that the at least one drone comprises a leader drone; and

in response to determining that the leader drone has experienced the asset failure, determining a new leader drone among the plurality of drones.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the new leader drone is determined based on a negotiation among one or more remaining drones of the plurality of drones.

20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the new leader drone is determined based at least in part on a predefined priority of leaders, and the at least one drone of the set of assets that has experienced the asset failure.

21 . A computer program product for implementing a plan by a drone, the computer program product being embodied in a non-transitory computer readable medium and comprising computer instructions for:

receiving, via a communication interface, an indication that the drone is part of a set of assets, wherein the set of assets are tasked with performing one or more tasks in accordance with a plan, wherein the set of assets comprises a plurality of drones, and wherein the plan includes a topographical model of a geographic location for performing the one or more tasks;

in response to determining to partition the set of assets to perform at least a first task of the one or more tasks:

determining a first partition of the set of assets, wherein the first partitions comprises a first plurality of assets of the set of assets;

causing determination of a first partition leader for the first partition, wherein the first partition leader is a first asset of the first plurality of assets; and

communicating, via the communication interface and to the first partition leader, an instruction to implement at least the first task;

during performance of the one or more tasks by the set of assets, receiving feedback from at least one asset of the set of assets, wherein the feedback includes updated topographical information associated with the geographic location and obtained during the performance of the one or more tasks;

determining that at least one drone of the set of assets has experienced an asset failure;

in response to determining that the at least one drone has experienced the failure, determining that the asset failure impacts performance of the one or more tasks;

in response to determining that asset failure impacts the performance of the one or more tasks:

updating the topographical model of the geographic location to an updated topographical model of the geographic location based on the received updated topographical information; and

based at least in part on the updated topographical model, updating the plan to an updated plan to perform the one or more tasks; and

communicating, via the communication interface, information pertaining to the updated plan, wherein the information pertaining to the updated plan is communicated with at least one remaining drone of the set of assets.
