Abstract

Briefly, methods and/or apparatuses for implicit traffic engineering, such as for the Internet, are described.

Claims (28)

1 .- 33 . (canceled)

34 . A method of controlling a network that includes two or more logical broadcast domains, the method comprising:

generating, via a controller and without human intervention, a first logical broadcast domain configuration of one of the two or more logical broadcast domains; and

transmitting, via the controller and without human intervention, the first logical broadcast domain configuration to a second logical broadcast domain of the two or more logical broadcast domains, the controller to communicate with the two or more logical broadcast domains utilizing a unified networking policy.

35 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:

initiating virus scanning of files located within the two or more logical broadcast domains in accordance with the unified networking policy.

36 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:

initiating authentication of users operating at least one of the two or more logical broadcast domains in accordance with the unified networking policy.

37 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:

initiating filtering of uniform resource locators (URLs) of resources located within the two or more logical broadcast domains in accordance with the unified networking policy.

38 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:

initiating deep packet inspection of data packets transmitted from the two or more logical broadcast domains in accordance with the unified networking policy.

39 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:

initiating encryption of files transmitted from the two or more logical broadcast domains in accordance with the unified networking policy.

40 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:

initiating implementation of a firewall within the two or more logical broadcast domains in accordance with the unified networking policy.

41 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:

initiating encapsulation of one or more selected signal packets for transmission to a first logical broadcast domain of the two or more logical broadcast domains.

42 . the method of claim 41 , further comprising:

initiating termination of encapsulation of the one or more selected signal packets; and

initiating re-encapsulation of the one or more selected signal packets to permit transmission via a private network of the second logical broadcast domain of the two or more logical broadcast domains.

43 . A controller for facilitating communications among a network comprising two or more logical broadcast domains, the controller comprising at least one processor coupled to at least one memory device to:

generate, without human intervention, a first logical broadcast domain configuration of one of the two or more logical broadcast domains; and

transmit, without human intervention, the first logical broadcast domain configuration to a second logical broadcast domain of the two or more logical broadcast domains, the controller to communicate with the two or more logical broadcast domains utilizing a unified networking policy.

44 . The controller of claim 43 , wherein the at least one processor coupled to the at least one memory device are additionally to:

perform virus scanning of files located within the two or more logical broadcast domains in accordance with the unified networking policy.

45 . The controller of claim 43 , wherein the at least one processor coupled to the at least one memory device are additionally to:

authenticate users operating at least one of the two or more logical broadcast domains in accordance with the unified networking policy.
