Abstract

Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are described for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), comprising a memory, and a processor to execute instructions from the memory, wherein the processor is configured to access a non-3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Access Network (AN), establish a link with a Non-3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF) via the non-3GPP AN, request information from the N3IWF about network slicing capabilities of a 3GPP Radio Access Network (RAN), receive information from the N3IWF about network slicing capabilities of the 3GPP RAN, and determine whether to register with the 3GPP RAN based upon the network slicing capabilities of the 3GPP RAN. Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are described for sending information about network slicing capabilities of a 3GPP RAN to a N3IWF, establishing a link between a WTRU operating on a non-3GPP AN and the N3IWF via the non-3GPP AN, and sending information from the N3IWF to the WTRU about network slicing capabilities of the 3GPP RAN.

Claims (31)

1. A method implemented by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

receiving one or more access stratum (AS) messages from a first network node, wherein the one or more AS messages comprise network slice information for one or more other network nodes;

determining that a second network node supports at least one network slice based on network slice information associated with the second network node received in the one or more AS messages from the first network node; and

accessing the second network node to utilize a service associated with the at least one network slice based on the network slice information associated with the second network node.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more AS messages comprise one or more system information messages.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more AS messages comprise one or more radio resource control (RRC) messages.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network slice information associated with the second network node comprises Single Network Slice Selection Assistance information (S-NSSAI) about one or more available slices for the second network node.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein triggering the one or more AS messages is based on one or more of the WTRU's location, battery level, mobility, or traffic level.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first network node comprises a 3GPP radio access network (RAN) node and the second network node comprises a non-3GPP RAN node.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network slice information associated with the second network node comprises a list of network slices available to the WTRU.

8. A node in a second access network, comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor to execute instructions from the memory, wherein the at least one processor is configured to:

receive one or more first messages, via a first access network, by the node in the second access network, wherein the one or more first messages indicate a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) in the first access network requests information about a network slicing capability of the second access network;

send one or more second messages, via the first access network, by the node in the second access network, wherein the one or more second messages indicate the network slicing capability of the second access network; and

receive one or more third messages to register with the second access network based upon the network slicing capability of the second access network.

9. The node of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to send the one or more second messages indicating the network slicing capability of the second access network before the WTRU has registered with the second access network.

10. The node of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to advertise, through the first access network, the one or more second messages indicating the network slicing capability of the second access network.

11. The node of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to send the one or more second messages indicating the network slicing capability of the second access network via one or more of an IPsec tunnel, or Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) encapsulated information.

12. The node of claim 8 , wherein the information about a network slicing capability of the second access network includes Single Network Slice Selection Assistance information (S-NSSAI) about one or more available slices in the second access network.

13. The node of claim 12 , wherein one or more of the WTRU's location, battery level, mobility, connectivity to the second access network, or request triggers sending of the S-NSSAI.

14. The node of claim 8 , wherein the second access network is a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Radio Access Network (RAN).

15. The node of claim 8 , wherein the first access network is a non-3GPP Access Network (AN).

16. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising a processor and memory, the processor and memory configured to:

receive one or more access stratum (AS) messages from a first network node, the one or more AS messages comprising network slice information for one or more other network nodes;

determine that a second network node supports at least one network slice based on network slice information associated with the second network node received in the one or more AS messages from the first network node; and

access the second network node to utilize a service associated with the at least one network slice based on the network slice information associated with the second network node.

17. The WTRU of claim 16 , wherein the one or more AS messages comprise one or more system information messages.

18. The WTRU of claim 16 , wherein the one or more AS messages comprise one or more radio resource control (RRC) messages.

19. The WTRU of claim 16 , wherein the first network node comprises a 3GPP radio access network (RAN) node and the second network node comprises a non-3GPP RAN node.

20. The WTRU of claim 16 , wherein the network slice information associated with the second network node comprises a list of network slices available to the WTRU.
