Abstract

Methods, systems, and storage media for eye tracking in artificial reality (e.g., virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, etc.) headsets are disclosed. Exemplary implementations may: generate a simulated environment for a user through an artificial reality headset; track an eye of the user through an eye sensor responsive to the artificial reality headset being worn by the user; detect a physical aspect of the eye through the eye sensor indicative of an eye malady; and adjust a display setting of the artificial reality headset based at least in part on the detected physical aspect of the eye.

Claims (40)

1 . A computer-implemented method for detecting physical aspects of eyes, comprising:

generating a simulated environment for a user through an artificial reality headset, wherein the artificial reality headset is configured to be worn by the user;

tracking an eye of the user through an eye sensor responsive to the artificial reality headset being worn by the user, the eye sensor being disposed within the artificial reality headset;

detecting a physical aspect of the eye through the eye sensor indicative of an eye malady; and

adjusting a display setting of the artificial reality headset based at least in part on the detected physical aspect of the eye.

2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the eye sensor comprises active illumination as a component to aid the eye sensor.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the physical aspect of the eye comprises at least one of reflectivity, changes in reflectivity, moisture level, squinting, blinking rate, redness, tiredness/fatigue, cornea shape, lens cloudiness, or pupil dilation.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the display setting comprises changing a focal plane of a display of the simulated environment.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein the focal plane is changed to an infinite distance.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the display setting comprises changing a color setting of the simulated environment.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the color setting is changed to green light.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

alerting the user to potential eye health problems based on the detecting of the physical aspect of the eye.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the potential eye health problems comprise at least one of cataracts, astigmatism, refractive errors, macular degeneration, retinopathy, glaucoma, amblyopia, or strabismus.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting a base state of the eye of the user; and

comparing the base state with the detected physical aspect to determine whether to adjust the display setting.

11 . A system configured for detecting physical aspects of eyes, the system comprising:

one or more hardware processors configured by machine-readable instructions to:

generate a simulated environment for a user through an artificial reality headset, wherein the artificial reality headset is configured to be worn by the user;

track an eye of the user through an eye sensor responsive to the artificial reality headset being worn by the user, the eye sensor being disposed within the artificial reality headset, the eye sensor comprising infrared lights;

detect a physical aspect of the eye through the eye sensor indicative of an eye malady; and

adjust a display setting of the artificial reality headset based at least in part on the detected physical aspect of the eye.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein adjusting the display setting comprises changing a focal plane of a display of the simulated environment.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the focal plane is changed to an infinite distance.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein adjusting the display setting comprises changing a color setting of the simulated environment.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the color setting is changed to green light.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more hardware processors are further configured by machine-readable instructions to:

alert the user to potential eye health problems based on the detecting of the physical aspect of the eye; and

wherein the potential eye health problems comprise at least one of cataracts, astigmatism, refractive errors, macular degeneration, retinopathy, glaucoma, amblyopia, or strabismus.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more hardware processors are further configured by machine-readable instructions to:

detect a base state of the eye of the user; and

compare the base state with the detected physical aspect to determine whether to adjust the display setting.

18 . A non-transient computer-readable storage medium having instructions embodied thereon, the instructions being executable by one or more processors to perform a method for detecting physical aspects of eyes, the method comprising:

generating a simulated environment for a user through an artificial reality headset, wherein the artificial reality headset is configured to be worn by the user;

tracking an eye of the user through an eye sensor responsive to the artificial reality headset being worn by the user, the eye sensor being disposed within the artificial reality headset, the eye sensor comprising active illumination as a component to aid the eye sensor;

detecting a physical aspect of the eye through the eye sensor indicative of an eye malady, the physical aspect of the eye comprising at least one of reflectivity, changes in reflectivity, moisture level, squinting, blinking rate, redness, tiredness/fatigue, cornea shape, lens cloudiness, or pupil dilation; and

adjusting a display setting of the artificial reality headset based at least in part on the detected physical aspect of the eye.

19 . The non-transient computer-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein adjusting the display setting comprises changing a focal plane of a display of the simulated environment.

20 . The non-transient computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the focal plane is changed to an infinite distance.
