Abstract

The present disclosure is related to a showerhead including a housing, a turbine, and a shutter. The housing defines a fluid inlet and a chamber in fluid communication with the fluid inlet. The chamber includes a plurality of engagement teeth and defines outlets for a first nozzle bank and a second nozzle bank. The turbine is received in the chamber. The shutter is received in the chamber and rotatably coupled to the turbine such that rotation of the turbine causes movement of the shutter. The shutter includes a plurality of shutter teeth positioned around a perimeter of the shutter. Engagement of the shutter teeth and the engagement teeth act to restrict the shutter from rotating while allowing the shutter to move across the chamber in a sliding motion.

Claims (26)

1. A showerhead comprising:

a housing defining a fluid inlet and a chamber in fluid communication with the fluid inlet, the chamber including a plurality of engagement teeth and defining outlets for a first nozzle bank and a second nozzle bank;

a turbine received in the chamber; and

a shutter received in the chamber and rotatably coupled to the turbine such that rotation of the turbine causes movement of the shutter, the shutter including a plurality of shutter teeth positioned around a perimeter of the shutter, wherein engagement of the shutter teeth and the engagement teeth act to restrict the shutter from rotating while allowing the shutter to move across the chamber in a sliding motion.

2. The showerhead of claim 1 , wherein the shutter comprises a round disc including a main body and the shutter teeth extend radially from the main body.

3. The showerhead of claim 1 , wherein the shutter teeth are dimensioned to substantially match or be larger than the outlets in the chamber.

4. The showerhead of claim 3 , wherein a diameter of the shutter teeth is selected to substantially match or be larger than the outlets in the chamber.

5. The showerhead of claim 1 , wherein during movement of the shutter, the shutter teeth selectively cover and uncover the outlets for the first nozzle bank and the second nozzle bank.

6. The showerhead of claim 1 , wherein the shutter is movable between a first position in which shutter teeth on a first side of the shutter cover the outlets for the first nozzle bank and a second position in which shutter teeth on a second side of the shutter opposite the first side cover the outlets for the second nozzle bank.

7. The showerhead of claim 6 , wherein when the shutter is in the first position the outlets for the second nozzle bank are uncovered between the shutter teeth on the second side of the shutter and the engagement teeth, and when the shutter is in the second position the outlets for the first nozzle bank are uncovered between the shutter teeth on the first side of the shutter and the engagement teeth.

8. The showerhead of claim 1 , further comprising a cam coupled to the turbine, wherein the shutter is moved by the turbine turning the cam.

9. The showerhead of claim 1 , wherein the shutter is restricted to a single translation degree by the shutter teeth and the engagement teeth.

10. The showerhead of claim 1 , wherein in operation the shutter moves across one set of nozzles while exposing the opposite set of nozzles in a repetitive motion.

11. A showerhead comprising:

a housing defining a fluid inlet and a chamber in fluid communication with the fluid inlet, the chamber including a plurality of engagement teeth and defining outlets for a first nozzle bank and a second nozzle bank;

a turbine received in the chamber; and

a shutter received in the chamber and rotatably coupled to the turbine such that rotation of the turbine causes movement of the shutter, the shutter including a plurality of shutter teeth positioned around a perimeter of the shutter, wherein engagement of the shutter teeth and the engagement teeth cause the shutter to oscillate back and forth across the chamber in a sliding motion.

12. The showerhead of claim 11 , wherein the shutter comprises a round disc including a main body and the shutter teeth extend radially from the main body.

13. The showerhead of claim 11 , wherein the shutter teeth are dimensioned to substantially match or be larger than the outlets in the chamber.

14. The showerhead of claim 13 , wherein a diameter of the shutter teeth is selected to substantially match or be larger than the outlets in the chamber.

15. The showerhead of claim 11 , further comprising a cam coupled to the turbine, wherein the shutter is moved by the turbine turning the cam.

16. The showerhead of claim 11 , wherein the shutter is restricted to a single translation degree by the shutter teeth in operation with the engagement teeth in the chamber.

17. The showerhead of claim 11 , wherein in operation the shutter moves across one set of nozzles while exposing the opposite set of nozzles in a repetitive motion.

18. The showerhead of claim 11 , wherein during movement of the shutter, the shutter teeth selectively cover and uncover the outlets for the first nozzle bank and the second nozzle bank.

19. The showerhead of claim 11 , wherein the shutter is movable between a first position in which shutter teeth on a first side of the shutter cover the outlets for the first nozzle bank and a second position in which shutter teeth on a second side of the shutter opposite the first side cover the outlets for the second nozzle bank.

20. The showerhead of claim 19 , wherein when the shutter is in the first position the outlets for the second nozzle bank are uncovered between the shutter teeth on the second side of the shutter and the engagement teeth, and when the shutter is in the second position the outlets for the first nozzle bank are uncovered between the shutter teeth on the first side of the shutter and the engagement teeth.
