Abstract

The present invention provides a battery module, which includes a plurality of battery cells with stacked each other which include a cell body configured to house an electrode assembly and electrode tabs drawn out from the cell body, respectively; and a housing unit configured to enclose at least a portion of an outer surface of the plurality of stacked battery cells to house the plurality of stacked battery cells, wherein the housing unit includes a heat sink unit having a refrigerant flow passage formed therein.

Claims (65)

1. A battery pack comprising:

a plurality of battery modules;

at least one module bus bar coupling the plurality of battery modules; and

a pack housing configured to house the plurality of battery modules,

wherein each of the plurality of battery modules includes:

a plurality of battery cells which include a cell body configured to house an electrode assembly and electrode tabs drawn out from the cell body, respectively, and are stacked in a front-rear direction; and

a housing unit configured to enclose at least a portion of an outer surface of the plurality of stacked battery cells to house the plurality of stacked battery cells,

wherein the housing unit includes a heat sink unit having a refrigerant flow passage formed therein,

wherein the heat sink unit includes:

a first heat sink member positioned below the plurality of battery cells, the first heat sink member being in contact on the plurality of battery cells; and

a second heat sink member positioned below the first flow passage, the second heat sink member coupled to the first heat sink member,

wherein the first heat sink member and the second heat sink member form the refrigerant flow passage, and

wherein refrigerant flow passage is extended rearward from a front end of the heat sink unit, turns around at a rear end of the heat sink unit and is extended forward from the rear end of the heat sink unit.

2. The battery pack according to claim 1 , wherein the module bus bar is configured to electrically connect two battery modules disposed adjacent to each other among the plurality of battery modules.

3. The battery pack according to claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of battery modules includes a heat sink where a refrigerant flows and the pack housing does not include a heat sink where a refrigerant flows.

4. The battery pack according to claim 1 , further comprising a battery management system (BMS) module configured to control each of the plurality of battery modules,

wherein each of the plurality of battery modules are controlled respectively through the BMS module.

5. The battery pack according to claim 1 , further comprising a power relay assembly (PRA) module located between the plurality of battery modules and a motor driving unit, and including relays and resistances.

6. The battery pack according to claim 1 , further comprising a manual service device (MSD) module configured to determine whether a voltage is applied to a pack high voltage terminal.

7. The battery pack according to claim 1 , further comprising a connection member electrically connecting each of the plurality of battery modules and a battery management system (BMS module,) a power relay assembly (PRA) module and a manual service device (MSD module), respectively.

8. The battery pack according to claim 1 ,

wherein each of the plurality of battery cells includes a case accommodating the electrode assembly.

9. The battery pack according to claim 8 , wherein each of the plurality of battery modules includes:

a housing sheath configured to enclose remaining outer surfaces of the plurality of battery cells and combined with the housing unit.

10. The battery pack according to claim 9 , wherein the heat sink unit includes:

an inflow port positioned at the front end of the heat sink unit; and

an outflow port positioned at the front end of the heat sink unit,

wherein the refrigerant flow passage starts at the inflow port and ends at the outflow port.

11. The battery pack according to claim 10 , wherein the heat sink unit serves as a bottom surface of the module housing and cools the plurality of battery cells.

12. The battery pack according to claim 10 , wherein the heat sink unit is integrally formed with the housing unit so as to enclose at least one outer surface of the plurality of battery cells.

13. The battery pack according to claim 10 , wherein the heat sink unit is located on at least one side where an electrode tab is not located.

14. The battery pack according to claim 10 , wherein the heat sink unit contacts directly with the plurality of battery cells to cool the plurality of battery cells.

15. The battery pack according to claim 10 , wherein each of the plurality of battery cells includes:

a sealing part formed on three sides of the four sides of the case; and,

a non-sealing part formed on one remaining side of the four sides of the case.

16. The battery pack according to claim 15 , wherein the heat sink unit is located on a side of the non-sealing part of the plurality of battery cells.

17. A battery pack comprising:

a plurality of battery modules;

at least one module bus bar coupling the plurality of battery modules; and

a pack housing configured to house the plurality of battery modules,

wherein each of the plurality of battery modules includes:

a plurality of battery cells which include a cell body configured to house an electrode assembly and electrode tabs drawn out from the cell body, respectively, and are stacked in a front-rear direction; and

a housing unit configured to enclose at least a portion of an outer surface of the plurality of stacked battery cells to house the plurality of stacked battery cells,

wherein the housing unit includes a heat sink unit having a refrigerant flow passage formed therein,

wherein the heat sink unit includes:

a first heat sink member positioned below the plurality of battery cells, the first heat sink member being in contact on the plurality of battery cells; and

a second heat sink member positioned below the first flow passage, the second heat sink member coupled to the first heat sink member,

wherein the first heat sink member and the second heat sink member form the refrigerant flow passage,

wherein the first heat sink member includes:

a first heat sink plate being below the plurality of battery cells, the first heat sink plate being in contact on the plurality of battery cells;

a first central protruding portion protruding downward from the first heat sink plate, the first central protruding portion elongated in the front-rear direction; and

a first inflow protruding portion and a first outflow protruding portion which are protruding downward from the first heat sink plate and elongated in the front-rear direction, wherein the first central protruding portion is between the first inflow protruding portion and the first outflow protruding portion,

wherein the second heat sink member includes:

a second heat sink plate positioned below the first heat sink plate;

a second central protruding portion protruding upward from the second heat sink plate, the second central protruding portion elongated in the front-rear direction, the second central protruding portion being in contact on the first central protruding portion; and

a second inflow protruding portion and a second outflow protruding portion which are protruding upward from the second heat sink plate and elongated in the front-rear direction, wherein the second central protruding portion is between the second inflow protruding portion and the second outflow protruding portion,

wherein the first inflow protruding portion and the second inflow protruding portion are in contact on each other,

wherein the first outflow protruding portion and the second outflow protruding portion are in contact on each other.

18. The battery pack according to claim 17 , wherein the heat sink unit further includes:

an inflow port communicated with an end of the refrigerant flow passage; and

an outflow port communicated with another end of the refrigerant flow passage.

19. The battery pack according to claim 18 , wherein the refrigerant flow passage includes:

an inflow passage connected with the inflow port; and

an outflow passage connected with the outflow port,

wherein the first central protruding portion and the second central protruding portion are positioned between the inflow passage and the outflow passage.
