Abstract

Devices and methods to reduce ear wax clogging of acoustic ports, hearing aid systems, and feedback reduction systems are provided. A conformal hearing aid includes a hearing aid body, where the hearing aid body houses a microphone and a receiver, where the microphone is positioned within the hearing aid body to measure acoustic signals from an ambient environment, and where the receiver is positioned within the hearing aid body to emit acoustic signals toward a tympanic membrane of a user; an expandable element, where the expandable element is operatively connected to the hearing aid body, and where the expandable element is configured to encompass a circumferential portion of the hearing aid body when expanded; and an inflation management system, where the inflation management system is configured to expand the expandable element when actuated.

Claims (45)

1. A audio device, comprising:

a housing;

a speaker, where the speaker is configured to emit acoustic energy from a first side of the housing;

a microphone, where the microphone is configured to measure an acoustic environment from a second side of the housing;

a circumferential tube that encircles the housing about a central axis, wherein the tube is positioned between the first and second sides;

a pump;

a medium transfer channel, where the tube is connected to the pump by the medium transfer channel;

a memory that stores instructions;

a processor that is configured to execute the instructions to perform operations, the operations comprising:

sending a signal to the pump to start transferring medium into the tube.

2. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:

sending a signal to the pump to stop transferring medium into the tube when a pressure in the tube reaches a target level.

3. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:

sending a signal to the pump to start transferring medium out of the tube.

4. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the tube is composed of a material of at least one of silicone, polystyrene, or rubber, or a combination thereof.

5. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving a microphone signal.

6. The device according to claim 5 , wherein the operations further comprise:

converting the microphone signal into an audio signal.

7. The device according to claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise:

sending the audio signal to the speaker.

8. The device according to claim 7 , wherein the medium is a fluid.

9. The device according to claim 7 , wherein the medium is a gas.

10. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the pump includes:

an electrolysis unit.

11. A method of audio device use comprising:

inserting an audio device into a user's ear;

transferring medium into a tube that wraps circumferentially about a housing of the audio device, where the tube lies between a first and second side of the housing;

measuring pressure in the tube; and

stopping the transferring of the medium into the tube if the pressure exceeds a threshold level or if a command is received that a comfort level is reached.

12. The method according to claim 11 further comprising:

removing a portion of the medium in the tube in response to a command to decrease the pressure in the tube.

13. The method according to claim 12 further comprising:

receiving a microphone signal from a microphone, wherein the microphone is within the housing.

14. The method according to claim 13 further comprising:

generating a modified microphone signal by modifying the microphone signal to amplify frequency portions of the microphone signal.

15. The method according to claim 14 further comprising:

sending the modified microphone signal to a speaker, where the speaker is within the housing.

16. The method according to claim 14 further comprising:

determining whether the audio device is sealed between the first and second sides of the housing.

17. A method of audio device use comprising:

inserting an audio device into a user's ear canal, wherein the audio device has an eartip, where the eartip is configured to be inflatable, wherein the eartip includes an expandable chamber;

detecting when the eartip is in the user's ear canal; and

inflating the chamber until a pressure in the chamber reaches a target pressure level at which point the inflating is stopped.

18. The method according to claim 17 , where the eartip is removable.
