Abstract

The invention is a biodegradable polymer composition comprising a particulate biodegradable polymer, particulate extracellular matrix (ECM) derived from a mammalian tissue source, a therapeutic component that abates growth of bacteria and a liquid medium. The biodegradable polymer can change quality upon contact with a physiological parameter, such as temperature or pH that causes, for example, a liquid polymer to gel or harden. The polymer composition is adapted to induce regeneration of tissue in vivo.

Claims (20)

1 . A composition for regenerating biological tissue, comprising:

a fluidized biodegradable polymer composition comprising a particulate biodegradable polymer, particulate extracellular matrix (ECM), a therapeutic component and a liquid medium,

said particulate biodegradable polymer comprising polylactide (PLA),

said therapeutic component comprising a therapeutic agent that abates growth of bacteria,

said liquid medium selected from the group consisting of H 2 O and saline,

said particulate ECM derived from a mammalian tissue source selected from the group consisting of small intestine tissue, placental tissue and dermal tissue,

said particulate ECM comprising a concentration in the range of 30 mg/ml to 50 mg/ml of said liquid medium,

said fluidized biodegradable polymer composition adapted to induce regeneration of new biological tissue when disposed proximate damaged biological tissue.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein said mammalian tissue source comprises a fetal mammalian tissue.

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein said dermal tissue comprises bovine dermal tissue.

4 . A composition for regenerating biological tissue, comprising:

a fluidized biodegradable polymer composition comprising a biodegradable polymer, particulate extracellular matrix (ECM), a therapeutic component and a liquid medium,

said biodegradable polymer comprising polyvinyl alcohol,

said therapeutic component comprising a therapeutic agent that abates growth of bacteria,

said liquid medium selected from the group consisting of H 2 O and saline,

said particulate ECM derived from a mammalian tissue source selected from the group consisting of small intestine tissue, placental tissue and dermal tissue,

said particulate ECM comprising a concentration in the range of 30 mg/ml to 50 mg/ml of said liquid medium,

said fluidized biodegradable polymer composition adapted to induce regeneration of new biological tissue when disposed proximate damaged biological tissue.

5 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein said mammalian tissue source comprises a fetal mammalian tissue.

6 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein said dermal tissue comprises bovine dermal tissue.
